"Hello, Gwen, this is Henry. What is it?"
Gwen's voice sounded a little anxious over the phone. "Henry, where are you? I went to the hospital to see Skye, but the nurses said you'd already checked out.
"Then I went to East 49th Street, but no one was at Kate's house. I only heard Kitty possibly roaring about being hungry from inside. Where exactly did you go?"
Apparently, she had some unpleasant misunderstandings, though she did not voice them. A church, a funeral home...
Henry would not joke about something like this. He said bluntly, "We're on the twelfth floor in the Tribeca District. With a friend's help, Skye has fully recovered.
"How about this? Don't go anywhere for now. I'll drive back and pick you and Kitty up, then bring you here. I'll also grab some ingredients and prepare dinner here in Tribeca.
"I'll invite those friends of mine to eat with us too, as thanks for their help with Skye. You should come too. Besides helping me prepare the food, you can celebrate Skye's recovery with us."
Gwen sounded uncertain. "Your friends... would it be okay for me to come?"
"You know them too. Thena, Gilgamesh, and Ajak, who came over from South Dakota. They also brought a new friend, Makkari."
Of the four, Gwen had already met three. She also frequently visited Thena, the fit older sister, to learn workout techniques from her. That eased much of Gwen's reluctance. "All right. When will you get here?"
