Henry landed in front of the academy gates with Wanda in his arms, then set the beauty down.
He had not flown straight into the grounds because he had seen no one waiting inside, nor anything resembling a designated landing area. Entering through the gates seemed the safest and most polite choice.
At the gates, Wanda casually raised her right hand. With a flick of her fingers, the invitation Henry had seen appeared between them. Another flick sent it gliding forward.
The moment the strange letter touched the academy gates, the chained iron gates swung open. They must not have been oiled in ages, judging by the piercing squeal.
Once the gates were fully open, Wanda lightly gathered her skirt and glanced back. "Let's go. They should be coming out to meet us." "Shouldn't we wait for them at the gate?" Henry asked as he followed.
"Only someone of very high standing can do that. I don't want them to dislike me, so I'll walk a little." Wanda smiled over her shoulder. "All right." Knowing nothing of the magical world's etiquette, the Kryptonian followed her lead.
The academy grounds did not look particularly large. Perhaps the playing fields lay around the edges; within the campus stood stone, castle-like buildings of varying heights. Gothic gargoyles and statues of angels covered their outer walls.
The stained glass, pieced together into geometric patterns, gave the place a strong religious air and a distinctly medieval feel.
Henry could not help wondering. Europe's Middle Ages spanned the fifth to the fifteenth century, while the United States had only a little over two hundred years of history. Where had buildings in a style more than five hundred years old come from?
Had people from the magical world discovered and colonized the Americas before the Age of
