Assigning tasks
Near a military base, the X-Men's Blackbird Jet landed at a building, and the Animal Squad was unloading their equipment. Spider-Man was also there to help, was puzzled. "Why aren't we working with the military?"
"Because their mission is different from ours. And if we operate together, who will be in command? Do you think the U.S. military will follow your orders?" Green Arrow Duck replied in an electronic voice using an external amplifier.
"Can't we cooperate? Just like we have the X-Men."
"Because the military is the least flexible and adaptable organization in the world. Spider-Man." The speaker was Professor X, who had stepped out of the rear hatch of the Blackbird Jet and was sitting in a wheelchair.
The wise elder continued, "Without authorization, the U.S. military can only make limited adjustments within the scope of their mission. I think cooperating with us was definitely not part of this army's initial plans."
"So, we don't work together. They do their thing, and we do ours?" the Spider-Man, who had almost always worked alone, asked, puzzled.
"We have results, which we can provide to them, however they want to use them. But staying together, believe me, would be a disaster. In the end, we can't do anything without their superiors' approval."
Professor X might not be as prejudiced against the U.S. military as Green Arrow Duck, but he'd seen too much and therefore lacked confidence in U.S. military. "Alright," Spider-Man said, seemingly convinced, his mood slightly downcast. "So what do we do now?"
Seeing Cyclops and other new generation members and veteran X-Men members come before him, Professor X assigned tasks without hesitation.
"Scott, you and Ororo will each lead a team to different directions to help ordinary people. I can sense that many people in this city are in a state of panic and urgently need help."
"Jin, I'd like to ask you to stay. Assisting with the work here and developing Antidote for the infectious disease is the most important thing. If necessary, like if Scott and his team bring back rescued people, we'll also need quarantine measures and responsible personnel."
"I'll stay on the combat platform in the jet, so everyone can contact me if anything happens. Is that arrangement okay, Mr. Duck?" The last question was naturally directed at Green Arrow Duck was moving equipment nearby. "Of course, I won't interfere with the X-Men's operations; that's what we agreed on from the beginning." "Wait a minute, what about me?" Spider-Man, who hadn't been assigned a role, jumped in and asked.
"I heard Mr. Duck summoned you to be in charge of developing the Antidote," Professor X replied to Spider-Man.
At this point, everyone's attention turned to Green Arrow Duck. "It's a bit much to ask you to install equipment you're not familiar with. What If...? 're really that bored, how about going out and catching a few live samples? Spider-Man, I'll install the equipment."
Spider-Man asked curiously, "Since you knew we needed samples, why did you kill all those Monster before?" Because in front of the U.S. military, without proper communication, if you held back and kept a few Monster tied up, what do you think the U.S. military would think? Would they suspect we were in cahoots? Or something worse?
Green Arrow Duck explained, "I would never admit that I forgot to leave..."
Spider-Man seemed to accept this explanation. "Okay, how many do you think we need, and what kind?"
Green Arrow Duck said coldly, "It's up to you, Spider-Man. Just remember one thing: don't get bitten or scratched by those Monster. Because that will greatly increase the chance of infection."
"If that happens, I'll kindly use incendiary bombs to clean up the mess for you, ensuring that not even your ashes are left to harm other living people."
Whether it was a joke or a threat, Spider-Man was genuinely startled. "Dude, is it really that serious? Incendiary bombs are controlled munitions, how could you possibly have one?"
"Do you think the only troublesome thing about me is the incendiary bombs?"
"Well... but that's no reason to use incendiary bombs against humans. Maybe they can still be saved." The Little Bug thought for a moment, strengthening its own belief. "There's definitely hope, right?"
"You can set that as a goal. But that would put us on a tight timeframe. You'd better act quickly, Spider-Man." Green Arrow Duck, unusually, didn't dampen his enthusiasm, even though he knew that people infected with the virus usually couldn't be saved. Unless they could adapt or had antibodies, once they became Zombies, there was no turning back. But! Perhaps things would be different in the Marvel Universe. Green Arrow Duck couldn't guarantee that nothing would be amiss. "And what about us?" the Ursa Major Mecha emitted an external electronic voice, inquiring about its plans.
After thinking for a moment, Green Arrow Duck also used an external broadcast to assign tasks. "Bonnie has electronic warfare specializations, which can help the X-Men enhance their communication capabilities."
"I don't know if you've noticed, but cell phone signals are practically nonexistent here. So Bonnie can be useful if we want to maintain contact with the teams sent out. Also, we need someone to stay here and defend."
"The rest of you, please clear out the Monster inside this building first. This can serve as our base; I don't want any Monster suddenly popping out of the stairwell and catching us off guard."
"If circumstances permit, please capture those Monster alive, send them to the sky, and manage them in a centralized area. They can serve as research samples. If we just waste them, we'll have to put in the effort to capture Monster samples ourselves."
"Once the clearing operation is complete, as long as there are people left to defend this place, you can do whatever you want. Of course, communications must be kept on in case we can't reach someone in case of emergencies. Is this arrangement acceptable?"
Everyone, including the Eternals and the Spartan, nodded in agreement. "Okay."
"Then everyone, please proceed according to the previously assigned tasks," Professor X said.
Spider-Man jumped off the edge of the sky first. It was one of his old tricks, and nobody was worried about him.
Cyclops took several new-generation X-Men with him first, including Colossus was fully metalized.
Storm also instructed those who were going to follow her to prepare, but she didn't immediately take them with her. Instead, she decided to follow Green Arrow Duck's advice and enhance the communication system through Bonnie Mech.
Jean Grey then worked with Green Arrow Duck to install the equipment he brought. There were many things here, things that even the X-Men base, with its abundance of advanced technology, didn't have. Fortunately, the purpose of most of the items could be guessed from their appearance, preventing the users from guessing blindly.
Despite Jean Grey's reluctance to take on this job, she was acutely aware of the severity of the infectious disease raging in the city. Personal likes and dislikes were temporarily set aside; they weren't a big deal.
