Wakanda's representative to the United Nations
Upon returning to New York, Audrey Hepburn had Henry connect with United Nations Children's Fund to prepare for restarting her work of visiting and providing aid to countries around the world.
Henry, acting as her all-around assistant, followed closely behind Ms. Hepburn, carrying a briefcase and dressed in a sharp suit. They were being led by staff from the UNICEF to meet with the people of Wakanda.
A short while later, they arrived at a small conference room. The Wakanda representatives all stood up politely to greet the ladies as they entered.
The United Nations personnel simultaneously introduced them to each other, "Representative Jabari, this is Ms. Audrey Hepburn. Madam, this is Mr. Jabari, Wakanda's representative to the United Nations."
The two men shook hands politely, exchanged greetings, and said, "Madam, it is a great honor to meet you. On behalf of King T'Chaka, I extend my greetings to you."
"Representative Jabari, it is a pleasure to meet you. Please convey my regards to your King."
Please have a seat.
"Please."
After everyone was seated, Ms. Hepburn got straight to the point. "Representative Jabari, I would like to ask about your application to visit your country. Has there been any response from your country yet?"
"I'm sorry, madam. The King understands that it is inconvenient to receive your visit. The country's facilities are inadequate and cannot accommodate United Nations officials and distinguished guests like yourself."
"Isn't that precisely why we need to go and see if your country needs any help?" Audrey Hepburn didn't give up easily and continued to persuade her.
The Wakanda representative, without getting angry or annoyed, smiled and replied, "Madam, I hope you don't equate poverty with needing help. I don't deny that, by Western standards, Wakanda is a poor and backward agricultural country."
"With a GDP per capita of less than 100, it's impossible for everyone to own a Chanel or LV bag. But that doesn't mean we necessarily need international aid. The Africa continent, like a mother, nourishes all the people living on it."
"Those countries suffering from famine are not actually lacking in food sources, but rather suffering from the ravages of war. I can proudly say that Wakanda has done a good job of protecting its people, keeping them away from the scourge of war."
"Wakanda's children not only have enough to eat, but in terms of healthcare, we may not be able to afford Johnson & Johnson & Johnson or Novartis drugs, but we have our own medical technology. Even in education, we can send qualified students to the UK and the US every year."
"Therefore, I believe that what Wakanda calls poverty is only poverty as perceived by the Western world. But we consider ourselves to be living a very comfortable life and do not need aid from other countries, or even the United Nations."
"Please, madam, use your limited resources on those who need them more, whether in Asia or the the Americas."
There are also children suffering from hunger. They deserve your care, madam.
Audrey Hepburn crossed her arms and said, "I'm sorry. What If...? my words have offended you,"
Please accept my apology. Perhaps, as you said, I should have focused my attention on those who need help more.
"It is a great pity that we cannot see the situation in Wakanda in person, nor can we personally extend our greetings to your King. We hope that we will have the opportunity to visit your country in the future."
"Hopefully it will happen," Representative Jabari said with a smile, revealing a row of white teeth that contrasted sharply with his skin tone.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, the two got up to say goodbye. It was a rare occasion for Ms. Hepburn to visit the United Nations, and she had a busy schedule to attend to.
On the way to the next location, the lady asked Henry, who was following behind her, "Child, do you think what that ambassador said is true? Is it like the North Korea, where the country is clearly in chaos, yet everyone is still singing praises?"
Despite the prestigious titles of the United Nations and Audrey Hepburn, there are still places in this world where they encounter setbacks.
However, even United Nations Children's Fund staff advised against going to that area in the North Korea. The lady didn't seem particularly determined to go either.
Regarding today's problem, Henry thought for a moment and then said, "Perhaps they really don't need any help."
Instead of putting on a show like the North Korea.
Why would you think that?
Henry said, "It's the feeling they give off. They're not like people from authoritarian countries who always have to maintain a superior attitude in every word and action, as if they're afraid of being looked down upon."
"They are not afraid to use language that mocks their own country, even in informal and private settings. But they dare to speak like that either because they have the right to do so, or because what they say is the truth."
"Whether it's the case or not, it means he comes from a place where he won't get into trouble for saying the wrong thing. So even though his words were a bit out of line, unlike those of a qualified diplomatic envoy."
"But considering he was communicating with you, Boss, in a closed setting, it's not so surprising. In fact..."
"Even what?" Audrey Hepburn asked. "Even from their words, you can sense a condescending contempt, criticizing the Western values they speak of. I'm a little confused about where this attitude comes from."
Audrey Hepburn pondered it carefully, and realized that the previous conversation did indeed have that feeling.
This is different from the officials who often visit some underdeveloped countries and seem all bark and no bite. This United Nations representative from Wakanda has a strange confidence that makes people unconsciously believe his words.
"So, we're really not going?" Ms. Hepburn asked.
"What If...? you want my advice, then don't go. Since the other party feels they don't need help..."
"If we insist on getting involved, we'll only end up pleasing neither side. The United Nations is a hassle, and the Wakanda people aren't happy either," Henry said frankly.
"Do you think there are any other suitable locations? I remember in the report you gave me before, it seems like it's been a while since we've been to Central America and South America."
Henry said reservedly, "Boss, let's discuss this part after we get to the UNICEF."
Check if the working group has compiled any relevant information and offer any other suggestions.
"Hmm, that's fine too." She had barely finished speaking when Ms. Hepburn suddenly stopped, slightly bending over and leaning against the wall.
Henry quickly stepped forward and asked, "Boss, are you alright?"
"It's nothing. I just had a sudden abdominal cramp, but it's gone now." Ms. Hepburn straightened up and was about to continue walking.
Standing to the side, Henry, unsure whether he should offer his hand for support, said helplessly, "Actually, I feel that you haven't had enough rest during this period. It seems that some of the ailments you've accumulated over the years have all come out during this break."
"How about we take a break for a while? Even though we have the title of Goodwill Ambassador, the UNICEF staff are happy to relax as long as we don't make any demands. Unlike you, who now treats this job as your main job, running around every day."
"Why so much talk?" the woman complained.
