Discharge
Paul Mellon and Rachel Lambert's private jet is a Gulfstream private jet.
The interior features only six seats, all ergonomically designed and adjustable, with each chair accompanied by a small side table. The decor prioritizes comfort over luxury.
However, the interior of the aircraft was modified to transport Audrey Hepburn as a patient. The main modifications involved removing two sets of tables and chairs, replacing them with a hospital bed, and setting up space for monitoring equipment.
This isn't like a regular room where you can just make room. Airplanes take off and land. For safety during takeoff and landing, and to deal with potential turbulence in the air, everything has to be secured.
But this wasn't a big problem for Gulfstream's engineers. As a manufacturer of high-end private jets, they'd encountered all sorts of customers.
As soon as a request is made, they immediately come up with a corresponding solution. Henry then contacts the team at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and through coordination between the two sides, a modification plan that meets Ms. Hepburn's needs can be developed.
Since it was only a temporary modification and did not change the overall layout, coupled with the Mellon ' urgent request, the modification was completed quite quickly, in just two weeks.
If we had the materials and a renovation plan, Henry could probably finish it in less than a day by himself.
However, this is the same as the warranty terms of most manufacturers, which means that if you want to have no worries and receive complete service and protection in the future, you can only rely on the original company.
If someone makes changes without authorization, many services and coverages will be canceled. In the event of a malfunction or accident, the insurance company may refuse to pay claims for violating the company's warranty terms.
In other words, Ms. Hepburn needs to stay at the medical center to monitor her post-operative recovery. She just needs to return to Switzerland before Christmas, so there's no need to force the aircraft modification to be completed at an accelerated pace.
During this time, apart from Robert Wolders staying by the lady's side to take good care of her, their youngest son Luca, returned to Europe to continue his studies.
The eldest son, Sean, also returned to work.
Givenchy was probably the busiest, juggling his own work and Hepburn Hepburn's affairs.
Fortunately, Henry helped out; most of the communication and document delivery work was handled by this junior assistant. He only flew to the United States to handle matters when Givenchy insisted on his personal presence.
Henry, needless to say, was just a gofer.
However, this kind of work should not be underestimated. Just like Creative Arts Agency (CAA), one of the largest talent agencies in Hollywood, many of the future big agents started from the lowest level of the company, the mailroom.
Because being in such a place allows you to quickly learn what's going on and where to go. Whether you can follow this path and build your own network depends on your individual abilities.
Similarly, even though Henry was just running errands, what kind of people did he interact with? He even met with the Mellon family, a reclusive wealthy family. Would Givenchy really send someone to run errands for ordinary people?
However, each errand run doesn't guarantee a meeting with the top-level personnel, and these people won't easily establish a relationship with a washed-up celebrity's assistant.
But these people also have their own subordinates. Those assistants and clerks are the ones Henry can easily deal with.
Although a good relationship may not be established in just one or two meetings, at least Henry learned where to turn for help when he encounters problems.
This wasn't the era after the internet became widespread, where you could ask questions through search engines and solve most problems. This was a time when ordinary people, even when offering incense to Buddha, might not know where to find the incense burner.
Although I don't know if these connections will come in handy in the future, the matter concerning Ms. Hepburn still needs to be handled, so I'll keep these materials for now. Who knows, they might come in handy someday?
After all that running around, it was finally time to leave Los Angeles.
In fact, if an average young person had undergone that level of surgery, they would probably be able to run and jump around again after those extra three weeks at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
However, Ms. Hepburn was an elderly woman who had suffered from war in her childhood, leaving her with lingering health problems, so her recovery after surgery was not ideal.
Even so, the doctors at the medical center did not require the woman to stay for follow-up care. In their experience, for people of a certain age, maintaining a cheerful mood is more important than meticulous medical services.
Simply put, appeasing the elderly is like appeasing a child; try to accommodate their wishes as much as possible. If they want to go back to their home in Switzerland, then go back. Staying in the medical center, with a constantly worried face, will drive you crazy even if you're not sick.
So on the appointed date, everyone prepared to set off.
Henry rented a van for medical care purposes because Ms. Audrey Hepburn was now able to move around briefly and no longer needed to stay in bed or in a wheelchair.
The specially modified vans also ensure that women have a fairly comfortable riding space.
This is Los Angeles, the metropolis that embraces Hollywood, where the density of reporters rivals that of Washington, D. C., and New Apple New York. The all-powerful, uncrowned king somehow learned of Ms. Hepburn's discharge from the hospital.
Fortunately, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a top-tier medical institution that provides excellent privacy protection for its VIP clients. Reporters wouldn't dare cause trouble at such a high-level medical center, otherwise they would face a full range of security measures, including bandaging and hospitalization, making it impossible to win a lawsuit.
This isn't some small hospital or an unscrupulous doctor with no connections. People in the inner circle of power wouldn't risk offending such a truly life-saving institution. Who knows when they might need its help?
Therefore, the reporters were effectively kept outside the hospital grounds.
Furthermore, Henry cleverly contacted the Actors Guild, whom he hadn't been in contact with for almost two years, and through Marianne, found a few minor actors to rent the same car.
A clever escape tactic drew the reporters' attention to the unsuspecting medical vehicle that was simply following the plan, causing them to swarm and follow it away.
The main reason for all this trouble was that there was a patient in the car; Henry didn't want to engage in a high-speed car chase with a group of crazy reporters on the street.
The young actors, being quite perceptive, didn't ask any unnecessary questions. Once the reporters were distracted, they could do whatever they wanted. Even if it ended early, they'd still get a day's pay for nothing, so there was nothing wrong with that.
The vehicle carrying the woman drove smoothly to Santa Monica Airport, the closest airport to the medical center. The Gulfstream jet, borrowed from the Mellon family and modified, was there, ready for takeoff.
