An Unusual Everyday Life
The bullies who had been beating people left. The only way they could get something out of Skye or Putz, who were penniless, was to sell them to the Cannibal Street.
But they are just children. Selling them could also result in their capture. It's like walking into a trap, so this option was never available in the first place.
The Black girl, her face swollen and blood streaming from her mouth and nose, struggled to crawl to her prized plastic ball hair tie. She carefully picked it up and tried to wipe away the mud and water that had gotten on it.
Although Putz was also in pain all over his body, he was in much better condition than the Black girl. He dragged her to sit against the wall, Skye cooperated with difficulty, but clung tightly to the plastic ball hair tie in her hand.
Because she hadn't lost her treasure, the Black girl only had a smile on her face. Being beaten was something so commonplace that there was really no need to worry about it too much.
Putz sat down beside her, their shoulders touching. The brat, with a hint of exasperation, said, "How can you still laugh after getting beaten up for something like this?"
"Because if I don't try to think about happy things and smile, I won't be able to keep going. Besides, this is a gift from you, the first time someone has ever given me a gift, and I really love this sparkly hair tie."
Looking at the Black girl's wide smile, her swollen eyes brimming with tears, Putz couldn't utter a single word.
Using his hands and the back of his head, Putz leaned against the wall and stood up, saying, "We need to find some food or money. I'm planning to go find Boreas King's men this morning. They might take half the pay, but at least they're law-abiding."
Like the Black girl, she leaned against the wall, trying to sit up, but eventually gave up and slumped back into her original position.
She said weakly, "You go first. I'll go to the other side. Today is the day the church distributes relief supplies; I'll try my luck in line. But I'm a little tired, so let me rest for a bit."
"Okay, I'll go first then."
"Putz!"
"How?"
"You should smile more; you're very cute when you smile."
"That won't do. If you're too cute, people will want to play with you like a doll."
A bad memory flashed through his mind. Even though he hadn't succeeded, experiencing it once was terrifying enough. Putz shook his head, trying to forget the unpleasant things.
The Black girl, however, seemed determined not to give up, saying, "You should still smile more."
"Alright, I'm off now," Putz said impatiently, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation.
Watching her only friend walk away, the Black girl tried to get up several times, but fell back to the ground each time. Her injuries were far more serious than they appeared.
Although this wasn't something she should know at her age, having witnessed many deaths, she suddenly realized that perhaps it would be her turn this time? Many people die because they are too weak to move.
The Black girl murmured, "Putz, I'm sorry, I can't stay with you any longer."
Such scenes are commonplace in the sewers. People die anytime, anywhere, whether murdered or simply starving to death. Accidental deaths like this are not uncommon either.
Just then, an untimely sound of footsteps rang out. It was a pair of high-end leather shoes that would never be found in a sewer; the sound of their heels striking the ground was unlike any other shoe.
Approaching the Black girl was a man in a classic tuxedo with ruffled edges. His hair was half black and half white, and he had a long scar on his face. However, his large beard couldn't hide it, making his overall appearance very incongruous and ridiculous.
He crouched down, completely unconcerned about the mud on his clothes. Maintaining eye contact with the Black girl, he asked, "Do you want to live?"
"Who are you?"
Although the voice was faint, it was still picked up by the man with Super Hearing. He introduced himself, "I'm Tinkerer, my specialty is saving lives. What If...? you want to live, I can help you."
"Why?"
"Yes, why?" the Tinkerer asked himself, then answered, "Perhaps it's because an old man helped me, but he's passed away, and I can't repay him. So I want to continue this kindness. As for why it was you, I can only say I just happened to see you."
"What would you like?"
"I only charge for a life. Unfortunately, your life is worthless, so it seems I can only help you for free," the Tinkerer said casually. "However, I also respect your wishes. What If...? you're determined to end it here, then I won't necessarily save you."
Just before the Black girl could answer, another person stepped out. He was a rather handsome middle-aged man, dressed fashionably and wearing a long scarf. He looked like some wealthy tycoon who had condescended to come to this place.
It removed its round cap and greeted, "Good day, helpless and innocent lovely girl. What If...? you have any will to live, you might consider me. Open and transparent business, and honest dealings with everyone, young and old."
And who are you?
"Great Demon Mephisto greets the lovely lady." The handsome old man placed his hat on his chest and bowed slightly.
The unexpected name made the Tinkerer's ears twitch. He hadn't noticed how this person had gotten there; it was as if he had appeared out of thin air and walked right up to him.
So... should I just punch it?
The Tinkerer tilted his head, looking at the "person" intently, deep in thought.
"Heh, friend, I didn't come for you. There's no need to look at me with such murderous intent," Mephisto said with a laugh.
The wish-granting power of the Infinity Stones would also have an effect on it, but the effect would be limited. Therefore, it clearly remembered how this person Sentry War.
Before the Tinkerer could speak, the Black girl weakly asked, "What If...? it's a demon, are you Angel?"
Shaking his head, the Tinkerer said, "I'm sorry, I'm not. I'm just a kind passerby. And I don't even know if there are Angel in this world, at most there's just an irresponsible God."
"However, I must emphasize that you don't have much time left to choose me. The internal bleeding is continuing to worsen, and if I can't save you from the excessive blood loss, your only options will be to sell your soul to the devil or die."
Perhaps the Tinkerer's words were too rational, even to the point of being somewhat inhuman, so the Black girl shifted her gaze to the demon.
It must be said that even in terms of outward friendliness, the great demon Mephisto had the upper hand. So the black girl spoke up, "Do you want my soul?"
Mephisto chuckled, first addressing the person beside him, "Looks like I've been chosen. You won't disrespect her wishes, will you?" Then he explained to the girl:
"Strictly speaking, I'm offering a second chance at life. You don't actually think that after people die, some go to heaven and some go to Hell based on their actions in life, do you?"
"No, the only common destination for everyone is Hell, not heaven. Giving your soul to me after death means that after your first life ends, you can embark on a different journey under my protection."
"Of course, this new life won't be like yours now, filled with unpredictable hardships. You'll just have to follow my instructions and complete some insignificant little tasks."
"It's a lot like playing a game. But most of the time, I don't interfere too much with the souls I protect, unless you can give me more fun. I think it's a good thing, it's just that most people can't understand it."
