Moving

Cathy Weber moved. As a disabled person with limited mobility, living in an apartment accessible only by stairs was extremely inconvenient, so she moved into an old building with considerable history but equipped with an elevator.

Elevators had existed in buildings since 1845, when they were powered by steam. By 1880, Germans had invented electrically powered elevators, and this facility had long since entered buildings throughout Europe and America.

So in New York, it was not difficult to find a cheap old apartment with an elevator.

Another reason for the move was that Anya Corazon, a South American girl whose father had been deported and who had been left alone in the United States, was moving in with Cathy Weber.

The United States was a very strange country. Criminals had to pay taxes on their illegal earnings, or they would also be charged with tax evasion at trial. Illegal immigrants could likewise attend school and obtain the relevant diplomas, as long as they paid tuition.

To allow Anya Corazon to remain without worry, Cathy became her legal guardian. This spared her from being forcibly placed by child welfare services, sent to an unfamiliar foster family, or worse still, deported by the U.S. government.

Although the guardianship was registered in the government system, the police would find nothing wrong if they investigated. But... the approval process had not exactly been legal. The same went for Anya Corazon's U.S. citizenship.

Since Henry was the one who handled it, he used the same method he had used to secure Skye's guardianship. The records even included a family court judge's signature and filing, but all of it was forged. The paperwork was simply very complete.

Still, given the workload of American family courts, as long as the judge confirmed it was his own handwriting,
