Henry entered the house and somehow produced a penlight, bringing a little illumination to the extremely dark interior.
It was broad daylight outside. That atmosphere alone, combined with the fact that it was clearly summer while the indoor temperature felt like winter, added an indescribably eerie air to the house.
The beam from Henry's flashlight was not very bright, allowing everyone to see what it illuminated without making every unlit place pitch-black.
Of course, Henry was not keeping the flashlight for himself. He handed it back to one of the girls, whoever took it. "Watch your step. Don't get hurt." With that, he and Kitty began exploring.
Henry was not being overly cautious, hugging the walls wherever he went. He looked as though he were visiting a museum, moving at a fair pace while casually taking in every place he passed.
As for the girls behind him, while Skye looked around everywhere, Lorna Dane kept most of her attention on Henry. That gave her a chance to notice that a misty red glow occasionally rippled through the leading man's eyes.
She rarely saw that sight. Most of the time, Henry looked perfectly normal.
Lorna did not think his appearance was caused by entering this haunted house. Instead, she realized that if he could be friends with a Mutant like Quicksilver, then he was probably no ordinary person himself.
That huge Tiger was much more frightening. Whenever she caught it looking back, even if everything else was too dark to see, its eyes shone brightly enough to make her afraid. It felt as though it were staring right at her, ready to pounce at any moment.
Moreover, there was no emotion visible in Tiger's movements whatsoever. Kitty was much the same as usual, strolling along lazily and ignoring the strange atmosphere
