Background & History
Before her journey into the Jade Pool Old Land, the Saintess had already used a drop of Saint Spirit Blood for a Transformative Rebirth at the Divine Bridge Realm. The experience contributed to both her cultivation and her immortal bearing, but she remained conscious of the gap between herself and the era's true peerless talents. She sought to develop the Emperor Scripture's Dao Palace chapter fully so that she could preserve Jade Pool Holy Land's standing in the coming great age. 112
She first encountered Li Zhi near the Primordial Ancient Mine, where she inspected the pit in which he lay, recognized him as an acquaintance, and collected him with the Jade Pure Bottle. 88 Intrigued by his unusual fortune, she later asked him to accompany her into the sealed Jade Pool Ancient Ground. In return for his aid, she offered access to the Immortal Lake's Divine Spring Water and promised a Peach of Immortality regardless of the expedition's outcome. 91 94
Jade Pool Old Land Expedition
The Saintess guided Li Zhi through the former Jade Pool grounds, using a Jade Pool water-drawing technique to extract ten cubic meters of life-rich divine water from the ninth layer of the Immortal Lake. 114 She then accepted Li Zhi's Seven-Colored Phoenix Blood to undertake a new Transformative Rebirth, during which her Dao Body and flesh were remade in greater harmony. 116
Following her Dragon Transformation Tribulation, she approached Li Zhi with gratitude and without the earlier condescension she had shown him. 118 Although she initially could not comprehend the Western Empress inscription even with a Scripture Guide, she persisted in searching the stone forest. Once Li Zhi located and activated further inscriptions, she recultivated the corresponding realms of the Emperor Scripture one by one. 120 121
The pair continued through burial caves, the Black Mist, and the Heavenly Pillar Divine Mountain. Prolonged battle transformed the Saintess from a sheltered holy-land fairy into a hardened combatant whose power touched the true essence of the Dragon Transformation Realm. 124 126 In the Saint Spirit Kirin's consciousness realm, she adapted by taking the form of the Jade Pool Empress Mother and commanding War Gods against the Immortal Kirin. 130
Ancient Starry Road
Though expected to inherit the Jade Pool Queen Mother's position, Wang Yao delayed the succession while awaiting Li Zhi's news. 490 She ultimately chose the Ancient Starry Road despite the elders' objections. Yang Yi, the Saintess from ten thousand years prior, supported her decision, provided the Quasi-Emperor Divine Weapon White Jade Pagoda, and warned that her feelings for Li Changshou could hinder her path toward the Jade Pool Saint Mother Dao Fruit. 491
After setting out with Li Zhi, she spent months travelling the early trial path alone, facing loneliness, hostile realms, and increasingly dangerous opponents. At the Gate of Trial, she asked Li Zhi to address her by her true name, Wang Yao, declaring that she wished to advance through the path by her own strength rather than rely on her status as Jade Pool Saintess. 492 493
Her fighting style grew increasingly ruthless and decisive on the road. She actively sought combat, sharpened her mastery of the Western Empress inheritance, crossed the Nine Heavens of Slaying the Dao tribulation, and reached the Human Race's First Pass as a Great Accomplishment King. 493 494 Later, after becoming a Sage, she chose to continue independently rather than be regarded as someone protected by Li Zhi. 521
Appearance
The Jade Pool Saintess is repeatedly described as possessing an ethereal, fairy-like beauty. She initially conceals her appearance in spirit mist, but later appears openly in her true form. Her transformative rebirth sublimates her beauty into an almost sacred presence rather than a merely striking one. 88 116 386
- White flowing robes, smooth black hair, and bare feet during her early appearances. 88
- Eyes that can reveal flickering mysterious runes and pierce Source Qi mist. 88
- A light, lotus-like bearing after her rebirth; her steps leave white lotuses in the void. 118
- Later wears White Flood Dragon-skin Saintly armor, a light-green hat, and a veil that even Li Zhi's Heavenly Eye cannot see through. 492
- Her later cultivation produces hazy immortal mist marked by faint runes around her body. 509
Personality
Initially dignified and somewhat aloof, the Saintess becomes far more candid away from Jade Pool Holy Land's attendants and guardians. She teases Li Zhi freely in private and is willing to voice suspicions about his dangerous methods, though she remains highly conscious of her public image as the Jade Pool Saintess. 111 112
She is ambitious, self-critical, and deeply invested in Jade Pool Holy Land's future. Her inability to comprehend the Western Empress inscription initially causes genuine self-doubt, while her awareness of the widening gap between ordinary geniuses and peerless talents drives her pursuit of rebirth, ancient inheritances, and the Ancient Starry Road. 112 120 490
Wang Yao ultimately refuses to remain dependent on Li Zhi. On the trial road, she deliberately embraces isolation and battle to prove herself worthy of Jade Pool's name, developing from a graceful negotiator into an iron-blooded warrior. 493 521
