"Not bad. My grandfather was from Ji Province." The shop owner smiled. "He came here decades ago, but he never lost his hometown dialect."

Lu Zheng nodded. "The four provinces of mountains and rivers—we're all fellow townsfolk."
Lin Wan and the shop owner both laughed. Then the owner continued, "There have been a lot fewer Hua Country tourists coming to Yangon lately."
"After all, Northern Myanmar isn't peaceful." Lu Zheng nodded. "It's affected this place too."
The shop owner's smile faded, but he lowered his voice and offered a warning. "Even here, try not to go to remote places. Even if you're going to tourist spots or markets, take a taxi whenever possible."
Lin Wan's gaze sharpened. "It isn't safe here either?"
The shop owner sighed with a bitter smile. "The economy's bad, and things are bad across the board. It's not especially serious, but it never hurts to be careful."
