Lin Wan Comes Calling

Yesterday's exertion had been too great, so Lu Zheng slept until he woke naturally the next day, his blood and qi brimming with vigor.

"Qi Refining Scripture, Five Talisman Method, Moving Skill—I've mastered them all again. So boring. What am I supposed to do?"

Lu Zheng lay stiffly on the bed, letting the sunlight outside the window fall over his sharply defined, sculpture-like body.

"What a pity. The Peace Talisman only warns against and defends against hostile and inhuman auras. It's only useful in the Great Jing Dynasty."

"I wonder whether there'll be any protective talismans later on that can guard against impacts. In modern Hua Country, that's about the only kind of accident that can happen."

Just as Lu Zheng reached downward, someone suddenly knocked on the door.

After moving here, no one knew where Lu Zheng lived.

Property management? Lu Zheng did not think much of it. He merely pulled on a T-shirt and shorts, then opened the front door.

"Lin Wan?"

To Lu Zheng's surprise, the person standing outside was not from property management, but the beautiful policewoman Lin Wan, whom he had met once before.

Two other male police officers stood beside Lin Wan.

Well, although none of them wore uniforms, who else could be standing with Lin Wan? Besides, Lu Zheng could faintly sense that they were cautiously on guard against him.

Why? "Lu Zheng." Lin Wan nodded at him.

"Uh, what's this about?" Lu Zheng asked with a bewildered look.

The two male officers exchanged glances, while Lin Wan said seriously, "A case has come up. We want to ask you a few questions, and we need you to cooperate by coming to the station to make a statement."

"What, a case?" Lu Zheng remained utterly confused. "What case could possibly involve me?"

As soon as he said that, Lu Zheng's expression changed. "Did something happen to my parents?"

Lu Zheng had always been a good man. The only thing he could think of was that something had happened to his parents and the police had come to notify the family.

Lu Zheng immediately pulled out his phone to call his mother.

The officer to Lin Wan's left took a swift step forward and reached for Lu Zheng's wrist.

The other officer moved straight in, pressing toward Lu Zheng's left shoulder.

"Don't make a move!" Lin Wan shouted urgently.

"Hm?"

Lu Zheng's eyes narrowed. His right hand flickered, slipping past the first man's grasp, while his body instinctively yielded, pressed in, and rammed toward the left front.

Bang!

The second officer was sent crashing straight into the wall opposite.

"Uh, sorry!"

Before the three officers could say anything, Lu Zheng himself was the first to get frightened.

"Sorry, sorry!" Lu Zheng stepped outside and hurriedly supported the man before he could slide down. "Sorry, it happened so suddenly. I didn't react in time."

Lin Wan and the other two officers were speechless.

Lu Zheng's reaction made the first male officer awkwardly stop in his tracks as well.

Lin Wan did not know whether to laugh or cry. "What are you doing? Lu Zheng, it has nothing to do with your parents!"

"Huh? Nothing happened to them?" Lu Zheng said in surprise. "Then what case could possibly have anything to do with me?"

Lin Wan shook her head, though she had clearly relaxed. "Come back with us first, and then we'll tell you."

"Oh, okay! Wait a moment while I change clothes and put on shoes."

Lu Zheng answered, then apologized again to the officer he was supporting. "Um, sorry. Really, sorry!"

The man rubbed his chest and forced out a smile. "It's fine. It's my fault too. I was too rash."

Lu Zheng gave an awkward dry laugh, then turned and went back inside.

"Lu Zheng, may I come in?" Lin Wan asked from behind him.

"Sure, look around as you like!" Lu Zheng answered over his shoulder.

Lin Wan and the other two exchanged looks, then followed him inside together.

"Should we change shoes?"

"No need!"

"Do you live alone?" Lin Wan entered the living room and looked around.

"Yeah!"

"You live alone in such a big place? So you're a rich man after all."

"Rich man, my ass. I'm renting it. If I were really rich, I'd have bought the place long ago."

Lin Wan first looked at the dining table, then at the coffee table, and shook her head.

Another officer strolled into the kitchen, then quickly came back out and shook his head as well.

The third officer leaned against the door to Lu Zheng's bedroom and happened to see him put on his outer clothes.

His gaze swept around the bedroom before he turned and left again.

"I'm ready. We can go now." Lu Zheng walked into the living room.

Lin Wan smiled. "Thank you for cooperating."

"As I should!" Lu Zheng said with a smile.

The group went downstairs together and got into an ordinary-looking Volkswagen Passat.

"Lengzi, sit in the passenger seat." Lin Wan tilted her head toward the other man.

"Ah, isn't that inappropriate? What if..."

"Heh."

Lin Wan gave a cold laugh. "What if? Even if something happens, would you be of any use?"

Liu Leng: T^T

Lu Zheng looked to his right at Liu Leng, then to his left at Lin Wan, before voluntarily opening the car door and getting in.

The car started moving. Only the two of them sat in the back seat, and the scent Lin Wan gave off was rather soothing.

"Do you have a lot of questions?" Lin Wan looked at Lu Zheng.

"Too many." Lu Zheng nodded. "What exactly is going on? It feels like you're being very cautious about guarding against me resisting."

Lu Zheng was no fool. He had merely taken out his phone, yet two grown men had immediately pounced on him.

"Once we get back to the station, we'll answer your questions. We have rules, so I can't tell you now," Lin Wan explained.

"I understand!" Lu Zheng nodded.

"Don't worry. Modern criminal investigation technology is very advanced. Innocent people generally won't be wrongly accused."

Lu Zheng's eyes widened. "That makes me feel pretty guilty!"

Lu Zheng was perfectly at ease. As the saying went, a straight body did not fear a crooked shadow. Though he was full of curiosity, he was not worried.

Lin Wan could sense Lu Zheng's ease, so she put down half the worry she had been carrying and teased him with a smile. "Guilty? Would a guilty person slam Lengzi into a wall in one move?"

Liu Leng turned back helplessly from the passenger seat. "Sis, you're going to lose me like this."

Liang Yuandong, who was driving, was a middle-aged police officer. He glanced back at Lu Zheng, his eyes filled with scrutiny. "Lu Zheng, your instinctive reaction was far too strong, wasn't it?"

If Lu Zheng had not seemed even more nervous than they were afterward, he would have called for backup long ago.

Lu Zheng licked his lips, gave two dry laughs, and said, "It's just that no one had ever attacked me before..."

Liang Yuandong: So it was our fault?

"Impressive. Is this the legendary 'striking someone like hanging up a painting'?" Lin Wan looked at Lu Zheng, strange light dancing in her eyes. "You subdued Li Yanjie in one move that day too. What martial art do you practice? Baji, or Pigua?"

"Li Yanjie? The guy who drove the Ferrari?" Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow.

"Yes!" Lin Wan nodded, looking at Lu Zheng meaningfully.

"That guy was even weaker." Lu Zheng shook his head. "What I used to subdue him wasn't a fist technique."

"Huh?"

"It was a blade technique." Lu Zheng smiled.
