Background / History

The Desolate Heavenly Emperor first emerged in the Chaotic Ancient Era after awakening from a deep sleep with no memory of his past or even his own name. He rose to become invincible, founded the ancient Heavenly Court, ruled the world, and forcibly opened the Immortal Ascension Path to enter the Immortal Realm—an achievement later Ancient Emperors and Great Emperors could not replicate. 160

He created and left behind the cultivation method of the Five Great Secret Realms of the Human Body. His seals and Dao runes remained on Flying Immortal Star long after his departure, preserving the origins of that system. 164

Before reaching the Immortal Emperor realm, he was struck down by the Corpse Immortal Emperor. Rather than truly dying, he used the incomplete Great Self-Transformation Technique to become hundreds of millions of drops of essence blood scattered throughout the River of Time. These drops could develop independently in different space-times and ultimately return to one origin. 220 246

After becoming powerful enough, he severed eternity with his sword, isolating the Immortal Realm from the Myriad Worlds and preventing the Weird Race from invading directly. He later led the Heavenly Court into Above the Upper Heaven, though his followers eventually withdrew because they could no longer keep pace with him. 212

He fought through the Soul River and other Weird Race strongholds alone, leaving behind a damaged stone tablet that recorded his research into Reincarnation and could serve as a coordinate for his will. 271 He also shaped a Reincarnation realm beneath Kunlun Mountain, where Meng Tianzheng remained in guard. 214 215

Appearance

The Desolate Heavenly Emperor is depicted as a majestic, peerless figure whose presence is difficult to describe. His appearance is unchanged across the eras Yang Qing observes, though his bearing carries the weight of innumerable battles and ages. 161 293

  • In battle on the Sea of Worlds, he appears covered in blood and severe wounds, yet remains upright and unyielding. 369
  • He wields a blood-dripping sword embryo during his confrontation with the Weird Progenitors. 369
  • His massive manifested feet can tread through the River of Time and crush a Supreme Being's attack. 293

Personality

The Desolate Heavenly Emperor is resolute and solitary. He bears the burden of resisting the Weird Race for ages, fighting powerful enemies without relying on reinforcements. 233 294

Despite his overwhelming strength, he recognizes exceptional talent in later generations. Upon finally meeting Yang Qing, he praises Yang Qing's unprecedented rate of growth and regards him as a future comrade-in-arms rather than merely a successor. 293 294

His wish to restore those lost in war reflects the personal cost of his long campaign. Yang Qing concludes that the deaths of the Desolate Heavenly Emperor's companions motivated his pursuit of Reincarnation and the possibility of Reflecting All Heavens. 215 233

Abilities & Skills

Great Self-Transformation Technique

A peerless imperial technique that allowed him to survive the Corpse Immortal Emperor's killing blow by transforming into innumerable drops of essence blood across the River of Time. 220 246

  • His essence blood can manifest across different time periods without suffering the usual backlash of the River of Time. 246
  • A returned drop of blood awakened multiple manifestations of himself during the battle at Emperor Pass. 247
  • The technique enabled him to manifest three Peerless Experts, including versions armed with matching weapons. 247

Sword Dao

His swordsmanship is associated with severing eternity and illuminating the heavens.

  • His sword isolated the Immortal Realm from the Myriad Worlds, obstructing the Weird Race's advance. 212
  • He destroyed the Darkness Source and once swept through the Soul River. 212 293
  • His sword light decapitated a Weird Progenitor and annihilated its physical body. 369

Time and Space Traversal

The Desolate Heavenly Emperor can act across or beyond conventional space-time.

  • His essence blood persists independently within the River of Time. 220
  • His manifested feet crossed the River of Time, shattered a Supreme Being's bone hand, and carried Yang Qing into a void beyond ordinary concepts of time and space. 293
  • His ancient tablet can act as a coordinate through which his will may descend or be contacted. 271

Reincarnation and Cultivation Legacy

He established systems and constructs that continued to shape later eras.

  • Created the Five Great Secret Realms cultivation method for the human body. 164 215
  • Personally shaped the hidden Reincarnation beneath Kunlun Mountain. 214
  • Studied Reincarnation, with his findings preserved in the Soul River stone tablet. 271
