Background / History

Naruto is the son of Kushina and Hyuga Shin. Shin chose the name “Naruto” while Kushina was pregnant; Ayari initially remarked that it sounded like a ramen topping. 228 By the time of his infancy, he lived within Shin's household alongside Kushina and the other members of the family. 231 247

He grew up with Sasuke and Neji as brothers, with Neji recognized as the eldest. 326 Hinata is his younger sister, though the two regularly argue at home; she once woke him by placing her foot on his face. 413 Naruto and Sasuke frequently compete, including over who will become Hokage. 302

Before entering the Ninja Academy, Shin worried that Naruto might struggle academically because he spent much of his time fooling around with Sasuke. 323 He later enrolled and was publicly known as Prince Naruto. 412

Personality

Naruto is competitive and outspoken, particularly around Sasuke. Both boys aspire to become Hokage and readily turn even minor disagreements into contests. 302

Within the family, he is informal and easily provoked by Hinata's teasing, but he also accepts his father's strength as an ideal to pursue. 300 413 At the academy, he uses his knowledge of another world's future to tease Sasuke about Haruno Sakura. 412

Childhood in the Imperial Family

Naruto is raised as one of Shin's children, alongside Sasuke, Neji, and Hinata. He and Sasuke declare their shared goal of becoming Hokage, while Neji instead aspires to join the Crown Guard. 302

Naruto from Another World

An alternate-world Uzumaki Naruto temporarily awoke in Naruto's body. The visitor was confused by the luxurious home, his younger body, Sasuke's friendliness, and the presence of a family he did not recognize. 325

During the incident, the alternate Naruto experienced Kushina's care, learned that Naruto, Sasuke, and Neji were brothers, and briefly came to appreciate the safety and affection of this world's family. 326 He later returned to his original world, awakening in Iruka's classroom. 326

Ninja Academy

Naruto becomes a Ninja Academy student and is addressed as Prince Naruto. He and Sasuke trade collectible cards, while Naruto continues to joke about Sasuke's alternate-world future with Sakura. 412
