"Bring the defendant to the stand." Horatio, wearing a white wig, struck the gavel before him.

Quirrell's Alchemy Golem brought a lantern to the defendant's stand.

Horatio pulled out an indictment and read aloud, "Defendant: Tom Riddle, male, born December 31, 1926, at Wool's Orphanage in London. Confirm whether this is correct."

A weak voice came from the lantern. "Confirmed."

"Good. The trial concerning Tom Riddle's murder of the Potters is now in session."

Presiding Judge Horatio Quibble, Associate Judge Hathor, jury members Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape, and plaintiff Harry Potter.

Raise your hands to confirm your attendance."

Three hands and one cat paw rose from below the stand.

After confirming that everyone was present, Horatio continued, "Tom Riddle, also known as Voldemort, murdered James Potter and Lily Potter in Godric's Hollow on October 31, 1981."

At the mention of Lily's name, Snape seemed to recall something and slammed the jury table hard.

Horatio glared at him. "Jury members, please exercise restraint. This is a solemn court. If you cannot control your emotions, I will have you removed."

After warning Snape, Horatio continued reading. "The defendant was captured by the brave and handsome prosecutor, Horatio Quibble, on October 24, 1991, and imprisoned within this lantern."

Harry suddenly raised his hand from below the stand. "Your Honor, Voldemort was captured by you long ago. Then who was the person I fought before the Mirror of Erised?"

"Ahem. Don't concern yourself with such details. This is Voldemort's trial. Once this court session is over, ask Dumbledore. He will explain it to you."

Harry glared at Horatio. He had more or less guessed what was going on.

Horatio guiltily turned his head away, but then he remembered that the term had not ended yet and Harry was still his house-elf, so he glared back.

After giving Harry a warning look, Horatio said to the lantern, "Does the defendant admit to the crimes listed above?"

The lantern swayed. "I admit it."

"What is the associate judge's opinion?"

"Meow!!" Hathor raised her cat paw. Guilty!

"And the jury's opinion?"

"Guilty!" Dumbledore and Snape raised their hands at the same time.

"Very well. Regarding Tom Riddle's murder of the Potters, the court hereby rules that defendant Tom Riddle is guilty of intentional murder. He is sentenced to life in the flames, to be confined within Horatio's Lantern, and deprived of his political rights for life."

Dumbledore suddenly raised his hand to interrupt him. "Your Honor, may I request that Voldemort's soul be interrogated? We need to ask how many Horcruxes he has and where they are hidden."

Horatio rolled his eyes at Dumbledore. "How much do you expect one half of a remnant soul to know?"

"This court session only gave it the barest ability to answer because I used a large amount of soul-nourishing potion."

"I know what you are thinking. Once we find more soul fragments, I can fuse them together and use the resonance between identical souls to search for nearby souls."

Dumbledore shook his head. "No. What I want to ask is, if this soul barely has any consciousness, why hold this trial at all? What is the point?"

Horatio immediately cursed, "Isn't it because that SB Author insisted on posting at some unholy hour and didn't notice they had put it in the wrong volume?"

"I was already prepared to haul rice at the Ministry of Magic, and now they've dragged me back to first year to work overtime again."
