After finishing the first lesson, Doctor Leon could clearly feel that the Combat Team members' attitude toward him had changed.
Before this, they might have only seen him as a boss, a leader, but they weren't truly convinced in their hearts.
But when Leon single-handedly killed over thirty zombies right in front of them, everyone started treating him like a true powerhouse, someone they could rely on, and no one dared to doubt him anymore.
Submitting to the strong is everyone's instinct; the more someone relies on violence, the more they submit to it.
"Follow me and watch how I do it."
Leon took a few black one-piece raincoats, masks, gloves, towels, and several wooden masks from a subordinate—all found in the Nursing Home.
He led the group to a spot in the ruins with the most zombie corpses. Under everyone's astonished gazes, he put on gloves and a mask, then used a machete to cut open a zombie's stomach.
"Zombies rely on hearing and sight to sense their surroundings, but their senses are already damaged. They only care about things that make loud noises or move fast."
"As long as you move slowly like them and don't make a sound, you won't attract much attention."
"Zombies have a keen sense of smell. Within three to five meters, they can easily tell the difference between a living person and themselves."
"Get too close, and they'll notice you."
"But they can't tell apart the scent of their own kind."
"So..."
While teaching the group about zombies, Leon used a towel to reach inside the corpse and soak up its bodily fluids.
These monsters, rotting for dozens of days, gave off an unbearably foul and nauseating stench. Even with a mask on, it was still awful.
Luckily, the original Doctor Leon's memories had similar experiences, or I really wouldn't have been able to go through with this.
Leon took the towel, now soaked in stinking, reddish-black fluids, and evenly smeared it over a black one-piece raincoat and mask.
One corpse's fluids weren't enough, so he grabbed another.
Only after coating everything completely did the black raincoat and mask become camouflage items covered in black-red liquid.
"So, as long as we're covered in their scent to mask our own, move as slowly as they do, and make no sound, they won't be able to tell us apart from them."
"This is the second lesson: Flesh Camouflage."
Leon looked at the group, their faces pale from the stench, and said:
"To survive, to protect ourselves and our families, for the future of humanity, we can't be afraid of or shrink from any difficulty."
"Today, you stand here watching from a distance. Learn well. This is a very practical disguise. In the future, it might save your lives and help you escape a zombie siege."
The raincoat and mask smelled awful. Leon forced himself to endure the discomfort and put them on, wrapping himself up completely, leaving no skin or flesh exposed except for his eyes.
If it weren't for building authority and image and teaching the subordinates this method, I wouldn't wear these stinking clothes.
Damn! This stinks.
When I get back to the Nursing Home, I'm taking a good bath. If only little Amy could help me wash up.
Grumbling internally, after getting dressed, Leon slowly walked toward the street. Under everyone's watch, he gradually approached a group of about five zombies in the distance.
Hearing the noise, the zombies just turned their heads slightly to glance at Leon, then stood there blankly as if they hadn't noticed anything.
That move made the Combat Team members' hearts leap from afar.
Damn, that scared me.
Is this going to fail?
Leon's heartbeat also quickened a few beats—this was his first time doing something like this. Luckily, it went smoothly. The disguise worked.
Standing still for a few seconds, Leon slowly moved to the side and back of one zombie. In a blind spot where the other zombies wouldn't notice, he quietly drew a dagger.
Choosing the right moment, he braced the zombie's back with his left hand, brought his right hand around to its face, and stabbed straight into its eye socket.
Pfft!
A soft sound of flesh being cut. They couldn't scream, so they made barely any noise before turning into corpses.
Leon slowly lowered the zombie's body to the ground without a sound. Then he picked another zombie, slowly approached it, and repeated the process. In just a few minutes, he took down all five.
Returning to the group, Leon couldn't wait to strip off the stinking clothes and throw them on the ground.
He rested for two minutes before facing everyone and saying:
"See? With this method, we can not only assassinate zombies, scout for intel, and scavenge supplies, but if we do it right, we can even guide zombies, moving them from one place to another."
Leon looked at the group with an encouraging, expectant gaze and said:
"You're the first members of the Security Department. As long as you're loyal enough and contribute enough to the company, you have a good chance of becoming squad leaders, team leaders, or even department heads."
"I'm a generous boss."
"As long as you have the ability and enough loyalty, you'll get generous rewards."
After painting that rosy picture, Leon looked at Merle and Daryl, pointed at the other raincoats and masks on the ground, and said:
"Captain Merle, Deputy Leader Daryl, as the leaders of the Combat Team, please demonstrate for your members."
"Let your team see what you're made of."
Daryl swept his eyes over his teammates, nodded at Leon, took a light breath, and silently pulled a dagger from his belt, choosing a zombie to start gutting.
Merle gave a slight bow to Leon, then turned to the team with a roguish grin, scratching his crotch in a thuggish manner as he spoke with menace:
"You little bastards have really landed yourselves a good boss, one willing to teach you survival skills hand by hand."
"Old Merle never had such luck back in the day. Thank God for it. If any of you ever dare betray Mr. Leon or do anything to harm him, Old Merle will absolutely find you, kill you, rip out your guts, and torture you without mercy."
"I mean every word."
Leon was inwardly surprised. Meeting Merle's gaze, he showed a satisfied expression and nodded in approval.
He hadn't expected that old thug Merle had this much social savvy—playing the villain himself, leaving the reputation and benefits to me.
Mm, not bad at all.
He could increase the investment in training him; maybe he'd become a loyal attack dog in the future.
Having earned the boss's approval, Merle smiled, found a zombie corpse, pulled a dagger from his pocket, and began skillfully carving it up.
As it turned out, a ruthless man stayed ruthless.
The Dixon brothers didn't even bother with raincoats. Wearing gloves, they smeared zombie blood and flesh directly onto their own skin and clothes without changing expression.
Each holding a dagger, they used ambush tactics, coordinating seamlessly to take down eight zombies with ease.
Brutal, vicious—merciless to their enemies and even more merciless to themselves. The brothers' savage demeanor successfully intimidated the rest of the team.
"Tomorrow there will be a battle, and I'll teach you the third lesson then."
"Remember today's lesson. Think hard about how you'll fight in the future."
With the lesson finished, Leon led the combat team back to the Nursing Home. He didn't bother with anything else and went straight to take a shower, washing off the stench of rotting corpses.
Maybe he'd get used to it over time, but for now, he couldn't stand the disgusting smell.
