Shisui was regarded as an exceptional Uchiha child from an early age. The clan elders originally intended for his Academy enrollment to be brief before placing him in the Guard Unit, but his conduct diverged from their plans after he began learning from Kanda Kyoichi. He requested permission to join another Jonin's team after graduation, specifically seeking Kyoichi's guidance. 11 12

Kyoichi's lessons in Body Flicker and ideology profoundly shaped Shisui. He came to regard Kyoichi as his life mentor, learned to question the Uchiha's isolation and ambitions, and concluded that the clan's future could not rest solely on its traditional power or Guard Unit status. 13 35 36
