His father's Hell Stab was a technique that broke through a surface by attacking a single point. In theory, breaking through the ice should have been even easier for him.

This was partly because his father's strength had declined after being resurrected by Impure World Reincarnation, but more importantly, the Mist Village shinobi had grown even stronger than he had been back then.

Elsewhere, seeing Kakuzu trapped on the ground by two men wreathed in lightning, Deidara wanted to rush over and rescue him, but he had his reservations.
