His first thought was Dane, so he immediately pulled up the Manor's surveillance footage.
But Dane was currently lounging around watching TV, engrossed in Gotham News.
Batman felt a surge of irritation and shut off the screen.
Then he fell into confusion again. If it wasn't Dane, then who was it?
Wayne Manor.
Once he sensed the feeling of being watched disappear, Dane drew a human-sized circle on the ground.
Someone suddenly flew out of it, hung in midair for a brief moment, then fell back to the ground under gravity.
"Ow!"
Who else could it be but Damian?
Damian got to his feet, shivering.
"You made me free-fall from Mount Everest for a full thirty minutes!"
"Hopefully that cured your foul mouth."
Dane did not care, and though Damian was furious, he dared not say anything.
He was not truly that stubborn. He knew the person before him would not indulge him unconditionally.
Looking at the stubborn little boy before him, Dane asked, "I heard from Jason that you decided to come here yourself. What did you come here for?"
Damian awkwardly turned his face away.
"I heard there was a lunatic here dressed as a bat, so I came to take a look."
Dane chuckled. "That's it?"
"That's it," Damian said stiffly.
"Then go back. Gotham isn't very safe right now, and I'm not interested in babysitting."
As Dane spoke, he prepared to open a Portal. Damian hurriedly said, "Wait!"
"What else is there?"
"You win. I came to find Batman. He's my father."
Faced with Dane's almost supernatural methods, Damian could only come clean.
"Batman is busy trying to save this city. He doesn't have time to see you."
"I can help him. Don't let my age fool you. No one in the League of Assassins can beat me except my grandfather!"
Dane believed that. It was said that even Damian's mother had not mastered as many fighting techniques as Damian had.
"So what are you planning to do? Help out?"
Damian hurriedly nodded.
After thinking for a moment, Dane said, "You can help, but don't go causing trouble on the streets. That's Jason's hunting ground now."
"Go find a girl named Barbara Gordon and protect her."
"Who is she?"
Hearing that he would not be allowed to go out and kill people, Damian was unhappy, and his tone was not very pleasant.
"She used to be your father's assistant, Batgirl. She's paralyzed now, but she's still working for your father."
"I'm worried someone might target her. Go protect her. You might even get a chance to catch the one behind all this."
Upon hearing about Barbara's deeds, Damian reined in his attitude.
No matter what, someone like her, who was still willing to stay and help at a time like this, deserved respect.
As for the mastermind, that was secondary now.
Damian wanted to see who this "Batgirl" was.
So he nodded and agreed to follow Dane's arrangement and protect Barbara.
Dane nodded in satisfaction as well. "Very good. In that case, I'll give you the other suit."
He clapped his hands and brought Damian to Umbrella's armory as well.
Inside the Glass Case was a smaller suit. Its design differed from Arkham Knight's, looking more like ninja attire.
He had made the suit's mask look like Deadpool's, completely concealing Damian's face.
An assassin should look like an assassin. It was not like a mask like Robin's could really fool anyone.
This suit also used nanotechnology, but unlike Jason's suit, it could not assemble firearms.
Although Dane had no scruples, he was not about to let a child run around killing people with a gun.
So this suit could only assemble cold weapons used by ninjas.
Things like katanas, Shuriken, Throwing Stars, and Smoke Bombs.
Naturally, all the throwing weapons came with locking systems. Even a dog could land every throw with them.
The suit could also enhance its user's physical abilities. Damian might be a genius, but the fact that his body had not fully developed was undeniable. He would still suffer the disadvantages he should when facing adults.
At the very least, the suit's enhancement functions could help him close the gap against larger opponents, so he would not truly get beaten around helplessly.
Finally, Dane had specifically added a Shield System, which could raise an Energy Shield whenever the suit came under heavy attack.
This was Kryptonian technology. Even missiles could not blast through it.
With defenses this impenetrable, it would be hard for Damian to die even if he wanted to.
Damian fell in love with the suit at first sight and clamored to put it on.
Dane granted his wish, opening the Glass Case. The suit automatically equipped itself, and Damian quickly turned into a little ninja with his face hidden.
After getting somewhat familiar with it, two sword hilts suddenly extended from his shoulders. He materialized two katanas and strapped them to his back.
Dane had Cortana locate Barbara, then opened a Portal and shoved Damian straight through it.
After finishing all that, he returned to Wayne Manor once more.
He hijacked the TV signal and switched it to Jason's first-person view, then eagerly settled in to watch the show.
"What's a First-Person Shooter? This is the real fucking deal!"
Poison Ivy
Jason was on a killing spree!
Every villain he encountered along the way, major or minor, was guaranteed only one outcome: death!
Soon, the private military forces' line completely collapsed.
Once they realized that superheroes could kill too, most villains' first instinct was to run!
Everyone cursed their parents for not giving them an extra pair of legs, but turning their backs to Jason only made it easier for him to pick them off.
Jason happily called the roll.
What he had learned in the League of Assassins was not limited to cold weapons and hand-to-hand combat. He had also learned how to use all kinds of firearms.
He could not claim to hit every shot, but none of his bullets went to waste.
Especially when paired with the Nano Suit that could assemble any firearm configuration and an Aimbot, he was practically a god of slaughter.
Even if The Punisher came over from next door, he would have to call him big brother.
Jason felt utterly exhilarated. The frustration of having to let criminals go in the past, the helplessness he felt when facing victims' desperate eyes—all of it was swept away beneath his guns.
"Who the hell are you?!" someone could not help demanding.
"I. Am. Vengeance!"
At Wayne Manor, Dane hurriedly recorded that part, especially Jason's line: "I am vengeance."
"A classic among classics. Batman's iconic line. That's one hell of a tribute."
Jason was having the time of his life killing, but Batman soon followed the smoke of war to this place.
Seeing a masked man slaughtering private soldiers, he attacked Jason without a second thought.
He threw several Batarangs, which curved through the air toward Jason.
Jason did not hold back either. He fired directly, shooting every Batarang out of the air.
At the same time, his Voice Changer-altered voice emerged from beneath his mask.
"Well, look who it is. The great Batman himself. What are you doing here?"
Batman glided through the air, paused, and landed in front of Jason.
"Who are you? Why are you killing them?"
"Me? I'm one of the dead, returned from hell. You may call me Arkham Knight."
Hearing "Arkham," Batman seemed stirred by something, and Jason keenly caught it.
"Yes, you know very well. You know exactly what kind of monsters are in there."
"I truly can't understand why you refuse to kill this scum."
"If you had done that before, none of what happened in Gotham tonight would have happened."
"I never execute anyone without due process. That is my bottom line."
"Hypocrite!"
Jason lunged forward and kicked. Batman raised both arms to block the blow.
He assessed it immediately. The kick carried tremendous force.
Jason did not stop. As soon as one foot touched down, the other rose, knocking Batman's arms aside before his fist slammed into Batman's face.
"And you lie!"
Jason pressed his advantage, fully displaying the techniques of the various martial arts schools he had learned in the League of Assassins.
Batman had lost the initiative and found it difficult to turn the situation around.
And he could not deny it: after more than half a year of inactivity, his condition had indeed declined.
But Batman still had a brilliant mind. Taking advantage of a gap in Jason's attacks, he dropped a Smoke Bomb, and Jason instantly lost his vision.
Batman had activated his infrared lenses beforehand and used the opportunity to land a vicious blow on Jason.
His fist smashed heavily into Jason's mask.
The moment he was struck, Jason activated infrared mode as well.
Batman knocked him back, but Jason pretended to remain blinded. When Batman drew close, he suddenly counterattacked and sent him flying.
"Useless. Your little tricks don't work on me at all!"
Batman climbed to his feet, and his deep voice suddenly said, "Really?"
Jason suddenly heard a beeping sound. Looking down, he saw a Batarang stuck to his chest.
When did that happen? Just as the thought crossed his mind, the Batarang suddenly erupted in a brilliant flash.
It was a flashbang!
Batman seized the chance to launch a flying kick, but hit nothing but air.
He quickly scanned his surroundings and saw Jason being pulled into the distance by black cords hanging from one hand.
He had not been blinded by the flashbang, and he had already prepared an escape route.
Batman clenched his fists. The enemy knew him very well—of that, he was certain.
But who could it be?
