As one of the prominent high schools in New York City, Midtown High wields considerable influence, largely thanks to the parents of its students. Nevertheless, this doesn't stop Midtown High from showcasing its prestige.
Every year, Midtown High organizes visits for its students to the headquarters of major tech companies. This serves to show students what big corporations and high technology look like as they prepare for university, and also to help them figure out what kind of careers they might want.
The visit to Osborn Industries was planned long in advance. The school had arranged it even before Chen Changsheng transferred there; they were simply incorporating the Young Genius Class students into the existing schedule.
Chen Changsheng was, of course, very interested in Osborn Industries. After all, besides Stark Industries, Osborn Industries was the most famous in this world.
His plan was to tour Osborn Industries and learn about its corporate culture. On another level, Chen Changsheng also wanted to witness the classic scene of Peter getting bitten. Since he was here, it felt wrong not to see this historic moment.
At this moment, Peter and his good buddy Harry were trailing behind Mary Jane, whispering about how to approach her.
Peter was still very green and shy. In the end, he didn't dare to go up and strike up a conversation.
After listening to some of Peter's scientific explanations about spiders, Harry couldn't hold back any longer. He rushed ahead to Mary Jane's side and started talking to her.
Peter Parker stood behind them, dumbfounded. He listened as Harry and Mary Jane chatted about the spider facts he had just explained to Harry, and a huge question mark appeared on his forehead. "That's all my stuff!"
As Harry and Mary Jane's voices grew louder, they attracted the attention of the supervising teachers.
A Black teacher quietly walked up to Harry and Mary Jane, placed a finger to his lips, and whispered, "If you still want credit, shut your mouth."
Seeing the stern expression on the supervising teacher's face, Harry Osborn gave Mary Jane an awkward smile. He then scratched his head and followed the teacher aside, preparing to offer a proper explanation.
Seeing his friend Harry being called away by the teacher, leaving Mary Jane standing alone looking at the spiders, Peter's eyes lit up. He thought, This is my chance.
He then strode over to Mary Jane with his camera, cleared his throat, and said, "Can I take your picture? For the school newspaper."
After speaking, Peter even held up his camera to bolster his courage.
Mary Jane and Peter Parker were neighbors, so she naturally recognized him.
Although she rarely spoke to Peter, she was happy to be asked to take photos for the school newspaper. She smiled and asked Peter, "Of course, is this okay?" Then she struck a seductive pose.
Speaking of which, Mary Jane's looks were truly stunning, outshining everyone else. In all of Midtown High, perhaps only Gwen could compare to her. It was no wonder Harry and Peter were always hovering around Mary Jane like devoted fans.
Chen Changsheng watched the passionate high school youths and couldn't help but smile. It seemed he hadn't quite adjusted his mindset yet. He was a teenager now!
Just as Peter was happily taking picture after picture of Mary Jane with his camera, a red and blue mutated spider descended from the ceiling on a long strand of silk, slowly landing on Peter's hand.
After sensing its surroundings, the mutated spider bit the vein on Peter's hand.
Peter cried out in pain and flicked his hand, throwing the mutated spider aside. The mutated spider was tenacious; it landed on the ground without a scratch and scuttled under a nearby table with a wiggle of its backside. As Peter shook his hand and watched the mutated spider disappear under the table, Mary Jane's best friend arrived and called her away.
Seeing Mary Jane about to leave, Peter no longer cared about being bitten by the spider. He shouted to Mary Jane from afar, "Thank you, Mary Jane..."
Unfortunately, Mary Jane, who had already walked away, didn't hear Peter's words.
After reaching under the table, the mutated spider crawled towards a wall, intending to climb back to the ceiling to continue spinning its web. However, Chen Changsheng didn't give it that chance, extending a tentacle and snatching the spider.
Although Spider-Man's strength might not necessarily surpass his own, Chen Changsheng felt it was necessary to preserve the relevant gene sequence from this mutated spider. Who knew if it would be useful in the future?
With a firm squeeze, the mutated spider turned into a pool of bloody pulp, which Chen Changsheng then absorbed into his body.
After sensing the mutated spider's genetic information, Chen Changsheng fell into a brief daze. This mutated spider actually had some genetic limitations, meaning only Peter Parker would turn into Spider-Man after being bitten.
But these simple genetic limitations were as good as nonexistent for Chen Changsheng. After all, as the Virus Will Aggregate, Chen Changsheng was quite confident in his abilities. Just as Chen Changsheng was analyzing and replicating, a girl's voice rang out.
"Hi, Jack, what are you looking at?" Helen Zhao, a gifted girl from Asia, and Gwen Stacy walked up to Chen Changsheng and asked him, who was lost in thought.
"Nothing much, Helen. Hi, Gwen." Snapping back to reality, Chen Changsheng greeted them openly. He certainly wasn't as afraid of talking to people as Peter Parker was.
In the few days he had been at the school, Chen Changsheng had already established good friendships with all his classmates. Whether they were boys or girls, Chen Changsheng always found a way to connect with them.
After chatting with Gwen for a while, Chen Changsheng tentatively invited Helen and Gwen, "Would the two beautiful ladies, Helen and Gwen, care to join me for dinner?"
Upon hearing Chen Changsheng's invitation, Gwen and Helen exchanged a look. Then, they both smiled and asked Chen Changsheng, "Are you inviting one of us to have lunch with you?"
"Whoa, that question stumped Chen Changsheng. Is this a love triangle?"
Far across the ocean from his homeland, Helen Zhao was surrounded by fair-skinned Caucasians. The only other person with black hair and yellow skin like hers was Chen Changsheng. Furthermore, Chen Changsheng was quite good-looking, so Helen Zhao had developed a favorable impression of him early on. However, the reserve of an Eastern girl made it difficult for Helen Zhao to express her feelings, so their relationship was more like mutual good feelings.
As for Gwen, she was a lively American high school girl with excellent grades and a good family background. Crucially, she was also very beautiful, one of the few campus beauties at Midtown High.
Gwen had always been indifferent to boys because, in her opinion as a super-student, all the boys in her high school were as stupid as bears. The only one who was somewhat intelligent was Peter Parker, but Peter was a mess in every aspect except for his academic performance.
Therefore, when Gwen met Chen Changsheng, who had good grades, was handsome, and, most importantly, had excellent earning potential, she felt very happy.
How to choose? Two celestial beings. Chen Changsheng couldn't choose. If he had to choose, Chen Changsheng could only say he wanted both. Being in high school, Chen Changsheng, who hadn't felt young in a long time, wanted to live like a young man.
In the evening, at a French restaurant in downtown New York City designed for couples, Chen Changsheng brought Gwen and Helen there for a meal.
Okay, this was very straightforward. Even though Chen Changsheng had lived for so long, he still lacked experience in this area. How could someone who had never been in a relationship in their life handle this situation? In Chen Changsheng's view, two people just eating and watching a movie...
However, no one expected that there would be someone like Chen Changsheng who would brazenly try to date two people at once. Even the experienced restaurant staff had never seen three people come to a couple's restaurant for a meal. But the customer is king, and Chen Changsheng tipped generously, so the waiter served them with extra attentiveness and care.
Gwen and Helen Zhao had no intention of dating Chen Changsheng at this moment. They both considered it just a casual meal, so who cared that it was a couple's restaurant?
During the meal, the three of them had a pleasant conversation, getting to know each other's interests and learning about the customs and cultures of their respective countries. When Gwen and Helen learned that Chen Changsheng was an orphan, their maternal instincts immediately kicked in, and their tone of voice towards him softened.
This made Chen Changsheng feel a bit awkward. "I want to be your boyfriend, not your mom!"
After the three of them finished their meal happily, Chen Changsheng first took Gwen home before accompanying Helen Zhao back to the apartment.
It wasn't that Chen Changsheng and Helen Zhao were roommates. Rather, both Chen Changsheng and Helen Zhao were students sponsored by Stark Industries, so they were arranged to live in the same building.
Chen Changsheng did have an orchard of his own where he could live, but that orchard was too far from New York City. If he were to live there, commuting to and from school every day would be a huge hassle. Therefore, Chen Changsheng was temporarily staying in the apartment allocated by Stark Industries.
The orchard outside New York City was also being closely guarded by the security team Chen Changsheng had hired. Security personnel patrolled the perimeter of the orchard 24 hours a day, and the latest monitoring equipment from Stark Industries was installed inside the orchard to ensure its safety.
Each fruit was worth $100, making the entire orchard a massive gold mine. Although Chen Changsheng didn't particularly care, it was currently his main source of income, so he paid it some attention.
Of course, the main reason was that the Willow Tree's clones in the orchard were producing Life Essence, so Chen Changsheng didn't want anyone to notice the anomaly here.
Through the peculiar connection between the Virus Will Aggregates, Chen Changsheng contacted the Bug Nest still deep in the ocean. The Mother Nest had also developed rapidly, and the Zerg army, having undergone mimicry, had already controlled the surrounding waters. The Biochemical Zerg army gathered at the seabed near the Gate was capable of repelling attacks from any country's fleet on Earth. The ocean was, after all, never humanity's home turf.
The Bug Nest's development was indeed fast. Chen Changsheng himself hadn't even established a foothold in this world, yet the Bug Nest had already set up a base and achieved considerable scale.
If this weren't the Marvel universe, Chen Changsheng might have entertained other ideas, like forcibly expanding and conquering the deep blue sea.
Upon further thought, he decided against it. There were too many powerful beings here; he couldn't afford to provoke them.
The accumulation of Biomass for the Bug Nest would only accelerate in the future, and Chen Changsheng couldn't possibly collect it all himself all the time. Thus, he issued an order for the Bug Nest to produce some powerful units for defense.
In the Prototype world, the Willow Tree and Elizabeth had engaged in offensive and defensive drills for over a decade, during which many interesting Zerg evolved through combat. All Chen Changsheng needed to do was share this genetic information with the Bug Nest and have it start incubating.
The Zerg's expansion was far from gentle like the Willow Tree's, so Chen Changsheng needed to add some restrictions for them. Otherwise, within a few days, all of humanity might discover a colossal entity that had appeared out of nowhere in the ocean.
The restrictions were simple: first, the swarm's activity range couldn't be too far from the Bug Nest; second, they had to mimic Earth's marine life. Most importantly, if any were captured, their genes would automatically collapse, turning into a pool of genetic fluid that would merge into the ocean.
