Geography and access

• The Inner Domain and Border Wasteland belonged to the same world, but the Border Wasteland's Heaven and Earth Spiritual Opportunity had been annihilated while the Inner Domain's remained active 94.
• The Endless Mountains formed the practical barrier between the regions. Fierce Beasts near the Inner Domain made crossings lethal for most Border Wasteland explorers 116.
• Iron Mountain County, located in Great Yue's Lanping Commandery near the Iron Barrier Mountains, was regarded as a poor county by Inner Domain standards despite exceeding Donghe Commandery City in scale 116.
• The Northern Wasteland contained the Demon Hunting Battlefield and the peaks associated with the Gate of the Spirit Domain; its terrain later provided Li Xuan with material for formation diagrams 218 219.
• The Gate of the Spirit Domain served as the portal between the Inner Domain and Spirit Domain. It could only be opened from the Spirit Domain side 204 223.

Society and factions

• The Inner Domain contained three major kingdoms: Great Yue, Yan, and Ziyun. Great Yue was the strongest and was divided among five feudal kings, each backed by a Grandmaster 115.
• Numerous sects, aristocratic families, and local powers operated alongside the kingdoms 115.
• Seven Stars Academy was the foremost academy, independent of any dynasty and influential across the region; its prominence was second only to the Heavenly Treasure Pavilion 115.
• The Heavenly Treasure Pavilion maintained branches throughout the Inner Domain and was a major market for cultivation methods, Spiritual Medicine, Spirit Crystals, and treasure artifacts 94 185.
• Martial Dao was widespread even in remote settlements, in sharp contrast to the Border Wasteland 116.

Martial Dao and resources

Inner Domain Martial Dao

• Cultivation began at the Ninth Rank and progressed through nine ranks. Above the First Rank were Qi Refining Grandmasters, who cultivated internal martial qi 76 94.
• Inner Domain Grandmasters could control qi and fly, but cultivated internal martial qi rather than Innate True Qi 76.
• Its methods depended on active Heaven and Earth Spiritual Opportunity: practitioners sensed and refined gentle Spiritual Qi from heaven and earth 94.
• The system was limited to the Half-step Heavenly Human realm within the Inner Domain; reaching Martial Dao Heavenly Human required entering the Spirit Domain 213.

Cultivation resources

• Potions and medicinal baths could assist cultivation, but required at least seven days between doses to prevent residual medicinal power from accumulating in the body 94.
• Spiritual herbs were purer than potions, refined easily, and left no residue, but were rare and usually unaffordable to ordinary martial artists 94.
• Spirit Crystals were naturally formed from jade mines over time. They functioned as martial artists' currency and could be used to buy Spiritual Medicine and treasure artifacts 94.
• Grandmasters commonly used Spirit Crystals to replenish consumed inner qi after battle; using them for routine cultivation was considered wasteful 94.
• The Inner Domain had apothecaries but no established pill-refining tradition; spiritual herbs were generally brewed and consumed directly 94.

History

Xue Wuxin's arrival in the Border Wasteland first revealed the Inner Domain's existence to Li Xuan and his disciples. He identified himself as an Inner Domain demonic cultivator who had fled across the Endless Mountains while pursued by enemies 75. Xu Yan later crossed the mountains and became the first of Li Xuan's disciples to enter, seeking Spiritual Medicine and encountering the region's prosperity firsthand 114 116.

The Inner Domain's relationship with the Spirit Domain became increasingly important after the Gate of the Spirit Domain resurfaced. The gate allowed access to a more resource-rich martial world, but Inner Domain entrants without Jade Tokens were commonly treated as slaves or “pigs and dogs” by Spirit Domain powers 204 214. This humiliation, combined with the Inner Domain martial path's cultivation ceiling, drove powerful local figures toward Li Xuan's Great Wasteland Martial Dao 202 213.

Major powers began publicly converting their disciples, and Seven Stars Academy renamed itself the Great Wasteland Martial Dao Academy 215. With support from Grandmasters, Half-step Heavenly Humans, and the Great Wasteland Inner Cabinet, the designation “Inner Domain” was deliberately abandoned in favor of “Great Wasteland” 234 235. The Ziyun Kingdom's collapse marked the Inner Domain's official replacement by the Great Wasteland 236.

The Gate of the Spirit Domain later disappeared, and the Spirit Domain merged with the former Inner Domain, expanding the Great Wasteland 333 502. Under Tianzi's governance as the Great Wasteland Heavenly Dao, local laws improved, cultivation bottlenecks weakened, and Refining Spirit Realm and Law Condensing Realm martial artists began to emerge 510.

Legacy

• Older martial artists continued to practice Inner Domain martial arts when they could not smoothly convert to the Great Wasteland system 430.
• The younger generation increasingly knew the former Inner Domain only through martial arts academy records 430.
• Following the merger, the Gate of the Spirit Domain no longer separated the two regions; both were considered part of the Great Wasteland 502 510.
