History
Founding
The Immortal Encounter Sect originated from the collapse of the Bronze Drum Sect. After Bronze Drum Immortal ascended, his three disciples fought for leadership and divided the legacy into hostile branches. The eldest disciple, Qing Xuanzi, inherited the Azure Emperor lineage and founded the Immortal Encounter Sect. 8
The sect became the state religion of the Great Gan Dynasty, which supports it with national resources. Despite this position, it permits other sects to operate within Great Gan territory. 2 9
Sect rules and entry
Chen Ganliu entered the sect as a handyman at age twenty-eight after receiving talisman instruction from Daoist Five Willows. 2 Handyman and outer disciples do not automatically receive the sect's core teachings; Chen's previous-life cultivation relied on the accessible Six Harmonies Qi Refining Method and progressed slowly. 3
Disciples who leave the sect before reaching the Spirit Embryo Realm cannot pass their personal Dao techniques to descendants. They may select only two Qi Refining methods to establish a family foundation. 3 Chen Ganliu's former Dao Companion exploited a loophole by privately transmitting the full Azure Emperor Jia Yi Art to her husband rather than to descendants. 3
Organization and Standing
- The sect is regarded as the foremost immortal sect in Great Gan. It reportedly possesses twelve True Yang Realm cultivators and dozens of Spirit Embryo Realm cultivators. 33
- Its Azure Emperor inheritance is considered slightly superior in Daoist-method level to the Green Leaf Sect's talisman-based path. 40
- The sect is not chiefly known for talisman arts; its Twelve Talismans of the Profound Gate are external techniques rather than core inheritance. 35
- The Jade Mountain Sect is a branch sect of the Immortal Encounter Sect. Daoist Five Willows belongs to that branch. 3 9
- Nearby minor sects, including the Little Moon Sect and Golden Bell Sect, cooperate with the Jade Mountain Sect to maintain order at Suiyang Immortal Market. 9 19
Teachings and Cultivation
Azure Emperor Jia Yi Art
One of the sect's three foundational Qi Refining methods, the Azure Emperor Jia Yi Art directly points toward the Great Dao of True Yang. It was cultivated by Chen Ganliu's former Dao Companion from Qi Refining through Golden Core and beyond Spirit Embryo. 3
- A top-tier Qi Refining art, described as vastly more profound than the Six Harmonies Qi Refining Method. 3
- Produces Azure Emperor Jia Yi True Qi, which can readily power techniques and treasures aligned with the sect's inheritance. 46
- Its True Yang-level standing is compared to the White Emperor's Discourse Collection, though the sect possesses True Yang Realm cultivators while the White Emperor did not reach that realm. 27
Six Harmonies Qi Refining Method
The Six Harmonies Qi Refining Method is an introductory practice used by outer disciples.
- It is balanced, peaceful, easy to begin, and carries a low risk of qi deviation. 3
- It can cultivate to Qi Refining perfection and has follow-up methods beyond that realm. 17
- Chen Ganliu spent twenty years in the sect in his previous life yet reached only the second layer of Qi Refining with it. 2 3
Twelve Talismans of the Profound Gate
A common talisman art transmitted through the sect's outer branches, including the Jade Mountain Sect. 3
Incantations
---
Thunder, Fire, Seal, Bind, Still, Control, Mountain, Light, Startle, Conceal, Gather, and Illusion
The talismans are used for wilderness protection, warding ghosts, and repelling demons, but are treated as auxiliary arts rather than a path of cultivation. 3
Geng Metal Qi Refining Art
The Geng Metal Qi Refining Art was one of the two techniques selected by Chen Ganliu's former Dao Companion when leaving the sect. 3
- It belongs to the Geng Metal branch of the Profound Gold Dao Method. 8
- The sect lacks the Xin Metal volume and subsequent methods, preventing the art from being counted among its true inheritances. 8
- The complete Profound Gold Dao Method remains the exclusive orthodox transmission of the Jade Purity Feather Ascension Tower. 8
Thirty-Six True Sword Control Arts
The Mind-Wandering Zen Blade contains the sect's Thirty-Six True Sword Control Arts. Chen Ganliu recognizes one of its incantations from prior practice but cannot decipher the complete art at his cultivation level. 36
Sect-Protecting Treasures
- Mind-Wandering Zen Blade — Formerly one of the sect's seven Flying Swords and described as its foremost immortal weapon. It possesses powerful spiritual essence and chooses exceptional cultivators as masters. 50
- Azure Luan Saber — Elder Gongye Lan's treasured saber; counted among the seven great famous sabers and one of the sect's six sect-protecting Flying Swords. 21
- Sect-protecting immortal formation — A major defensive formation capable of besieging Yao Hanshan for thirteen days and nights, though he eventually broke through it while severely injured. 16
Conflict with Yao Hanshan
A former genius of the Immortal Encounter Sect cultivated the Clear Mirror Dao Heart before disappearing from the sect. Centuries later, he returned with an immensely powerful demonic cultivation technique, massacred rogue cultivators at Suiyang Immortal Market, and attacked the sect. 16
The attacker fought within the sect's defensive formation for thirteen days and nights before breaking out despite severe injuries. The event became a sect taboo, and the escaped cultivator remained a major threat. 16
During the later assault, the sect dispatched disciples under Golden Core cultivators including Nan Shiheng and Ouyang Tuo to pursue Yao Hanshan's female disciples. 23 24
- The Mind-Wandering Zen Blade escaped confiscation, killed an Immortal Encounter Sect disciple, and attacked the sect's formation from within. 24
- Combined attacks from the blade and external demonic forces destroyed the formation in less than half an hour. 24
- The Qi Refining Realm disciples present were killed, leaving Nan Shiheng and Ouyang Tuo to continue the battle. 24
- Yao Hanshan later withdrew to the overseas Three Saints Island to recover from injuries sustained while breaching the sect-protecting formation. 36
