Background / History

The Green Leaf Sect is regarded as Great Gan's second immortal sect, surpassed only by the Immortal Encounter Sect in overall strength and disciple numbers. Its founding ancestor reached the True Yang Realm, and the sect retains several Spirit Embryo Realm Great Cultivators. Its Green Leaf Spirit Talisman Technique is widely sought throughout Great Gan, including by the Immortal Encounter Sect. 30

The sect has existed for hundreds of years and has passed through eight generations. Its founding ancestor relinquished the position of sect leader to his eldest disciple 170 years earlier and departed to travel; his whereabouts remain unknown. 35

The sect's two Grand Elders are Heavenly Moon Fairy Qi Qingyao and Golden Flower Maiden Xu Qiongyin. Xu Qiongyin is the mother of Yang Xuesheng and the direct grand-master of Chen Ganliu's master, Yun Susu. 35

Philosophy and Membership

• The sect emphasizes freedom, ease, and unfettered enjoyment in cultivation. 33
• Disciples are taught the Dao without restrictions on which path they choose to cultivate; rewards and punishments are described as clear and impartial. 33
• It does not formally accept ordinary outside disciples. Every five years, disciples previously sent down the mountain to marry and establish families may send eligible descendants back for selection. 32
• Returning applicants present a Green Leaf Talisman and undergo a Heart-Questioning Trial; the sect generally does not investigate lineage further. 32
• The sect knowingly tolerates some infiltrators from other sects, accepting them without probing their origins or prior techniques. Despite this policy, such disciples have historically been highly loyal, with very few betrayals. 32
• Disciples with limited aptitude or stalled progress are sent down the mountain to establish families, regardless of whether they descend from powerful cultivators. 32 33
• The sect also accepts demons: Yang Xuesheng, daughter of the demon Yang Shiyilang, joined from a young age because her mother, Xu Qiongyin, forbade her from cultivating demonic arts. 34

Green Leaf Spirit Talismans

The sect's foundational inheritance consists of 108 Green Leaf Spirit Talismans created by its ancestor, Xu Qiongyin, and Qi Qingyao. The talismans provide a path to enter the Dao through talisman arts and, when cultivated step by step, offer hope of reaching the True Yang Realm. 40

• The first thirty-six talismans are introductory methods for the Qi Refining stage. 35 40
• A further thirty-six talismans are taught at the Golden Core Realm, while the final thirty-six are taught upon reaching the Spirit Embryo Realm. 40
• The Qi Refining talismans are divided into A and B categories and primarily cultivate Jia Wood; each corresponds to a Jia Wood Spiritual Vein. 41
• Individual talismans have limited power, but combinations can produce numerous specialized spells. 36 45
• Disciples who master the thirty-six talismans can cast more than one hundred introductory spells—over ten times the number available to introductory Immortal Encounter Sect disciples. 45

Healing and Exorcism

The Green Leaf Spirit Talisman Technique is especially renowned for healing injuries, curing illnesses, and dispelling evil. Other Great Gan sects actively seek its talismans, while the Immortal Encounter Sect purchases them for distribution among its disciples. 30

• Complete talismans can be condensed into a Natal Spirit Talisman that resonates with the user's own Spiritual Vein. 41 45

• Invisibility Talisman — combines Light Shading, Spirit Radiance, and Shadow talismans; it covers a wider range than the comparable Profound Gate method. 36

• Yun Susu — Xu Qiongyin's eldest chief disciple; considered the Green Leaf Sect's most promising younger-generation genius and the disciple with the greatest hope of reaching the Spirit Embryo Realm. She is severely injured after assisting against a Great Demon. 35 43
• Yu Qinghong — Yun Susu's first disciple; gathers herbs and refines healing pills for her injured master, and teaches Chen Ganliu the sect's complete introductory talismans and Natal Spirit Talisman method. 35 40 41

• Disciple Recruitment Season — The sect's recurring recruitment cycle draws Chen Ganliu to Green Leaf Mountain. He enters under the false name “Nan Sixing” by presenting an acquired Green Leaf Talisman. 32 33
• Chen Ganliu's Apprenticeship — Yang Xuesheng recommends Chen Ganliu to Yun Susu, who accepts him as her second disciple shortly before entering healing seclusion. 34 35
• Myriad Talisman Tower Examination — Due to a staffing shortage, Dragon Cloud Cave sends Chen Ganliu to act as chief examiner. He studies the sect's foundational talismans and publicly demonstrates the Heart Talisman Technique. 35 36 39
• Abduction from Green Leaf Mountain — Jiang Ningxue and Xie Zhanrou capture Chen Ganliu after Nan Shiheng mistakes him for a demon threatening Yun Susu. Green Leaf Sect cultivators pursue them but cannot catch their escape lights. 43
