It was not that they wanted to become Hokage themselves. Konoha truly could not go without a Hokage's leadership; having no Hokage in command for so long had caused a tremendous impact.
Each inquiry brought another disappointment. This kind of meeting had already been held three times, yet the outcome had been nearly the same every time.
Even Tsunade herself did not know where Ronglin was or when he would return, let alone anyone else.
Many people were craning their necks, waiting for his return, while others hoped he would never appear again—such as Rasa, Ay, whose face and dignity had both been left at the village gates, and Ōnoki, who was getting older by the day and increasingly prone to throwing out his back!!
Yet what drove people to despair was that time continued to slip away, while Ronglin showed no sign of appearing. The election of the Fifth Hokage was also placed on the agenda.
"Can we wait a little longer? I believe he's fine. He'll come back."
Inside the meeting room, Tsunade was no longer seated at the head of the table. The Third Hokage had taken the main seat instead, and the primary topic of discussion today was the election of the Fifth Hokage.
The moment the issue of electing the Fifth Hokage was brought up, all of Konoha erupted, especially the Uchiha clan.
The Uchiha, now the dominant force in Konoha, simply would not allow anyone else to lay a hand on that position, giving many people a headache. Fortunately, they quieted down after Tsunade became the final candidate.
Although the Fifth Hokage would not be an Uchiha, it was close enough. Anyone who was not blind could see the relationship between Tsunade and Ronglin. Whether she was an Uchiha or not no longer mattered.
