For some reason, Ronglin always felt he had no response to that. All he could say was, you're the veteran driver—you win. Everything you say makes sense. I am completely convinced.
No matter how absurd the reasoning was, White Fang was still the instructor leading Tsunade Class. Whether it was right or wrong, the three of Tsunade Class could only grit their teeth and accept it.
"Pick up the pace. If you encounter an urgent mission or need to provide support, are you going to be like this then?"
Not long after leaving the village, the disaster that was Harusame Yu's big mouth descended. As the weakest among them, her Chakra was quickly depleted after running at high speed for so long. She panted heavily, drenched in sweat.
Shimura Ou was slightly better off, while Ronglin showed no change at all, maintaining his pace as he followed behind White Fang.
The poor performance of the two troublemakers immediately drew White Fang's displeasure. Frowning, he began to reprimand them, leaving Harusame Yu and Shimura Ou—who had wanted to ask for a break—with no choice but to grit their teeth and keep going. Ronglin, who was three years younger than them, could endure it, but they could not. If word got out, they would be utterly humiliated.
With White Fang present, the two had no choice but to persist.
"Alright, you can rest now."
Their rapid march continued until the weakest, Harusame Yu, was nearly about to faint. Only then did they finally get a chance to rest. The two troublemakers collapsed onto the ground, so exhausted that they did not even want to move a finger.
White Fang observed the two of them, shaking his head and sighing more than once along the way.
He could not understand why these two had been assigned to the same team as Ronglin. Balancing the team's strength was one thing, but such an enormous gap was also a headache.
Doing things by the book was convenient for Harusame Yu and Shimura Ou, but it offered Ronglin no training value at all.
But if they proceeded according to Ronglin's level, those two would not be able to keep up.
White Fang found it very difficult to understand why the three had been placed on the same team.
It was not just White Fang who did not understand. Even Tsunade, who had initially taken them on, found it strange. She had asked and protested several times, but to no avail. The three were still assigned to the same team.
At first, Ronglin himself had been somewhat puzzled as well, but he soon abandoned the thought. He could not be sure whether the Third Hokage's arrangement was deliberately meant to test him.
Taking out rations and water and placing them on the ground, Ronglin silently walked to one side to replenish his strength. He could endure it, but the prolonged travel had drained a great deal of his stamina as well. Only by staying in peak condition at all times could he face an enemy with his full strength when one appeared.
Even while resting, he did not forget to look after his overly exhausted teammates. This made White Fang even more satisfied with Ronglin. Though he offered no words of comfort, what Ronglin had done was already enough.
The Next Command Is Yours!
The Land of Rain was one of the most chaotic countries in the Ninja World—perhaps even the most chaotic.
"This weather is really disgusting."
Upon reaching the border of the Land of Rain, not only Shimura Ou and Harusame Yu but even Ronglin felt irritated. A light drizzle fell constantly, occasionally growing heavier. You would never see the sky turn blue or feel the warmth of the sun.
Anyone living in a hellhole like this would be poor!
There was nothing to rely on for survival, nor were there many crops to support the population. Living in a place like this was simply worse than death!
Ronglin was glad that he lived in Konoha rather than the Land of Rain. Even if he was unwelcome in Konoha, it was still better than living here like a walking corpse.
"After a few days, you'll get used to it. The rain here seems never-ending. Over the course of a year, there are very, very few days when it does not rain."
White Fang jumped onto a large tree. With a flash of his blade, a hollow appeared in the trunk, just large enough for White Fang to sit inside and rest. Ronglin and the other two stared blankly at the sight. Did they have to figure out their own resting places too?
Because of the year-round rainfall, the Land of Rain was filled with foul-smelling muddy pools. Finding a suitable place to rest was difficult, so tree hollows were a decent option.
But only if you prayed that, when thunder struck, lightning would not hit the place where you were resting.
