After confronting Jiraiya over Bunta, Ronglin distanced himself from Konoha’s affairs and refused to surrender Kisame or Mei Terumi to Kirigakure. As Akatsuki began capturing Jinchuriki, Minato failed to find Gaara after reaching Sunagakure, while Ronglin chose not to intervene.

• Ronglin injured Bunta, blocked his escape and Minato’s Flying Thunder God Technique, then warned the Toad Sage through Bunta to keep Mount Myōboku hidden.
• Ronglin returned home, met Hinata and Temari, and asked Temari to support the shy Hinata.
• When Kirigakure asked Konoha to hand over Kisame Hoshigaki or Mei Terumi, Ronglin refused to give up either of them and said he would no longer interfere in Konoha’s affairs.
• Obito launched Akatsuki’s plan, and Deidara and Sasori abducted Gaara after seriously wounding Rasa.
• Tsunade sent Minato to Sunagakure to rescue Gaara if possible and investigate Akatsuki’s purpose, while Ronglin declined to act on the news.

Akatsuki captured Gaara and Yugito Nii and continued hunting the remaining Tailed Beasts, prompting Tsunade to warn Konoha and call for a Five Kage Summit. Meanwhile, Ronglin considered Kimimaro’s illness, and Hidan and Kakuzu caught up with Han.

• Akatsuki extracted Shukaku’s Chakra from Gaara, and Yahiko assigned Hidan and Kakuzu to capture the Four-Tails while Akatsuki avoided targeting the Nine-Tails.
• Ay learned that Yugito Nii was still missing, while Ronglin refused Mei Terumi’s suggestion to use Uchiha manpower to search for the Sage Lands.
• Ronglin summoned Kimimaro, judged that his hereditary illness might be fatal, and suggested that he could cure it.

While the Kage fought the Six Paths of Pain and other Akatsuki members, Ronglin confronted Danzō and the defected Shimura Clan, trapping them as Itachi and Kimimaro moved to kill them.

• Ōnoki confirmed that Akatsuki had captured Han, and the Five Kage agreed to hold a summit in Kumogakure as the villages feared for their remaining Jinchuriki.
• The Five Kage assembled in Kumogakure, where Ay said Killer B was hidden, but their argument over Akatsuki ended without agreement.
• Ronglin, Itachi, and Kimimaro secretly traveled to Kumogakure, while Nagato ordered Akatsuki to attack the village and draw out Killer B.

Ronglin killed Danzo and the Shimura clansmen, then intervened as Akatsuki’s Six Paths of Pain devastated Kumogakure. While Minato and White Fang pursued Nagato, Ay, Tsunade, and Rasa defeated Sasori and hurried to join them.

• Ronglin trapped Danzo and the Shimura clan inside the barrier, killed Nightmare Demon, took Danzo’s Sharingan, and tortured him into using Izanagi before killing him.
• Ronglin warned Itachi about forbidden techniques and Uchiha Fugaku’s eyes, while Kimimaro reported that the Shimura clansmen were dead.
• As Akatsuki attacked Kumogakure, Tsunade and Katsuyu treated the wounded while Ay, Minato, Jiraiya, and the village’s forces fought the Six Paths and their summoned beasts.
