Background / History

Man Xiongmu was born in White Dog Stockade and later entered Skull Mountain to cultivate. After decades of dangerous cultivation, he attained enough standing to descend the mountain as a patrol envoy. Skull Mountain dispatched such envoys annually to its eighteen surrounding stockades to maintain defensive artifacts and patrol for newly born monsters. 12

Returning to White Dog Stockade, he reunited with his old friend, Chieftain Shan Manmu. He renewed the protective aura of the stockade’s bronze ancient cauldron, enabling its Exorcism Talismans to repel Yin spirits, and tested the local children for spiritual perception. 12

Man Xiongmu quickly recognized the exceptional potential of both Chi Limu and Wu Tian. He taught Chi Limu the Tongyou Spell after her grandfather’s death, then became alarmed by her extraordinary advancement and suspected that she possessed the legendary Dao Body. Concerned that Skull Mountain could not safely protect her, he sought Zhu Yushuang’s aid. 14 17 19

Man Xiongmu is a burly, tall man whose imposing presence is amplified by his mastery of black wind techniques. He initially appears as a fierce Skull Mountain envoy, though his conduct toward fellow villagers is often familiar and warm. 12

Man Xiongmu is practical, stern, and acutely aware of Skull Mountain’s internal dangers. He deliberately concealed the protective edict placed on Wu Tian so that his disciple would not become complacent or rely on outside protection. 36

Despite his rough manner, he is deeply protective of those under his care. He values Chi Limu’s rare talent, shields Wu Tian from Tong Guan’s attempts to take him, and worries intensely when Wu Tian disappears in the mountains. 17 35 78

He can be blunt and disciplinarian, particularly toward Wu Tian and Shi Yu, but his guidance is sincere. Wu Tian’s extraordinary innate talents occasionally provoke open jealousy, which Man Xiongmu channels into harsh sparring and instruction. 54 108

Skull Mountain Envoy

Man Xiongmu returns to White Dog Stockade as a Skull Mountain patrol envoy. He renews its anti-spirit protections, discovers Chi Limu’s spiritual potential, and recognizes Wu Tian as an unusually fortunate White Dog nearing spiritual transformation. 12

Guardian of Chi Limu and Wu Tian

After teaching Chi Limu the Tongyou Spell, Man Xiongmu realizes her talent may attract danger. He changes his plans and seeks Zhu Yushuang’s protection for her. He also begins guiding Wu Tian through the Qi Nourishing Realm and the Qiyun Cave inheritance. 17 27

Conflict with Wild Dog Cave

Tong Guan demands Wu Tian to make a Beast Robe for Tong Jin. Man Xiongmu refuses, revealing Zhu Yushuang’s protective edict on Wu Tian and forcing Tong Guan to withdraw. He later accepts Tong Guan’s condition for the Moon Swallowing Qi Circulation Diagram after Wu Tian agrees to patrol the mountain for three years. 35 48

Demon Calamity and Return to White Dog Stockade

Man Xiongmu fights Greater Demons during the Demon Calamity, including a prolonged battle against a Tiger Demon that leaves him severely wounded. Rather than flee when the White Ape Demon King threatens the stockade, he chooses to remain and protect its people. 79 80

After leaving Skull Mountain, he settles in White Dog Stockade as its resident mage. His presence stabilizes the village and attracts displaced people seeking safety. 82

Imprisonment and Rescue

Skull Mountain captures and imprisons Man Xiongmu in Yin Wind Cave, where the Yin wind drains his vitality and Magic Power. Wu Tian storms Skull Mountain, finds him chained within the cave, and uses Zhu Yushuang’s edict to break his restraints. 102 103

Recovery and Aftermath

While recovering at White Dog Stockade, Man Xiongmu continues teaching Wu Tian and accepts a Banana Fruit to replenish his depleted Magic Power. He later helps Chi Limu, Chen Chunjiao, and Wu Xia’er manage Skull Mountain’s aftermath, including treating the injured, settling civilians, pursuing demons, and sorting the damaged earth veins. 108 125
