Suddenly, the larvae that had been gnawing at the giant beast's flesh froze as one.

The chitin beneath their carapaces began to twitch violently, as though they had been struck by Animate, displaying properties similar to muscle.

Then, they suddenly swelled up.

The newborn shells gleamed with a dark golden sheen beneath the moonlight. Their bodies grew somewhat larger, their jointed limbs became thicker and stronger, and sharp spines even sprouted from places such as their joints.

The transformed larvae bumped their new shells against one another, producing crisp clashes of metal.

Mysterious natural patterns appeared on the shells. They looked as though they had been drawn in golden thread, surrounded by a faint golden radiance.

The little fellows were clearly delighted with their new forms. They excitedly circled Roy, showing themselves off like puppies.
