Before the enormous floor-to-ceiling window, Angel and Sanders sat facing each other. Gentle, warm sunlight streamed in from outside, soothing the atmosphere at once.
A young waiter in a white shirt and black suspenders approached with an exquisite tea tray.
"Ph-Phantom Demon, sir, su..." The waiter's hands trembled, and his words became a stammer.
"That's enough. Put it down," Sanders said with a wave of his hand.
The waiter nodded as though a heavy burden had been lifted, then set down the tray. He took out gold-rimmed tea ware and arranged milk, tea bags, and sugar on the table.
"There are also some pastries in the shop. Would either of you care for any?" Though the waiter had finally straightened out his tongue and stopped stammering, the sweat beading on his forehead still revealed his inner nervousness.
"There are pastries too?" Angel took the dessert menu and flipped through it. There really were quite a few.
"How did you obtain the ingredients for these?" Angel remembered that before leaving, he had procured a great many supplies for New City, but food had not been among them.
The waiter lowered his head respectfully. "The ingredients for the pastries come from breadfruit trees. As for the milk and saccharin, they are produced by a trick called the Condensed Milk Technique. I do not know the details."
