"Did the cake become tastier?" Luigi repeated in a low voice. Then, as if recalling something, he looked up at Angel.
Angel caught Luigi's gaze as well.
In each other's eyes, they saw the same thought.

The Hound Butler had also heard Angel's earlier explanation about the cat ears. Putting everything together now, it arrived at precisely the same conclusion as them.
Hound Butler: "How about making some food and seeing? Maybe we'll be able to spot the difference."
Faced with the Hound Butler's invitation, Angel was genuinely tempted. If he wanted to witness the exact changes, all he had to do was prepare some food.

Though the conversation had died down, the Hound Butler did not let Angel off. Its gaze kept flicking toward him.
If someone else were looking at him, Angel would not have cared. But the Hound Butler could read minds. With it constantly glancing his way, Angel could not help letting his thoughts drift in strange directions.
Luigi saw this as well.
However, Luigi knew perfectly well that since the Hound Butler had promised Laplace, it would never use mind-reading on Angel. As for why it kept glancing at Angel, Luigi could more or less guess.
"Don't think I don't know what
