The Hound Butler's words seemed to describe Nakbi's predicament. Yet Laplace could tell that the latter half of his words carried similarly surging emotions, as though he were pitying himself while speaking of his own plight.

On second thought, it was understandable. When the Hound Butler spoke of "being in an unfamiliar place, unable to see the road ahead or know the way home," was he not also speaking of himself?

Nakbi, on the other hand, had nothing.
