History

Earlier generations

Heartfast is an inherited and historically feared power. The first Mind Fast was said to have shattered the Classic of Mountains and Seas, leaving its surviving fragments hostile toward later bearers. 226

The fourth-generation Mind Fast cultivated several Immortal Qi paths, fought the Human Emperor on even terms in repeated duels, and earned the title of the Great Void's “number one Heavenly Demon.” Ancient Listed Immortals eventually joined forces to kill him during a critical point in his ascension, reportedly suffering severe losses themselves. 303

The fifth generation died prematurely after being forced into cultivation to confront Ancient Immortals. The sixth generation lived in a comparatively peaceful era and left little recorded achievement. Chen Xuan learns this history and resolves to break the decline of the recent generations. 313

Chen Xuan's inheritance

Chen Xuan first recognizes Heartfast after it lets him witness the Small Underworld and experience the body and cultivation method of the Mystic Cat Goddess. He names the method he learns through this experience the Mystic Cat Breathing Method. 4 5

As his cultivation rises, Heartfast becomes central to his confrontations with Heaven's Chosen. It allows him to enter the Human Emperor Banner's Heaven's Mandate, discover its possible true name as the Nine Nether Blood Soul Banner, and confront the monster controlling Heng Gu's soul body. 108

Chen Xuan later uses Heartfast to derive the complete Flame Emperor True Scripture from the Flame Emperor Bright Heaven's Mandate, including the subsequent Heaven's Chosen path. 165

In Guyao Mountain, a feng shui secret art initially conceals Hua Liuli's Two Realms Master Heaven's Mandate from him. With her cooperation, Chen Xuan breaks through the interference and develops the second level of Heartfast. 203

Heartfast's exposure draws the attention of Sun True Lords and other major powers, many of whom react with immediate unease because of its ancient reputation. 258
