Rise in the Lian Clan

At seventeen, Lian Chengyu was one of the Lian Clan's three recognized masters and its most promising candidate for a Purple Blood Warrior. As the Tribe Leader's grandnephew, he held greater practical prestige than the elder himself and was widely expected to become the next leader. 5 6

He sought to use a Savage Bone to reach the Purple Blood Realm within three months, then lead the Lian Clan into the Tai'a Divine Kingdom's Warrior Selection. The clan invested its scarce medicine, food, labor, and hopes in this plan. 7 17 21

Savage Bone Refinement

Lian Chengyu treated the Cold Python Savage Bone as his path out of the Great Wilderness. When the commoners forced to refine it began failing under its poison, he approved recruiting more people to absorb the toxicity, regarding their deaths as acceptable for his breakthrough. 21

After Yi Yun drew Zhang Yuxian's attention, Lian Chengyu publicly presented himself as a generous patron while covertly arranging Yi Yun's death. He offered him supposedly beneficial pills, sent him into the Savage Bone operation, and later intended to blame the workers' deaths on him. 39 40 57
