Yu Xiaogang was renowned as a leading Soul Master theorist, but his own Martial Soul mutation left him unable to overcome the level-thirty bottleneck. His confidence in established Soul Master principles was shaken when he witnessed Han Yuchen's impossible thousand-year first Soul Ring and the effects of Counter. 9 10

He initially tried to accept Han Yuchen as a disciple. Han rejected the offer and instead proposed a cooperative arrangement: Yu Xiaogang could study Han's Martial Soul, Soul Rings, and anomalies, while providing knowledge, information, and cultivation resources in return. Yu Xiaogang accepted the terms and began documenting Han's abilities through controlled tests. 10 13

At Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang increasingly recognized that Han's powers lay outside conventional Martial Soul theory. After Zhao Wuji was forced to strike himself, he concluded that Counter resembled a rule or law rather than a known Martial Soul ability. He and Flender therefore chose to seek Han's guidance rather than attempt to teach him conventionally. 66
