Nature and Origin

The Foundations are tied to the incomplete Heavenly Daos governing the Myriad Realms. Lan Cai'er explains that each can restore part of a world's Heavenly Dao, recover a portion of its ancient power, and raise that world's cultivation ceiling 736.

A commonly circulated account states that the ancient Great World and its Heavenly Dao shattered, producing the Myriad Realms and the Foundations. Qi Zixiao later rejects this chronology, stating that the Foundations existed before the Myriad Realms and after the disappearance of the Primordial World 825.

Lin Fan further identifies a conflict between an “Old Heavenly Dao,” which welcomes additional Foundations, and a “New Heavenly Dao,” which resists Foundations beyond a certain number. He interprets this as a struggle between two Heavenly Daos rather than a single Heavenly Dao acting inconsistently 880.

History

Silent Valley Contention

Fifth Zhongmou publicizes the discovery of a Foundation in Silent Valley, drawing First Sequence cultivators into his scheme. Lan Cai'er explains its world-altering value to Qi Zi·Fan, who chooses to pursue it despite recognizing Fifth Zhongmou's manipulation 736.

The expected barrier has already vanished when the contenders arrive. At the valley's end, they discover a glowing eggshell woven from Dao Principles and Divine Runes, suggesting that a compatible person has already activated or acquired the Foundation 746. When the shell breaks, Ji Chutong emerges, provoking a lethal struggle among the gathered First Sequences 747.

Ji Chutong later employs the Foundation with her Innate Dao Body against Li Xiuyuan, allowing her to temporarily restrain him and erase the imprint on his protective Magical Treasure 750.

Return to the Cultivation World

After the Myriad Realms Probing, Qi Zi·Fan returns as a Red Dust Immortal with a Foundation of Heavenly Dao. The three Red Dust Immortals confronting Mo Daolin immediately recognize the implication of his sudden advancement and target him for it 760.
