The Black Dragon lived for at least tens of thousands of years and visited Cloud Dream Marsh roughly ten thousand years before the present era. In its prime, it was known as the Black Dragon Venerable and possessed cultivation far beyond the limits it later displayed on the Taiyu Divine Continent. 368 390 796

By the time Yang Chan reached Taiyin Heaven, the Black Dragon existed only as a massive Soul Body imprisoned by chains at the top of a high tower. Facing dissipation, it tried to entice Yang Chan with the Xuantian Divine Lord's legacy, then threatened him when he refused to take it away. Yang Chan instead wore down its Soul Body with concealed weapons, whose attacks depleted the dragon's remaining lifespan. 365 371
