Background / History

Lucy was an orphan with no nationality, raised in Arasaka facilities outside Night City. Arasaka trained her and other orphans to become hackers under the promise of serving the corporation, then used them as expendable deep-divers in the Old Net. Her companions were killed by rogue AIs and viruses during repeated infiltrations. 38

Realizing that Arasaka's imposed dream was meaningless, Lucy escaped the facility with the remaining children. More companions died during the breakout; Lucy fled alone through multiple countries and regions before reaching Night City. To survive and avoid Arasaka's pursuit, she sold her original Arasaka implants and relied on cheaper counterfeit cyberware. 38 66

Homeless and without contacts in Night City, Lucy was found by Su Xiao. He rented her an apartment in Japantown and transferred 20,000 Eurodollars for living expenses. Though grateful, Lucy remained wary of his motives because of her past. 37 45

Before formally joining the team, she supported herself by stealing neural chips from passengers on the skyrail. Seeing Su Xiao during one such theft made her abandon a lucrative target and hide from him out of guilt. 42 43

Lucy initially dreamed of escaping to the Moon, believing Earth could never be safe from Arasaka. After experiencing a simulated Moon trip with Su Xiao, she agreed to join his team as its electronic warfare specialist on the condition that he would not probe into her secrets. 45 46

She later disclosed her Arasaka past and the corporation's pursuit to Su Xiao. His promise to protect her and keep her secrets fundamentally changed how she viewed both the team and her dream of leaving for the Moon. 86 87

Appearance

Lucy is a young woman with short white or silver-white hair, fair skin, and gem-like eyes. Her cyberware is integral to her appearance, particularly the deep-dive interface at the back of her head and the personal connection cable deployed from her wrist. 66 87 111 340

  • Short white hair, often tucked behind one ear 66 83
  • Eyes glow red while hacking; her cybernetic eye can also display sapphire-blue light 95 329
  • Wears a white netrunner cooling suit when using a hacker chair 111
  • Uses a deep-dive interface directly linked to her cerebral cortex 86
  • Has a wrist-mounted personal connection cable for direct neural and system access 48 74

Personality

Lucy is guarded, cautious, and slow to trust. Her fear of hacker chairs, deep-diving, and revealing personal information stems directly from Arasaka's exploitation of her as a child. Even after accepting Su Xiao's help, she initially keeps emotional distance and refuses to explain her past. 45 86 111

Under pressure, she is composed, decisive, and often ruthless. She can calmly eliminate threats, enter hostile neural networks, and intimidate witnesses when operational secrecy is at stake. 74 216 217

Her reserve softens around people she accepts as companions. She grows close to V, cares about Su Xiao's wellbeing, and develops a particularly strong emotional attachment to Su Xiao after he accepts her past without judgment. 87 195 267

Abilities & Skills

Netrunning and Electronic Warfare

Lucy is a highly trained netrunner capable of infiltrating subnets, disabling security systems, extracting intelligence, and directly accessing neural implants. She survived multiple incursions into the Old Net and has reached the Black Wall. 38 74 343

  • Hacks surveillance cameras, automatic doors, gates, elevators, turrets, and drones. 53 95 97 218 343
  • Enters gang subnets to retrieve operational intelligence, including the Tiger Claws Gang's transport information. 111 112
  • Cracks safes, locked computers, and protected websites. 101 340 343
  • Directly accesses cyberbrains to extract information or disable neural implants. 48 103 210 216
  • Can remotely disable cybernetic eyes and interfere with hostile systems during combat. 103 157
  • Used the Riot Control Unit's subnet to call reinforcements when conventional communications were jammed. 99 100

Her abilities are not without cost. Deep-diving through ICE and extracting protected data can exhaust her physically, while hacker chairs trigger traumatic memories of Arasaka's Old Net operations. 111

Cyberware and Defensive Systems

Lucy possesses several specialized hacker implants, though many of her earlier implants were counterfeit replacements acquired while fleeing Arasaka. 66

  • Four Phases Transmission Ripple Type 4 — Fourth-generation hacker cyberware used to bypass the Tiger Claws Gang's ICE. 111
  • Master Kong network access module — An overclocked counterfeit module with performance comparable to genuine third-generation cyberware. 74
  • Pathfinder 3 cybernetic eye — Allows scans and rapid intrusion into nearby electronic systems. 221
  • Offensive Firewall — Neutralized a neuro-virus that attempted to attack her through Sandra Dorset's cyberbrain. 147
  • Deep-dive interface — High-capacity neural port that enables deeper access and higher data-transfer rates in cyberspace. 86

Combat

Although not physically enhanced to the same degree as the team's heavy fighters, Lucy is dangerous in close quarters and can combine cyberwarfare with lethal weapon use. Her physique prevents her from effectively wielding oversized weapons such as the L-69 Zhuo smart shotgun. 74 95 258

  • Monofilament Wire — Uses an ultra-sharp wire to disable or decapitate opponents at close range. 73 74
  • Pyrokinetic ability — Ignited a Law Enforcement Group member from a distance during the rescue of Chihana. 73
  • Firearms — Used an Incense Tech Submachine Gun in charged mode and a smart pistol during the Eden Gang conflict. 95
  • Cyberware disruption — Can reboot cybernetic eyes, overheat implants, and remotely compromise opponents' systems. 103 218

Emergency Cybernetic Treatment

Lucy can diagnose and stabilize cybernetic patients through direct neural access.

  • Stopped Chihana's bleeding, administered Revival-Kang Type 3 injectors, and cleared a neuro-virus from her neural network. 74 75
  • Identified and removed a signal-blocking chip from Sandra Dorset's neural expansion port, allowing her emergency signal to transmit. 147
  • Disabled a hidden cyberbrain self-destruct program during the examination of Gustavo's neural data. 394
