Chapters 1–25 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1Survival Game Era

Moss recalled her previous life as a human and realized she had been reincarnated as a young female rat in a sewer. After learning about Blue Star’s World Gates and the Law of Survival Games, she faced the strange new world with her memories restored.

  • Moss awakened her memories among a group of young sewer rats and remembered dying after being hit by a truck.
  • Moss despaired over reincarnating as a female rat and tried to throw herself into a soft pile of discarded cloth.
  • Moss heard the words “Survival Game Awakening,” panicked in midair, and fell face-first onto the ground.
  • Moss learned that World Gates had brought monsters to Blue Star and disabled advanced technology.
  • Moss recalled that Blue Star’s Law of Survival Games had empowered humans to fight back, ushering in the Survival Game Era.

Ch. 2Two Panels

Moss learned how jobs, levels, and ranks worked under the Law of Survival Games, then discovered she had a second, locked human panel. She resolved to find a way to become human again and opened her Golden Finger talent to inspect its description.

  • Moss read her game panel and learned how jobs, talents, levels, job changes, and ranks worked.
  • Moss accidentally swiped her panel and revealed a second panel for Moss whose values were too low to unlock.
  • Moss guessed that raising her Physique and Spirit might unlock her human panel, but realized her short lifespan left her little time.
  • Moss decided to pursue becoming human again and opened the description of her Golden Finger talent.

Ch. 3Black Rat Horde Attack

Moss accidentally chose Warrior instead of Mage when a rat’s scream startled her, just as a Black Rat horde attacked the sewer. She fled through the tunnels, but after stumbling upon Black Rats eating dead pups, she drew their attention and they pursued her.

  • Moss decided she wanted to choose Mage, but a rat’s scream made her accidentally select Warrior.
  • A bloodied rat warned the tunnel’s pups that enemies had arrived, and Black Rats invaded, killing several of them.
  • Moss hid, then fled with the pups through another tunnel as Black Rats overwhelmed the sewer.
  • Moss escaped into the sewer but saw the Black Rat horde fighting the adult rats and attacking the pups.
  • Moss ran back into the tunnel, found Black Rats feeding on dead pups, and dry-heaved loudly enough to attract them.
  • Moss sprinted deeper into the tunnel, and the Black Rats chased after her.

Ch. 4Golden Finger

Moss fled Black Rats through the tunnels, awakening her Golden Finger talent as she fought off the last pursuer. Injured and exhausted, she crawled into another sewer and fell asleep in a dark corner.

  • Moss used her heightened senses and knowledge of the tunnels to evade most of the Black Rats chasing her.
  • Moss chose a narrow passage at a crossroads, but the last Black Rat wounded her hind leg and caught her in its jaws.
  • Moss stabbed the Black Rat in the eye, triggering her Golden Finger talent and upgrading her Claws to Claws I.
  • Moss used her newly empowered claws to destroy the Black Rat's other eye and kill it.
  • Moss dragged her injured leg deeper into the sewer and fell asleep in a dark corner.

Ch. 5Talent Effects

Moss woke in a cave with her injured leg healed and discovered that her Golden Finger could create and improve talents. She drank poisoned sewer water and ate rotten meat to recover, then returned to her hollow wishing to escape the filthy sewer.

  • Moss woke to talent notifications, found her leg healed, and checked her panel to see several talents had improved.
  • Moss realized her Golden Finger could construct talents from skills and actions and increase their levels.
  • Moss followed dripping water through the cave to a quieter sewer and drank wastewater, gaining Poison Resistance.
  • Moss ate rotten meat to regain strength and gained Omnivory and further Poison Resistance.
  • Moss crawled back into her hollow and vowed she never wanted to eat filthy garbage again.

Ch. 6Fresh Food

Moss left her cave to hunt for fresh food and killed a Giant Centipede, then encountered a glowing slime. She ate the centipede despite its awful taste and gained progress in Jump.

  • Moss emerged from the cave to hunt, hoping to find fresh food.
  • A Giant Centipede attacked Moss, but she dodged its strikes and killed it with her claws and a stomp.
  • Moss found a small, glowing slime and examined it before preparing to eat her prey.
  • Moss tore off the Giant Centipede's head and ate its body, discovering that it tasted awful.
  • Moss received notifications for Omnivory and Poison Resistance and gained Jump progress to 56%.

Ch. 7Slime Research

Moss played with a Slime, tested its physical resilience and recovery, and spent twelve days studying Slimes around her cave. After recording her findings, she used Golden Finger to construct the Detection talent.

  • Moss subdued the Slime and discovered that its physical strength exceeded her own, making her wary of stronger monsters beyond the sewer.
  • Moss examined the Slime’s shape and texture, then found that it healed rapidly after being scratched and could withstand physical attacks by consuming its magic power.
  • Moss frightened the Slime into staying still and continued investigating its abilities over the following twelve days.
  • Moss observed twenty-six Slimes near her cave and recorded notes about their size, diet, bodily structure, habitat, and suspected weaknesses.
  • Moss activated Golden Finger and constructed the Detection talent.

Ch. 8Magic Research

Moss recounted her research into Magic Power and the battle that overturned her conclusions after a giant Slime swallowed her. Trapped inside and out of Magic Power, she discovered Breath Holding could still activate, then upgraded Claws and prepared to fight back.

  • Moss estimated that her Magic Power came from Mental Force and that she had ten points of it, enough for ten uses of Claws.
  • Two days earlier, Moss fought a huge Slime near a puddle and was swallowed after it tripped her with a tentacle.
  • Inside the Slime, Moss gained improvements to Omnivore, Poison Resistance, and Corrosion Resistance, but her repeated Claws attacks drained her Magic Power.
  • As Moss began to lose consciousness, Breath Holding activated despite her depleted energy and cleared her mind.
  • Moss realized her earlier conclusions about Magic Power might be wrong, upgraded Claws to Claws II, and activated it inside the Slime.

Ch. 9Mana Essence

After nearly dying from activating a Talent with depleted Magic Power, Moss spent two days revising her understanding of how supernatural power worked and named its underlying substance Mana Essence. She confirmed her theory with Detection, then discovered that Little Ball had more Mana Essence than she did, leaving her puzzled about how Mana Essence related to Constitution.

  • Moss survived the Slime mucus's corrosive effects and found that she could still activate Talents after her Magic Power was depleted, though doing so caused severe dizziness.
  • Moss returned to the cave, sent Little Ball outside, and spent two days studying her observations and experiments.
  • Moss concluded that Talents used Mana Essence, a substance distinct from Magic Power, which regulated how much Mana Essence a creature could safely use.
  • Moss used Detection on Little Ball and saw that it had 21 Mana Essence, then checked herself and found she had 20.
  • Moss wondered how Mana Essence related to Constitution and recalled that the Slime's corpse had vanished before she could examine it, then fell asleep on Little Ball.

Ch. 10150 Days!

Over 150 days in the sewers, Moss hunted monsters, researched Slimes, and developed many talents while raising Little Ball. She finally reached Bronze Level 2 and resolved to accelerate her progress.

  • Moss tracked her days on the cave wall as she hunted increasingly dangerous prey, improved her talents, and moved deeper into the sewers with Little Ball.
  • By Day One Hundred, Moss completed her Slime research and concluded that Mana Essence, a soul, and other factors formed monsters; her research also awakened Detection and a developing Slime-focused talent.
  • Little Ball became Moss’s pet, unlocked a pet space, and began communicating with her telepathically, while Moss set new research goals.
  • By Day One Hundred Twenty-Five, Moss had expanded her abilities through relentless hunting and refined her use of magic power.
  • On Day One Hundred Fifty, Moss leveled up to Bronze Level 2, saw her Physique and Spirit double, and decided to pick up the pace.

Ch. 11Winter Is Coming

After unlocking Meditation Body Refinement, Moss realized winter was approaching and decided to leave her cold sewer habitat in search of a warmer place with more reliable food. She packed her belongings into Little Ball’s storage space, destroyed her research notes, and set out without knowing where to go.

  • Moss spent her first Job Point on Meditation Body Refinement and learned she could improve her Spirit and Constitution through training.
  • Moss noticed the cold and realized she had forgotten to prepare for winter, which would make food harder to find in the sewers.
  • Moss decided to move, then packed a few valuables, maps, and candies for the journey.
  • Moss used Little Ball’s Pet Space to store her belongings and discovered she could use the Slime as storage.
  • Moss destroyed her Slime research notes, relying on her Monster Research: Slime Talent to preserve the knowledge, then wondered where to move.

Ch. 12Return Home

Moss set out through the sewers to return to her old nest, which she hoped would provide warmth and food for the winter. After resting at the sewer exit and noticing Little Ball had grown from absorbing Mana Essence, Moss leaped toward the underground river below.

  • Moss decided her former nest was the best nearby place to spend the winter and traveled toward it through the sewers.
  • Moss caught and ate a little lizard along the way, then reached the sewer exit overlooking the underground river.
  • Moss rested at the exit with Little Ball standing guard and activated Hibernation III.
  • While Moss slept, Little Ball absorbed Mana Essence and grew about one centimeter.
  • Moss woke, noticed Little Ball had grown, and set off again by jumping from the sewer exit toward the river.

Ch. 13Encountering the Black Rats Again

Moss fought and killed three giant toads that attacked her as she climbed out of the river, then continued upstream. She encountered a large swarm of injured Black Rats bearing burn marks and suspected a powerful fire-wielding magical beast was responsible.

  • Moss swam through the rapids and evaded the three giant toads’ tongues as she emerged from the river.
  • Moss killed all three toads with a rapid combination of claw strikes and Mana Release, then ate some of their meat.
  • Moss stored the remaining toad meat with Little Ball and continued upstream, estimating she needed to pass five tributaries.
  • Moss stopped when she encountered a huge swarm of sickly Black Rats with burn injuries and suspected a powerful fire-wielding magical beast had attacked them.

Ch. 14Monster Tribe

Moss encountered a massive group of Black Rats fleeing from an unknown force and suspected that a Monster Tribe, including a fire-attributed monster, had appeared in the sewers. After hiding and traveling cautiously through worsening cold, she reached the entrance to the sewer where she was born.

  • Moss watched nearly three hundred Black Rats approach and reasoned that something more powerful than them had driven out their larger group.
  • Moss suspected a Monster Tribe was responsible and worried that a fire-attributed monster could ignite methane in the sewers.
  • Moss used Breath Holding, Stealth, and Climbing to hide above the passage as the Black Rats rushed past.
  • Moss decided to investigate the unknown monsters and spent five days traveling cautiously to conserve her Magic Power and stamina.
  • Moss endured a sharp drop in temperature, then hurried onward with Little Ball and reached the entrance to her old home.

Ch. 15Battle Black Rat Again

Moss reached the warm sewer near her former home and fought a pack of badly wounded Black Rats, killing nearly half before driving the survivors away. After washing up and reflecting on her mana limits and talent combinations, she spotted a fiery-red monster beside the waterway.

  • Moss found the elevated waterway near her former home and was surrounded by injured Black Rats.
  • Moss used Pressure Impact to repel the rats, then dodged an attack and killed one with her Claws.
  • Moss unleashed Blade Hail, killing nearly half the pack, and ordered the remaining Black Rats to flee.
  • Moss bathed in the waterway and concluded that she needed to train Mana Enhancement because her mana was limited.
  • Moss returned to the shore and spotted a fiery-red monster that she wondered might be a Salamander.

Ch. 16Salamander

Moss discovered a group of powerful Fire Lizards in the sewer and suspected they had come from the city above. As she tried to retreat, she heard humans approaching and speaking Mandarin.

  • Moss followed the warm sewer toward her former home and found signs that a powerful monster had killed hundreds of Black Rats.
  • Moss spotted a red-glowing creature and identified it as a Fire Lizard with Silver Rank 3 strength.
  • Moss used Detection and saw the Fire Lizard had powerful attributes and skills.
  • Several smaller Fire Lizards joined the larger one, leading Moss to conclude that a Monster Tribe had entered the sewer from above.
  • Moss began retreating but heard approaching footsteps and humans speaking Mandarin.

Ch. 17Three People

Luo Wei, Huo Lian, and rookie Sun Lei searched the sewers for Flame Marsh Lizards while joking about Sun Lei’s mistakes and Luo Wei’s lost day off with his daughter. The three climbed into a hotter section, where Luo Wei explained that cooling wastewater from the city’s Mana Circuits could spawn monsters.

  • Huo Lian complained about the sewer as Sun Lei apologized for letting five Flame Marsh Lizards escape, and Luo Wei teased him about the failed mission.
  • Luo Wei revealed that he had missed a day with his daughter, Xiao Ya, because Sun Lei’s mistake forced him back onto the team.
  • Luo Wei led Huo Lian and Sun Lei toward a ladder, and they noticed the sewer growing hotter and more foul-smelling.
  • Luo Wei explained that wastewater cooling the city’s Mithril Mana Circuits flowed into the sewers and could cause monsters to form.
  • Huo Lian told Sun Lei that sewer-clearing work was common knowledge among Awakened Ones, and Sun Lei admitted he had slept through class.

Ch. 18Battle

Huo Lian, Luo Wei, and Sun Lei battled five Flame Marsh Lizards in the sewer, but the Silver Rank monster escaped into a river. Huo Lian tracked it with Flash Dust and chased it with Luo Wei, leaving Sun Lei to handle the remaining monsters and reflect on his mistakes.

  • Huo Lian used Shadow Stealth to reach the Flame Marsh Lizards first, then blinded them with bombs and killed one with a poisoned sword strike.
  • Luo Wei and Sun Lei joined the fight, but Sun Lei struck a Flame Marsh Lizard's neck and was nearly hit by its Explosive Flame attack before Luo Wei pulled him clear.
  • Luo Wei fought the Silver Rank Flame Marsh Lizard while Huo Lian killed three Bronze Rank ones and blinded the stronger monster with Flash Dust.
  • The Silver Rank Flame Marsh Lizard escaped into the river, and Huo Lian and Luo Wei pursued the glowing Flash Dust while assigning Sun Lei to finish the remaining monsters.
  • Sun Lei began dealing with the monsters and regretted his nervous mistakes in the fight.

Ch. 19A Magic Core

Moss secretly stole a Magic Core from a burned Flame Marsh Lizard while Sun Lei collected the other remains, then followed him to watch Luo Wei and Huo Lian finish off another lizard. As Sun Lei began processing the new corpse, Luo Wei started telling him about his Spirit Sword Sect entrance test.

  • Sun Lei recovered two Magic Cores while processing the Flame Marsh Lizards, and Moss secretly sent Little Ball to steal one from the charred corpse.
  • Sun Lei left to catch up with Luo Wei and Huo Lian after a distant explosion, while Moss activated Stealth and followed him.
  • Luo Wei killed the fleeing Flame Marsh Lizard with a powerful sword strike, and Huo Lian teased him about failing the Spirit Sword Sect entrance test.
  • Sun Lei began cutting apart the dead lizard, and Moss listened as he asked Luo Wei to describe the entrance test.

Ch. 20Sect

Luo Wei explained the sect examinations and the lethal duty sect members faced defending the borders, while Sun Lei learned how far ordinary candidates fell short of the chosen geniuses. The group left the sewer with their gathered materials, unaware that a green-eyed watcher and a Slime had remained behind.

  • Sun Lei named the four sects and their basic professions, and Huo Lian explained that recommendations and exceptional talent were required to take the examinations.
  • Luo Wei described the Qi Cultivators’ dangerous mission at the border World Gates and recalled failing to measure up at his own sect examination.
  • Luo Wei recounted the extraordinary Bronze Rank feats of past examination candidates, and Huo Lian described a Blacksmith whose achievement sparked a dispute between sect elders.
  • Luo Wei encouraged Sun Lei to attend next year’s examination to see the wider world, then led the group back with their collected monster materials.
  • A green-eyed watcher observed the group leave as a Slime swallowed the severed Flame Marsh Lizard and disappeared.

Ch. 21Special Profession Acquisition Methods

Moss returned to the cave where she had first crossed over, reflected on the world’s special professions, and prepared a new home. After eating the Flame Marsh Lizard’s Magic Core, she activated her Golden Finger talent and began constructing Flame Manipulation.

  • Moss returned to her original cave and pieced together what she had learned about the Adventurer's Guild, City Guard, sect, and Qi Cultivators.
  • Moss concluded that special professions came from different cultivation methods and decided that researching how to absorb Mana Essence would be important after reaching Silver Rank.
  • Moss thanked the three people who had helped her, sent Little Ball to guard the entrance, and expanded the cave into a larger chamber.
  • Moss summoned the Flame Marsh Lizard’s corpse, her belongings, and its Magic Core from her Pet Space.
  • Moss bit into the Magic Core, which vanished and triggered her Golden Finger, beginning the construction of Flame Manipulation while warning that she needed more energy.

Ch. 22Crisis and Opportunity

Moss nearly died when her Golden Finger tried to absorb the Flame Marsh Lizard’s mana, but Little Ball fed her its slime and she survived by devouring the lizard. Her talents evolved and she leveled up before falling asleep safely with Little Ball.

  • Moss’s Golden Finger consumed her magical essence while trying to convert the Flame Marsh Lizard’s mana, leaving her dangerously weak and ravenously hungry.
  • Little Ball gave Moss its mana-rich slime, shrinking as Moss gulped it down and regained enough strength to move.
  • Moss tore into the Flame Marsh Lizard and ate more than half of it, replenishing her magical essence as her talents evolved.
  • Moss gained the Glutton talent, activated Hibernation, and reached Bronze Level 3.
  • Little Ball used its body as a bed for the sleeping Moss, and the pair spent the night safely in the cave.

Ch. 23Changes After Awakening

Moss awakened after a long sleep and reunited with Little Ball, who had watched over and nourished her throughout it. Their bond deepened, but Moss was startled to discover that her body and voice had changed.

  • Little Ball kept watch outside the cave, fed Moss water, and absorbed magic essence while she slept.
  • A level-up notification awakened Moss from her dreams, and she realized she had returned to reality.
  • Little Ball excitedly welcomed Moss, who thanked it for saving her and embraced it as family.
  • Moss's Slime Affinity talent changed to Slime Affinity I.
  • Moss stood up and discovered that her voice, fur, body shape, limbs, and claws had changed.

Ch. 24Talent Effects 2

Moss discovered that consuming the magic core had transformed her into an adorable, fluffy creature, then found that her Golden Finger had gained the ability to plunder and adapt talents. She wondered if the power would let her become the ultimate life-form.

  • Moss used Little Ball's glow and a pool of water to inspect her changed appearance, then reacted with disbelief and laughter as she accepted how cute she looked.
  • Moss checked her status panel and saw that her level and several talents had increased, including the new Glutton talent.
  • Moss scrolled through countless notifications and found that Golden Finger had activated Talent Plunder and Adaptation, causing a full-body structural adjustment.
  • Moss read that Golden Finger could optimize talents and seize abilities from other species while adapting them to her body.
  • Moss wondered whether she would become the ultimate life-form that surpassed every species.

Ch. 25Time and Talent

After waking in her cave, Moss discovered that nearly three years had passed without her body aging, and suspected her talents had extended her lifespan. She then tested her new Flame Manipulation talent and used Mana Release to try to create fire.

  • Moss found the Fire Lizard's bones and scales decayed, but the cave's winter chill made her doubt she had slept for years.
  • Little Ball showed Moss more than two hundred tally marks on the cave wall, revealing that it had recorded over two years of days.
  • Moss checked her body and found it still young and healthy, then guessed her talent had increased her lifespan.
  • Moss decided she no longer needed to risk herself rushing to become stronger, though she still wanted to become human.
  • Moss learned that Flame Manipulation could control existing flames but could not generate them on its own.
  • Moss activated Mana Release · Flame, attempting to produce fire with her magic power.
