Sun Lei laughed and reached out, wanting to stroke Moss's snow-white fur again.
But how could Moss possibly let Sun Lei touch her body?!
"Meow!" (Don't touch me, you pervert!)
Smack!
Moss swatted his hand away with a paw, flicked her tail, then turned and elegantly walked toward the small bag on the ground.
"Uh..."
Sun Lei looked at his swatted-away hand and smiled awkwardly.
His gaze followed Moss as she walked over to the small bag containing the magic cores and pawed at it a few times.
Sun Lei could not help asking:
"Do you need me to tie it onto you?"
Upon hearing this, Moss stopped and turned to glance at Sun Lei. Her tail swayed lightly, but she gave no other response.
"Oh... alright, then."
So she did not need help...
Sun Lei rubbed his nose and smiled. For some reason, he had somehow understood what Moss meant.
He suddenly grew curious about how Moss planned to carry all those magic cores.
Moss pawed at the bag, confirming the number of magic cores inside. Once she was sure there were no mistakes, she began summoning Little Ball.
Puyo!
"Hm?"
The smile on Sun Lei's face instantly froze as he stared in shock at the slime that had suddenly appeared beside Moss!
A slime?!
Why had a slime appeared?
Sun Lei watched in utter disbelief as Moss directed the slime to swallow the magic cores, then watched as the slime suddenly vanished!
"This... spatial ability?!"
Sun Lei's eyes widened. What he had just seen completely exceeded his imagination!
He had never expected Moss to possess the power to manipulate space!
As the saying went, time reigned supreme, while space ruled as king!
Time and space were both incredibly rare and powerful abilities!
In all of Dragon Country, the number of beings capable of controlling either of those two powers could be counted on one hand!
And now, right before his eyes, was a magical creature capable of using spatial abilities!
What kind of magical creature is Little Moss, exactly?
Sun Lei stared blankly at Moss as she slowly walked toward him after putting away the magic cores, his mind feeling somewhat muddled.
"Meow!" (What are you standing around for? Let's go!)
Moss stood before Sun Lei. Seeing that he was still staring blankly, she could not help reminding him.
"Huh? Oh, right..."
Sun Lei snapped back to his senses, quickly nodded, and said to Moss:
"Little Moss, let's get going!"
"Meow!"
Moss called out to Sun Lei, then lightly leaped onto his shoulder and firmly sprawled there.
"Oh!"
Sun Lei was startled by Moss's movement, but quickly calmed down.
If Moss had wanted to harm him, she would have already done so while he was unconscious.
So Sun Lei merely glanced at Moss on his shoulder before beginning to observe the surroundings.
Seeing this, Moss cooperatively brightened the flames a little and raised them higher!
Though it was still somewhat dim, Sun Lei could now clearly see the surroundings.
He raised his head to look at the large hole above and softly said:
"So I fell from up there... Looks like I'll have to find a way back up."
Sun Lei turned to Moss, pointed upward, and asked:
"Little Moss, do you know how we can get up there?"
"Meow!" (Of course I do!)
Moss nodded proudly. Her exploration skills were not to be underestimated—the sewer routes around here were firmly etched in her mind!
Even though the sewers had changed somewhat because of the Realm Gate, they were largely still the same!
Moss stretched out her hand and pointed ahead, signaling Sun Lei to move forward.
Seeing this, Sun Lei's face lit up with joy, and he hurried in the direction Moss had indicated.
Moss also controlled the flames to fly ahead, lighting the path before Sun Lei.
"Wait, what's that...?"
Before he had taken more than a few steps, Sun Lei's eyes suddenly caught a flash of light. He quickly fixed his gaze in that direction.
What he saw was a shattered corpse!
The corpse's broken metal armor gleamed with a cold metallic sheen in the firelight. It was standard City Guard armor!
The corpse looked extremely familiar, and a wave of sorrow suddenly rose in Sun Lei's heart!
This dead guard had been one of those who had died earlier. Though Sun Lei did not know him, he could not help feeling grief.
Sun Lei silently reached out and closed the man's unshut eyes.
He gently removed the tag from the man's neck and carefully placed it in his clothes.
"I'm sorry!"
Sun Lei softly apologized as he took the longsword clenched tightly in the corpse's hand.
The longsword showed some signs of damage, but it was still far better than fighting bare-handed!
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Sun Lei stood up and swung the longsword twice, getting used to its feel.
He glanced at the corpse on the ground, then continued onward.
Drip... drip...
Drops of water ran down the edges of the rocks and fell into the puddles below.
The faint sound seemed especially distinct in the dark, silent sewers.
In those pitch-black sewers, that dim flicker of fire was also incredibly conspicuous!
Sun Lei and Moss had been walking through the sewers for nearly two hours. They were now sitting on a rock, taking a short rest.
"Two hours already..."
Sun Lei took out his pocket watch, checked the time, and muttered.
"It should be nighttime outside by now. I wonder how the City Guard is doing."
"I wonder how Captain Wang Xian is doing too. Did he manage to lead the guards to safety?"
Grrr...
As he spoke, Sun Lei suddenly heard his stomach let out a strange growl.
He rubbed his stomach, pulled an energy bar from his clothes, and took a bite.
But its extremely rough texture, combined with the thirst caused by the lack of water, made Sun Lei feel as if his throat had been cut by knives.
Moss squatted nearby. Seeing Sun Lei's pained expression, she could not help laughing inwardly.
She put down the energy bar in her hand, went over to Sun Lei, and tugged on his clothes.
"Hm? What is it, Little Moss?"
Feeling his clothes being tugged, Sun Lei lowered his head and asked Moss.
Moss did not explain much. She merely summoned a battered water flask and pointed at it, signaling for Sun Lei to take it.
Sun Lei picked up the flask and felt its weight. He could not help asking in delight, "Water? Is this for me?"
"Moss!"
Moss nodded, signaling for Sun Lei to drink quickly.
With Moss's confirmation, Sun Lei no longer cared whether the water was clean or not. He raised the flask and began drinking straight from it!
Gulp... gulp...
"Hah... That tastes good!"
Sun Lei let out a long breath. He felt like parched land being nourished, his body once again filled with vitality!
"Thank you, Little Moss."
"Moss!"
Moss shook her head. It was only a flask of water; compared to those magic cores, it was nothing.
"How much longer until we reach the surface?"
Holding the flask in his hand, Sun Lei quietly asked Moss.
"Moss..."
Moss hesitated for a moment without answering. She wasn't entirely sure herself.
After all, the surrounding environment had grown larger, and she had no idea just how much bigger the area nearby had become.
Still, Moss patted her chest, declaring with confidence that she could definitely lead him up there!
Seeing Moss's expression, Sun Lei couldn't help but laugh. He nodded as if he understood.
He stood up and held out his hand to Moss.
"Is that so... Then let's keep going!"
