Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as Yu Yuanzhen’s son. His Martial Soul was derided by clan members as a mutation “from a dragon to a dog,” and the clan treated him as an expelled outsider rather than family 83 84.

Although he was not formally a teacher at Nuoding Academy, he was widely called “Master.” He encountered Tang San and Tang Jiu while handling their enrollment, immediately identified Tang San as a Twin Martial Soul user, and offered to accept both boys as disciples 10. Tang Jiu formally declared that no one else was qualified to teach him 12.

Master had previously been in love with Bibi Dong. Little Jiu later reveals that Bibi Dong had been coerced by Qian Xunji into bearing Qian Renxue under threats against Yu Xiaogang; Master believed she had abandoned him and left without investigating the circumstances 445.

Appearance

Master is described as having a face resembling that of an ascetic monk 10.

Master is intensely scholarly and takes pride in his understanding of Martial Souls, Soul Rings, and combat theory. He evaluates students’ Martial Souls, Soul Skills, personalities, combat aptitude, and overall strength before tailoring their training 113.

He is protective of his disciples and willing to endanger himself for them. He accepted Zhang Hong’s Spirit Duel in part to learn the opponent’s Soul Skills for Tang Jiu, despite being badly outmatched 30. When the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan offered to restore his status in exchange for Tang Jiu’s Soul Bone, he refused outright 84.

His loyalty is compromised by his attachment to Tang San. When forced to choose between Tang San and Liu Erlong, he abandons Liu Erlong, devastating her and ending his bond with Flender 447 448.

Taking Tang San and Tang Jiu as Disciples

Master took Tang San and Tang Jiu under his guidance after recognizing their extraordinary Martial Souls. He explained Tang Jiu’s potential for self-Martial Soul Fusion and began training him in a specialized Beast Spirit cultivation method 10 11 16.

Nuoding Academy Conflicts

He guided the brothers through early Soul Beast hunts and relied on Tang Jiu’s Spirit Ring Martial Soul to help Tang San obtain the Mandala Snake Soul Ring 19. He also used Tang Jiu’s restriction ability to obtain his own Thousand-Year third Soul Ring 22.

When Zhang Hong threatened Tang Jiu, Master accepted a Spirit Duel despite knowing he was weaker. Tang Jiu arrived in time to defeat Zhang Hong and protect him 30.

Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan Dispute

Master returned to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan with Tang Jiu to demand the return of a Ten Thousand-Year Soul Bone stolen by Yu Tianlei’s group. He rejected the clan’s offer to restore his membership if it required surrendering Tang Jiu’s possession, then supported Tang Jiu’s decision to fight Yu Chen for the Soul Bone 84.

Shrek Academy Training

Master became responsible for Shrek Academy’s special training, intending to assess every student before creating individual cultivation plans 113. His reputation as Tang San and Tang Jiu’s teacher caused the students to regard his theories as a path to becoming stronger 113.

Conflict with Bibi Dong and Death

Master later attempted to secure information from Bibi Dong regarding Twin Martial Soul cultivation while insisting Tang San would not oppose Martial Soul Hall. Bibi Dong rejected him, viewing him as self-righteous and untrustworthy 320 321.

Little Jiu later abducted Master after he interfered in Tang San’s conflict with Martial Soul Hall 444. During the final confrontation, Master arrived under orders from the Asura God and was forced to choose whether Tang San or Liu Erlong would live; he chose Tang San 447 448. He subsequently died after being emotionally broken by Bibi Dong and Little Jiu’s manipulation 450.
