On the surveillance screen.
Babimayna stood with a calm expression, hands behind his back, perfectly still as though standing at military attention.
Dago and the others did not have that kind of composure. Some sat there with frustrated looks on their faces, while others angrily kicked and stomped on the Divine Characters inside their cabins...
Allantrail pressed the intercom button. "Stop kicking. You'll have to pay if you break anything."
"It's you?"
"Hey! What's going on here? Let us out!"
"What exactly did you do to us?"
"Why were we forcibly put into Zetsu? Why can't we use Nen Abilities?!"
Dago and the others shouted at the speakers transmitting Allantrail's voice into their respective cabins. It was no wonder they had lost their composure. After entering Zetsu—especially being forced into Zetsu—they were even more "fragile" than ordinary people. Even if ordinary people could not control the Aura naturally leaking from their bodies, they at least had a faint layer of Aura around them. After being forcibly put into Zetsu, these people had literally zero protection. They did not feel safe at all.
Babimayna, still standing at attention in his cabin, glanced at the surveillance camera in the corner.
Ignoring their complaints and questions, Allantrail kept the intercom button pressed and continued, "I'm sure you know that in recent years, rumors about the True Martial King Treasure have started circulating again. As a result, all sorts of strange people have come to this island after hearing half-true rumors to investigate. But as you can see, there is no treasure here, and I don't want to be disturbed all the time. You are all Nen Users too. The things in that tomb chamber are not suitable for public disclosure, correct?"
"So, after I count to three, any storage-capable devices on you, such as your phones, will be automatically formatted." After saying that, Allantrail released the intercom button. On the surveillance screen, Dago and the other amateur Hunters stared in stunned disbelief before their blood pressure began to rise, silently cursing at the camera.
Allantrail turned back. "You should probably delete the materials you recorded on your phones too."
"Don't worry." Menchi nodded.
Allantrail said, "Or you can use the materials we provide. They mainly cover the parts of the ancient tomb ruins unrelated to Nen Abilities. That should be enough for you to complete your assignment when you return."
"That works. Give me a copy too." Jing Yang nodded. "But there's a problem."
"What problem?"
"I don't have a phone."
Allantrail laughed. "That's easy. Our company has a phone development division as well. Since we happened to meet, and Shiro likes you all quite a bit, we'll give each of you one of our latest models."
Getting a new phone for free, Menchi was quite pleased despite never lacking money.
When she turned, she saw Shizuku staring curiously, which puzzled her. Shizuku asked Allantrail, "What is the True Martial King Treasure?"
"The True Martial King..."
Allantrail settled into his large office chair and interlaced his fingers. "As for Viggo Hui Guo Rou, who was active between four hundred and three hundred years ago, the mainstream assessment of him today is that he was a legendary king who nearly unified the entire Aizen Continent. However... according to the findings of Mr. Ging and myself, Viggo nearly unified all six continents in the world."
Jing Yang, whose mind was full of the Dark Continent, did not feel much upon hearing such earth-shattering words. Shizuku still wore her blank yet adorable expression. Only Menchi was shocked enough for her jaw to nearly drop.
Allantrail added, "Oh, saying he nearly unified the six continents is not quite accurate. More specifically, he truly did once intend to do so."
"Mr. Allantrail, you scared me!" Menchi complained. "So it was only an ambition he held..."
Allantrail shook his head. "It was not merely ambition. Based on the fragments we found in certain ruins, Viggo made thorough preparations back then and could have put them into action at any time. Mr. Ging also said that if Viggo had truly launched his plan back then, success would have been inevitable. In other words, if that had happened, we would all be Kakin people now."
"This is really..." Menchi did not know what to say. In the end, she could only say, "It's just too distant."
So distant that it was hard to feel any sense of reality. It was merely an exaggerated historical tale.
Shizuku asked curiously, "Then why didn't he do it in the end?"
"I don't know," Allantrail said. "The only thing we know is that right before he was about to act, he suddenly gave up on his own."
"Is that why he locked himself inside a tomb and started acting all mysterious?" Jing Yang asked.
"Perhaps," Allantrail said.
What do they mean, his later years were ominous?
Jing Yang could not help glancing sideways.
And with that glance, he saw Dago and the others on the surveillance screen, furious yet somewhat dejected...
"Was that really necessary? Was it really necessary?"
After finally being released one by one from the Ferris wheel cabins, Dago and the others had bloodshot eyes and cursed under their breaths, though not very loudly.
Jing Yang, Shizuku, and Menchi had just said farewell to Allantrail and arrived to find this scene.
"He should have already sent the prepared materials to your phones, right?" Menchi said, shaking her own phone. "We have them too. Don't worry, they're enough to complete the job."
"Is this about the materials? We had lots of personal information on our phones! He formatted all of it!"
"This is... way too much!"
Seeing that they wanted to curse loudly but still seemed hesitant, Jing Yang found it amusing. Even setting aside Allantrail's status as a top-tier expert and two-star Hunter from the Hunter Association, his identity as one of the world's wealthiest people was already enough to crush amateur Hunters like them, who merely scraped by for a living. In front of such an evil capitalist and powerful expert, Dago and the others did not even have the strength to curse properly.
In comparison, Babimayna appeared much calmer and more composed. Looking at Jing Yang's group, he asked, "Where did you go?"
Since they had not appeared on the Ferris wheel, there was clearly another exit from the tomb chamber.
"Oh, Mr. Allantrail's hospitality was impossible to refuse," Jing Yang said casually. "We chatted about some old Hunter Association stories. Ah, the past is gone with the wind. No need to mention it."
Although he had not actually lied, why did it feel like what he meant was somehow off? Menchi muttered to herself.
"Stop complaining. Hurry up and find the employer so we can collect our reward money!" Jing Yang said with a smile. "Shizuku, let's go!"
"What reward money? That sounds awful..."
"How can a Hunter's business be called reward money..."
Muttering to themselves, Dago and the others dejectedly followed Jing Yang, Shizuku, and Menchi. Babimayna remained behind for a while before suddenly turning back.
Behind a window at the top of the tower, Allantrail held up his wineglass in a distant toast.
Babimayna walked away expressionlessly.
Allantrail took a sip of wine, then gently swirled the glass in his hand.
Why did Ging believe that if Viggo had truly acted back then and sought to unify the six continents, he would certainly have succeeded?
Because Viggo had intended to use the full strength of Kakin to spread Nen Abilities throughout the entire nation, creating an invincible army of Nen Users and a powerful country that could sweep aside all opposition.
Kakin was already a major nation. Given the military standards of the world three or four hundred years ago, if he had truly succeeded in popularizing Nen Abilities across the country, he really might have achieved the grand feat of unifying the world.
Yet at the critical moment, Viggo gave up on his own, destroyed most records related to it, and became nearly insane in his later years.
This was also the part Allantrail found hardest to understand when he had explored ruins with Ging.
"What's so hard to understand?"
Ging, who had only been in his early twenties at the time, had said dismissively, "Because Nen Abilities can't be popularized the way he wanted."
"It's that simple?"
Allantrail, who had yet to establish Blanche Company, asked.
Ging smiled. "It's that simple!"
Allantrail did not understand. "But why? Why can't Nen Abilities be popularized among everyone?"
Ging stared at him with Dead Fish Eyes. "If you can't figure it out, then don't think about it!"
"Teacher." Allantrail simply looked at him.
But Ging avoided answering and gazed toward the distant horizon. "The answer is simple, and boring. So I don't want to say it!"
He turned back. The scarf around his head fluttered in the sea breeze. "Allan, I think anyone with the same breadth of vision will easily think of this boring answer..."
This True Martial King... Even Ging was willing to say that if he had acted, he really could have unified the six continents?
On the way to the home of Slooe, the balding young man in Ochima, Jing Yang thought, Could that guy's so-called thorough preparations three or four hundred years ago have been widespread promotion of Nen Abilities?
