Background

Nuwa shapeshifted in a secret realm on a side peak of Buzhou Mountain, while the Twelve Ancestor Witches originated from Pangu Hall on its main peak. Bai Chen staged an accident to secure her protection; Nuwa took him in as “Little White,” believing him to be Yuan Feng’s pet, and permitted him to reside in her dojo 1 2.

Her early years at Buzhou Mountain were defined by friction with the Witch Clan. When Xuanming attempted to claim Bai Chen, Nuwa summoned her accompanying treasure, the Primordial Holy Sword, and prepared to fight the Ancestor Witches before Houtu, Fuxi, and Bai Chen defused the confrontation 5 6. After the Dragon-Phoenix Calamity, the escalating conflict with the Witch Clan and her promise to Yuan Feng led Nuwa and Fuxi to relocate to Phoenix Perch Mountain; she also accepted responsibility for protecting the Phoenix Clan 5 30.

Personality

Nuwa is protective of those she considers her own, particularly Bai Chen, Fuxi, the Phoenix Clan, and the Human Race. She repeatedly shields Bai Chen from enemies and consequences, but also disciplines him when his schemes become excessive, including confining him to Wa Saint Palace after he mobilized the Demon Clan recklessly 87 223.

She is proud of her Sainthood and readily uses her status to intimidate rivals, as seen when she taunted Houtu and Xuanming over the Witch Clan’s lack of a Saint 142. Yet she is also pragmatic and politically calculating: when recruited by Di Jun, she demanded thirty percent of the Demon Clan’s Merit and Fortune, intending to use the faction’s resources to strengthen her own position 116.

Nuwa can be stern toward Fuxi without ceasing to care for him. Though initially reluctant to punish her elder brother for his involvement in the Human Race’s slaughter, she ultimately destroyed his Good and Evil Corpses and demoted him to Half-Quasi-Saint to answer the Human Race’s grievances 355 358.

Nuwa joined the Demon Clan after Di Jun and Eastern Emperor Taiyi apologized for East Prince Gong’s accusations and accepted her demand for thirty percent of the Demon Clan’s Merit and Fortune 116. As Demon Empress, she resisted attempts to absorb the Phoenix Clan into the faction and used the Monster Summoning Banner to bring Kunpeng under her control 118 123.

Creation of the Human Race

After repeated failures at molding life, Nuwa used Bai Chen’s Innate Breathing Soil, mud embryos, and the Law of Creation to create the Human Race 127 128. She then sacrificed the Primordial Holy Sword, received immense merit, and Proved the Dao as a Heavenly Dao Saint 128.

Rather than sheltering humanity completely, Nuwa instructed her creations to establish themselves through their own efforts. She remained their Human Mother Goddess, but intended for them to develop without becoming dependent on her protection 128.

Guardian of the Human Race

Following the Demon Clan’s slaughter of humans, Nuwa faced the conflict between protecting Fuxi and answering for the Human Race. She eventually punished Fuxi severely and personally visited the devastated human lands 355 358 360.

She later challenged Laozi’s Golden Core Great Dao by creating and preaching the Five Elements Yin Yang Creation Great Dao, giving the Human Race an alternative cultivation path 362 363.

Mending the Heavens

When Buzhou Mountain collapsed, Nuwa first used the Mountain River Society Chart to protect the Human Race, Bai Chen’s holdings, and the Phoenix Clan 386. After Houtu reminded her of her responsibility as a Heavenly Dao Saint, Nuwa gathered the Innate Five-Colored Stones, repaired the Heavenly Rift, and used the limbs of the North Sea Divine Turtle to establish the Four Pillars of Heaven 387 389 390.

Human Dao Spokesperson

At Bai Chen’s urging, Nuwa petitioned the Great Dao to recognize the Human Race as the protagonists of heaven and earth. The Great Dao granted her request, revived the Human Dao, and named Nuwa its spokesperson 408.
