After recovering from the Old World, Yi Chen joined Lotsen and Barry on a mission to investigate Lewenholm’s unexplained deaths. The deaths escalated into a citywide crisis, and Yi Chen began tracing the Black Liquid’s link to the victims and its possible presence beneath the river.

• Yi Chen returned to Zion, learned Jin was still missing, and began decoding the Box of the Mad while training with Zede to reach his physical limit.
• Yi Chen joined Lotsen and Barry on the Lewenholm mission, where the team found victims with no physical signs of disease and Mr. Hervoye suspected their instinct to avoid death had been reversed.
• Yi Chen and Barry investigated the western district and discovered that an old woman at a recorded death address was connected to the spreading force, but their captured suspect vanished into sewer garbage.
• At the hospital, Hervoye’s experiments suggested the Death Factor spread through vision and left a black-cross-like pattern, while Dean Diss warned the Sun Church against carrying it back to Zion.
• Yi Chen and Barry gained access to the Cemetery, where Rubel evacuated and left Yi Chen in charge of the Stone Statue Graveyard with Little Grape.
• Yi Chen saw the death symbol form in water and on a mirror, then resisted a nightmare attack in which a hanged woman and Barry turned against him.
• More than nine hundred civilians drowned themselves in the Dom River, and Zion barred anyone from leaving Lewenholm.
• Yi Chen told Dean Diss that the Black Liquid might carry memories and settle beneath the riverbed, then agreed to search the sewers with Barry and the Sun Church.

Yi Chen survived the Death Plague’s devastation of Lewenholm, killed Vice Dean Aivart with Little Grape’s help, and escaped the city with Jin, Regan, and Barry’s body. Back in Zion, he suppressed the death imbalance in his body, made a pact with Yellow Skin, and was taken to Divine Skin Manor to receive his reward.

• Dean Diss gave Yi Chen Sun Secret Medicine and warned him that its effects opposed Twilight Silver Liquid, while the Blood Baron and Lotsen searched for the medicine and planned to take William Berens’s body.
• Dean Diss, Vice Dean Ayvat, and Captain Brogg found the hidden chamber where Death Plague Knight Rotvis entered through a citizen, and the plague spread across Lewenholm as Yi Chen and Barry fought the infected.
• Regan rebuilt Fei’s Mind Field and became Transcendent, while Jin Almeida returned from Holy Grail Mountain and headed toward the Black Fog.
• Yi Chen and Barry joined the effort to purge Sunshine Hotel, but Vice Dean Ayvat trapped them with illusions and Death Threads, killed Barry, and hanged Yi Chen to make the plague read his memories.
• The Death Plague pulled Yi Chen into memories of his childhood and his work for the organization, where he met Granny Tang and learned that Black Liquid was part of his body.
• Yi Chen’s consciousness entered William during an investigation at Star Moon Art Creation School, then Black Liquid rebuilt his body in William’s death makeup and Twilight Silver Liquid awakened Yuehen’s Flesh Stitching.
• Little Grape joined Yi Chen against Ayvat, and Yi Chen used an illusion and Barry Besarius’s corpse to kill Ayvat before Lotsen and the Blood Baron arrived to claim him as a vessel.
• Jin and Miss Fei helped defeat Lotsen, and Yi Chen escaped Lewenholm with Jin and Regan as Rotvis released the Black Fog that turned the city into a City of the Dead.
• After Yi Chen returned to Zion, Doctor Visari cleared him of Death Epidemic factors, Yi Chen delivered Barry’s remains to the Bessarius Family, and Sun Secret Medicine restored his bodily balance.
• Yellow Skin contracted with Yi Chen for five hundred years, and Professor Chamberson escorted him to Divine Skin Manor while secretly giving him a feather to summon help if his life was threatened.

Yi Chen broke through the Human Limit by fusing with the Biomass Brain, then gained new abilities and trained to face Zion’s spreading Nightmare. The arc ended with Yi Chen, Jin, and Regan persuading Principal Deslin to supervise their trial exploration through the Power Station’s dream-entry room.

• Yi Chen accepted the First Gentleman candidacy, and Principal Deslin taught him perception on the Fantasy Celestial Body until he unlocked Star Magic and solved the Box of the Mad.
• Yi Chen fused with the Biomass Brain at the Major-Hospital-of-Hippocrates, entered the Old World as the Mad Shell, and used a Hospital of indoctrinated Sick Ones to reach the Diseased Origin and break the Human Limit.
• Yi Chen returned to Zion with the Lecturer profession and a strengthened bond to the Disease Source, then reported his breakthrough and had Mr. Ivan remake his clothing.
• Yi Chen survived nested Nightmare Room visions, and Principal Deslin and the Prophets discovered Nightmare substance spilling from his body during their review of his memories.
• Yi Chen and Jin trained in Prophet Yuri’s arena, where Yuri defeated them but offered Yi Chen instruction in exchange for examining his body.
• Yi Chen trained to sense Slaughter Lines on Yuri’s humanoid prototypes, then agreed with Jin and Regan to seek Nightmare Qualification under Principal Deslin’s supervision.

Yi Chen investigated the Nightmare’s infection in Zion, learned of Catherine’s challenge, and accepted her game to drive the Nightmare’s source from the city. After transforming with Nightmare power and defeating several dream-entry squads, he entered Nightmare Town with the Gentleman Squad approaching.

• Yi Chen entered the Power Station’s dream experiment, reached a deeper Nightmare layer by eating its tentacles, and returned with a Nightmare Card inviting him to 83 Rotka Street.
• Yi Chen met Catherine at the raw-material factory, learned that the Nightmare was spreading ideas through food, and accepted her challenge to play a game for Zion’s fate.
• Yi Chen trained the maids at Yuri’s abode in Enlightenment, then left Zion after Principal Deslin warned him not to interfere with the organization’s Nightmare Plan.
• Yi Chen met Lorien and hunted Moonfolk beyond Zion, taking their moon crystals before traveling to meet Catherine.
• Yi Chen followed his Nightmare Card to Catherine, signed her contract, and absorbed Nightmare Substance, gaining a transformed body with six iron-chain tentacles.
• Yi Chen entered the dream-entry teams’ spaces, defeated Branklin, and Enlightened him as a student after learning the story behind his killings.
• Yi Chen and Branklin overcame Slona’s squad, and Yi Chen killed Slona after exposing her deception and identifying the approaching Gentleman Squad.
• Yi Chen told Branklin that he was playing to make the Nightmare’s source leave Zion, then entered Nightmare Town and spotted its amusement park and circus.
