Background / History

Mo Tu first appears as a senior brother who agrees to teach Li Xiuchang Soul Manipulation and guides him in planting Netherfrost Grass. He recognizes Li’s talent for Spirit Planting, loans him a Jade Flute containing two First-tier malevolent spirits, and teaches him the fundamentals of ghost control, commands, and maintaining spirit loyalty. 32 33 He later invites Li to continue bringing questions about Soul Manipulation and Spirit Plants to him. 34

His connection to the New Demonic Path is exposed when three demonic cultivators seek their senior expert and Mo Tu returns to confront the situation. He is described as a fierce, burly man and a senior expert of the New Demonic Path. 88 He subsequently assists Li with Netherfrost Grass, explains its value as food for malevolent spirits, evaluates Su Qingchun’s potential on the Ghost Path, and teaches Li further Soul Manipulation methods. 89 90 91

Mo Tu participates in the Sleeping Buddha Temple trials with Li Xiuchang. The Buddhist teachings conflict with his demonic nature, prompting him to forcibly break free from the dream trial; the act triggers the Ascension Rule and causes him to ascend without undergoing tribulation. 217 218

He later infiltrates the Dark Heaven Realm alongside Li Xiuchang. Though disguised as a Qi Condensation cultivator, he repeatedly kills abusive demonic cultivators and protects mortals, explaining that killing demonic cultivators has become instinctive for him. 246 247 During the campaign against the Blazing Blood Demonic Sect, he reveals overwhelming Soul Path strength, kills several Immortal-level ancestors with his Soul Banner, and evades forced ascension using an Immortal Concealment Talisman. 257

After the Blazing Blood Demonic Sect’s fall, Mo Tu organizes the takeover of its territory, establishes the Magic Dust Sect, and transports New Demonic Path cultivators into the Dark Heaven Realm. 263 The New Demonic Sect eventually unifies the realm, with Mo Tu becoming its lord and Li Xiuchang serving as Vice Sect Master. 289 Mo Tu then works to replace old demonic methods with non-evil cultivation practices and develops Spirit Planters in the Dark Heaven Realm. 253 300

This instinct is so ingrained that he can kill without deliberation, later admitting that exterminating demonic cultivators has become “muscle memory.” 246 247 At the same time, he seeks to create cultivation paths that do not require murder, blood absorption, or soul refinement. 253
