Ear Consciousness of the Eight Consciousnesses
The Yogacara school, which only scratched the surface of Consciousness-Only Theory, has borne fruit!
This was the best news Liang Qu had heard in the second half of June! Counting the days, he broke through the Galloping Horse on the 29th, subdued the wild River Dolphin herd led by Scarhead on the same day, and obtained the Tiger Devouring Human You and the Netherwood Root Buddha Sculpture.
It has been a full month since then!
Who is the Old Monk Perfected Elephant Grandmaster!
Liang Qu witnessed firsthand how diligently he studied the classics, and he couldn't imagine how long it would take him to do so himself.
No wonder there's a saying, "Don't plant trees if you're not in the Wolf Smoke, and don't raise trees if you're not Hunting Tiger."
Martial Artist often compare creating Cultivation Method and martial arts to planting trees.
Various scriptures and classics are the nutrients needed to plant trees. The trees absorb nutrients from all sides and bear fruit, which is the complete martial arts and Cultivation Method.
As the saying goes, "Don't bother trying to create any Cultivation Method until you see the Wolf Smoke war," which is essentially the same as "don't plant trees."
Even if Wolf Smoke Martial Master accidentally plants a tree, don't even think about raising it. Only when you reach the Hunting Tiger Great Martial Master realm are you qualified to cultivate it properly.
As for what comes next, all you need to learn is how to pick fruit.
Listen to advice, and you'll have a full meal.
Liang Qu was self-aware; he tried to run before he could walk, attempting to deduce Cultivation Method from classical texts, much like a junior high school student trying to master calculus before learning derivatives.
Not to mention the Yogacara school, which has only scratched the Consciousness-Only Theory of Buddhist scriptures; it's questionable whether he even has the qualifications to engage with it.
You shouldn't do things that are too ambitious or unrealistic.
If he becomes Perfected Elephant Grandmaster or even Martial Saint in the future, he will have plenty of time to read various scriptures and doctrines.
"Did the master wait for me specially tonight?"
"Indeed."
The Old Monk stepped aside to make way, Liang Qu dusted himself off and hurriedly followed the Old Monk into the West Wing.
Apart from a bed, a bookshelf, and a long table, there was almost nothing else in the room; it was simple and elegant.
On the long table, a large number of manuscript papers were neatly stacked on the left, and an inkstone was placed on the right. On the brush holder next to it, the ink on the mixed-hair brush was not yet dry, and a faint ink fragrance was emanating from it.
Two scrolls were laid out side by side on the table. The one on top was made of slightly thicker paper and had a slightly yellowish color. It was the original manuscript of the "《Completion of Consciousness-Only Treatise Conclusion》" brought back by Liang Qu.
The next sheet was whiter, with the same content, but with many markings and annotations between the rows and columns. It was clearly a copy that the Old Monk had made again to take notes.
The Old Monk came to the left side of the long table, counted out several sheets of manuscript paper from the pile, and handed them to Liang Qu.
Liang Qu respectfully accepted the manuscript and glanced at the cover.
The Ear Consciousness Method.
Is it related to the ears?
Turning the cover over, Liang Qu examined it closely with a sense of suspense.
The manuscript did not begin by discussing the so-called Ear Consciousness Method. Instead, the Old Monk first summarized the general content of the "《Completion of Consciousness-Only Treatise Conclusion》" in his own words.
In the Yogacara Method, the Eight Consciousnesses are the core. The Old Monk succinctly explained the meaning of the Eight Consciousnesses.
"The first five senses are the ear, eye, nose, tongue, and body; the sixth sense is the mind; the seventh sense is the potential sense; Eight Consciousnesses is the seed sense, which is the root of all things."
The "Ear Consciousness Method" is the first of the Eight Consciousnesses, which the Old Monk spent a month summarizing. It is the simplest and most basic part of the entire "《Completion of Consciousness-Only Treatise Conclusion》".
"All phenomena are without Self-Nature; it is through my mind that I perceive all appearances..."
Under the Golden Bright Oil, Liang Qu sat cross-legged on the futon and read through the text, but he was still confused about the content of the Ear Consciousness Method.
The 《Completion of Consciousness-Only Treatise Conclusion》 is already a summary.
The "Ear Consciousness Method" was translated by the Old Monk three times.
Even so, he still seemed to understand but not quite.
I feel like I understand, but I also feel like I don't.
Could it be that I lack the innate wisdom to attain enlightenment?
Seeing Liang Qu's furrowed brows, the Old Monk offered some words of advice.
"The wind blows through the long forest, what sound do the withered leaves make?"
Liang Qu thought for a moment.
"Rustle?"
"What sound does the green leaf make next?"
"Hmm... splash?"
"I have only heard of the difference between life and death."
Hiss! It was as if a lightning bolt had flashed through Liang Qu's mind, clearing away the clouds and revealing the clear sky.
Looking down at the book "Ear Consciousness Method" in my hand again, the meaning between the lines became clear and thorough.
I see, I see.
The so-called auditory perception is not simply about practicing hearing to achieve the effect of hearing from thousands of miles away.
What's the use of hearing from afar or listening in great detail?
It's just that it's easier to lie in the corner.
The sounds made by green leaves and withered leaves are completely different; one can discern the difference between life and death with the ear!
More than simply the strength of hearing, auditory perception is a technique for processing the profound information contained in sound! All things in the universe can be perceived through hearing! This is auditory perception!
He truly deserves to be called a holy monk of his generation; his aspirations are so lofty.
By the same token, how should we apply to the eyes, nose, tongue, and body?
"Holy monk, you're awesome! Old Monk, you're awesome! "Liang Qu thought with admiration, and stood up, holding the "Ear Consciousness Method".
"Master, do you have a copy? May I take this method back and study it carefully?"
The Old Monk extended his hand, making a "please" gesture.
The Ear Consciousness Method was indeed something he had researched, but the 《Completion of Consciousness-Only Treatise Conclusion》 " was brought by Liang Qu.
Even a skilled cook cannot cook without rice. Without Liang Qu, the "《Completion of Consciousness-Only Treatise》" would have remained untouched for who knows how long, let alone the "Ear Consciousness Method." The fruits of our labor will naturally be shared.
Having discovered a wondrous method, Liang Qu was overjoyed.
He walked to the door, then suddenly remembered something and turned around to ask.
"Master, could I saw off the lotus base of that Netherwood Root?"
The Netherwood can soothe the mind, stimulate thought, and Opening Wisdom and Enlightenment.
Carved into a wooden pendant, about the size of an index finger, if a child wears it year-round, he will be more intelligent than other children.
It can further help Martial Artist achieve enlightenment.
Liang Qu sleeps on Mirage Worm every day with a Buddha sculpture next to him. His thinking is noticeably faster, and he is not as tired after completing training in his dreams.
Since good things shouldn't be kept for oneself, and it's difficult to divide a whole Buddha sculpture, the idea of taking the lotus base at the bottom was put on mind.
It's just that the "《Completion of Consciousness-Only Treatise》" in Tibetan style is a Buddhist statue, and it's obvious which holy monk the entire Buddha statue depicts. It wouldn't be good to rashly saw it off. I should come and ask for advice from professionals.
The Old Monk raised his eyebrows slightly upon hearing this.
He remained silent for a long time.
"What do you intend to use it for?"
"Give it away."
How many portions?
Liang Qu counted them briefly. "Thirty portions, each about the size of a thumb."
Ten portions for the Master, fourteen portions for Xu Yuelong, one portion for Xiao Shunzi and Xiao Kui from Chen Qingjiang's family, and one portion for the Old Monk.
There are a total of twenty-seven copies. I'll keep one with me and keep the other two in reserve, in case they come in handy later.
"Bring me the Buddha statue."
Liang Qu immediately moved a wooden Buddha statue, which was up to his thigh, out of the room.
The Old Monk took the Buddha statue, glanced at Liang Qu, shook his head slightly, then reached out and closed the lotus base. When he opened it again, the lotus on the base seemed to bloom and a petal fell off!
Liang Qu's pupils contracted slightly. He was certain that, apart from the cover plate on the back, the entire statue was a single piece!
How did he do that? The Old Monk's control over his strength was simply unbelievable. He managed to completely shave off a Lotus Leaf using only the force of his palm. In no time, all thirty lotus petals fell off the lotus seat one by one.
Although the base of the Buddha sculpture is smaller, it has retained its original appearance!
The Old Monk neatly stacked the items and handed them to Liang Qu, speaking earnestly and earnestly.
"You must not do anything that wastes resources. If you need them again in the future, just come to me."
Liang Qu was unusually embarrassed, as the Old Monk's leaf-peeling technique truly opened his eyes.
"The master is right."
