Quirinus Quirrell's Story (3)
His patience was running out, and I knew I couldn't delay any longer; I had to act quickly.
Quirrell told himself this.
Long ago, Quirrell had secretly conducted numerous simulations of his plan to infiltrate Gringotts, preparing for a successful theft of the Philosopher's Stone.
On the last day of July, Quirrell got up early, dressed in his usual clothes, and went to the Leaky Cauldron for a drink.
He would go to the Leaky Cauldron every day to sit for a while, using it as a cover for his actions.
Quirrell told the bar owner, Tom, that he had come to Diagon Alley to buy a new book about vampires, and that he would also buy a book about vampires later. This would create a fait accompli, preventing others from associating him with the thief who broke into Gringotts. Otherwise, regardless of success or failure, he would have to hide and evade the Ministry of Magic's pursuit and the Goblin ' hunt.
Having just had a few drinks, Quirrell noticed that the once bustling bar had suddenly fallen into a deathly silence. He followed the gazes of the people and saw Hagrid leading a thin boy into the bar, casually introducing the boy to Tom.
This was Quirrell's first time meeting the famous Harry Potter.
It is said that this savior defeated the most powerful Dark wizard at the time when he was still an infant, and no one knows exactly how Harry Potter did it. However, in Quirrell's opinion, this savior didn't seem to be doing very well; he looked rather... frail.
It's hard to imagine that Dumbledore would entrust the famous Harry Potter to Muggle to raise; to Quirrell, this matter certainly seems very strange.
With Hagrid's introduction, Quirrell and Harry officially met, shook hands, and exchanged a few stammering words.
He played his role very well.
Quirrell knew that the Dark Lord might have him find an opportunity to kill the savior while he was teaching at Hogwarts.
Murdering a child who knows nothing is far too easy. Even the savior, the legendary Harry Potter, is now just an eleven-year-old boy who knows nothing and is so vulnerable to Dark Magic.
Even after Harry Potter left, people were still talking about him. Tom even generously offered to treat all the guests present to a free drink to celebrate Harry Potter's return.
Quirrell naturally joined the celebration, and after everyone finished celebrating, Quirrell made an excuse to leave the bar and actually bought a new book about vampires at Flourish and Blotts.
Then, he casually strolled into a tourist shop called Terror Trip in a corner, pretending to talk to the owner about the Transylvania Vampire Castle.
In reality, the shop owner had already been controlled by Quirrell using the Imperius Curse. He had come here to wait for someone—his roommate from Hogwarts, a nasty fellow who often teased and pranked him.
Quirrell plans to use Polyjuice Potion to impersonate his former roommate and enter Gringotts. If the Goblin discover any clues, then the goblins will be out of luck.
Quirrell felt no pressure at all about framing his opponent.
Quirrell wouldn't be foolish enough to enter Gringotts in his own name; that would be too suspicious. With the help of the Imperius Curse and the Polyjuice Potion, infiltrating Gringotts wasn't too difficult for Quirrell.
Half an hour later, his roommate finally arrived.
Quirrell took the key from the other person, drank Polyjuice Potion mixed with the other person's hair, disguised himself as the other person, and went to Gringotts to collect the money.
The Goblin didn't even suspect anything and led him into the underground cave.
As soon as Quirrell entered the cave and confirmed that no one was around, he immediately used the Imperius Curse to control the Goblin who had led the way.
As for the Goblin he had previously controlled with the Imperius Curse, she was already waiting for him by the designated vault in another small cart. Quirrell took a large bag of Galleon from the vault, then boarded the other cart and headed directly to Vault 713, deeper into the cave.
Everything went surprisingly smoothly. The Goblin quickly led him to Vault 713 deep inside the cave. Quirrell couldn't understand why no one had ever successfully stolen from Gringotts before.
Were those thieves just too stupid? He wondered.
I am about to obtain the Philosopher's Stone and receive the Dark Lord's reward.
As for how to leave this place, that is the biggest problem. Gringotts cannot Apparition, so he has several plans for leaving.
Even if he really runs into trouble, he has already found a scapegoat.
An unfortunate thief, whom Quirrell had carefully chosen to mislead everyone as much as possible.
If Quirrell runs into trouble when leaving, he will give the bag of Galleon to the thief and alter his memory to divert everyone's attention.
That's right, he did it. As for the evidence, his wand is the evidence, the one Quirrell is using now.
"Open the vault!" Quirrell commanded the Goblin beside him.
Fortunately, under the Dark Lord's training, his mastery of the Imperius Curse was not low; otherwise, it might have really been a bit troublesome.
The Goblin extended her long fingers and gently knocked on the door.
Quirrell had learned from the Goblin long ago that the precious vaults in Gringotts' underground that didn't require keys were not to be touched by anyone other than Goblin; otherwise, they would be sucked into the door and trapped inside.
What exactly does the Philosopher's Stone look like? He couldn't wait to get his hands on it.
However, as Quirrell focused his attention on the door in front of him, he was astonished to find that the Goblin's body was stuck inside the vault door.
What exactly happened?
Quirrell was completely stunned. A bad feeling washed over him, and he immediately realized the reason: Goblin Magic!
That's right. Opening this door requires Goblin Magic, and only Goblin can use Goblin Magic, so only Goblin can open this door.
Hateful!
Quirrell originally wanted to take the Philosopher's Stone quietly, but now this is the only way!
Fortunately, he already had several contingency plans.
Quirrell was furious. He knew he had been tricked by the Goblin trapped in the door. Even though he had used Legilimency on him, something unexpected still happened.
A wisp of flame shot from the tip of Quirrell's wand and landed on the vault door, where it began to burn fiercely.
This is the Fiendfyre Curse.
A cursed and terrifying flame that can destroy almost anything with ease.
The Goblin who was trapped inside the door was quickly Fiendfyre, and the door to the vault was covered in flames, burning a hole in it.
Quirrell immediately chanted a spell to extinguish the Fiendfyre. He dared not let the flames spread, otherwise they might destroy the Philosopher's Stone in the vault. Worse still, once the Fiendfyre Curse spread, even he would be unable to control it.
Even Goblin's treasury couldn't compare.
Quirrell muttered something to himself, then looked through the vault entrance at the items inside and froze.
The vault was empty; there was nothing inside.
The Philosopher's Stone is gone!
Had the Goblin deceived him, or had he arrived too late, and the Philosopher's Stone had already been taken by Dumbledore? Quirrell felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave, his hands and feet turning icy cold.
No, that's impossible!
At that moment, Quirrell panicked. He couldn't bear the consequences of failing to steal the Philosopher's Stone. He couldn't even imagine how the Dark Lord would punish him. Perhaps he should run away, run away immediately, and seek Dumbledore's help? Would Dumbledore help him? Quirrell suddenly realized how ridiculous his thoughts were! Was that even possible?
He had just been planning to steal the Philosopher's Stone that Dumbledore had stored in Gringotts.
Quirrell quickly snapped out of his daze and knew he had to leave immediately.
Those Goblin must already know that someone has invaded Gringotts. He must leave immediately, or he will be surrounded by the Goblin.
She hoped that the escape route she had prepared would allow him to leave smoothly.
Quirrell glanced at the other Goblin beside him, then quickly got into the cart and returned to the upper level.
