Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as the son of its leader, Yu Yuanzhen. His mutated Martial Soul and poor cultivation prospects made him a long-standing object of ridicule within the Soul Master world; he eventually hid in Notting City for more than a decade. Despite this, he developed a reputation through his Ten Core Competitiveness of Martial Souls and other theories. 128 129 229

He became Tang San's teacher and treated his disciple as both a source of genuine pride and a means to realize his own ambitions. He sought to place Tang San in Royal Fight Team One and envisioned the two of them becoming legendary Soul Masters together. 226

During the conflict surrounding Zhu Zhuqing and the Shrek team, Yu Xiaogang pushed Tang San to pressure Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing into completing their Martial Soul Fusion Skill for the team’s benefit. Han Li considered this coercive approach malicious, particularly because Yu Xiaogang treated both Zhu Zhuqing and Tang San as tools. 191 192

After Tang Hao severely injured him, Yu Xiaogang’s shattered left leg was repaired using a hundred-year Grass Dog/Vegetable Dog bone specimen. The replacement unexpectedly improved his Soul Power circulation and enabled his breakthrough. Yu Xiaogang’s complete limb replacements and absorption of a Thousand-Year Vegetable Dog Soul Ring caused Luo Sanpao to disappear as an independent summon and triggered a Martial Soul evolution. Following the Soul Master Competition, Yu Xiaogang returned to his clan but was shunned. He chose to seek status and leverage through Spirit Hall, intending to use his knowledge of Xuan Tian Gong and the Martial Soul Research Institute as bargaining chips. Yu Xiaogang persuaded Bibi Dong to aid him with an alleged flaw in Xuan Tian Gong, but his modified cultivation path harmed its practitioners and made him a target of widespread revenge. Bibi Dong later annihilated the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, including Yu Yuanzhen, while claiming to avenge Yu Xiaogang’s past humiliation. Left as the apparent sole survivor, Yu Xiaogang sought revenge against her and entered an alliance with Qian Renxue and Han Li, offering his own life as a weapon to destabilize Bibi Dong. 384 386
