Background / History

During the era of the True Gods, the Main World was not a Divine Kingdom. It lay at the center of the ancient world, where conflicts between gods had once occurred; after the Divine Kingdoms’ borders stabilized, it became a buffer zone between them. With no god governing it, its people were not bound by divine rules. 598

After an unknown disaster silenced the gods, the original world split into separate realms behind impassable space barriers. Later generations used divine artifacts to breach those barriers and create the Doors connecting the modern Different Worlds. 598

Humanity began discovering Doors to other worlds more than a century before Luo Jun’s arrival in Chaos. The world from which these expeditions originated became known as the Main World, while the linked realms were collectively called Different Worlds. 15

The Main World’s recent development has been unusually rapid. Its technology advanced dramatically in the century after the Doors opened, while even technologically advanced Different Worlds have shown comparatively little change over the same period. 847

Society and Cultivation

  • Vital Energy cultivation is regulated rather than openly promoted to the entire population. More than one million Cultivators exist worldwide, but only a minority possess notable cultivation talent. 554
  • The Main World’s population has diverse cultivation aptitudes because it is not constrained by the rules of a particular god or Divine Kingdom. 598
  • Gates and explorer activity are concealed from the general public. Major organizations maintain controlled facilities, screening procedures, changing rooms, storage areas, and security around known Gates. 201 650 785
  • Cultivators explore Different Worlds for knowledge, technology, resources, and intelligence on foreign civilizations and monsters. Hundreds or thousands die in such expeditions in Dawnland each year. 31
  • The Main World has developed a thin spiritual aura through the presence of Gates and the growing number of Cultivators living among ordinary people. 554

Gates and Interworld Exploration

Gate Properties

Property Details
Visibility Gates are more conspicuous from the Main World but nearly transparent and extremely difficult to locate from the other side. Every known Gate was first discovered and controlled by humanity. 53 73
Transit restrictions Non-living objects generally cannot cross. Apart from Chaos-granted Treasure Tools, forced transit can break an item down in space-time turbulence and injure its carrier. 31 73
Secrecy Explorers are screened for discretion and may receive thought imprints that prevent them from revealing Main World information to Otherworlders. 53 201
Cognitive Veil Otherworlders appear subject to cognitive distortion: even when told of the Main World, they may dismiss or ignore the information. 201 679
Interworld travel Under normal circumstances, Different Worlds have no direct Gates to one another; the Main World serves as the bridge between them. 794
Chaos Missions Only the Main World can be summoned and detected by the Chaos Mission system. 649

Documented Gate Network

World / Gate Main World Connection Notes
Wildlands / Wilderness Gate on Lingyun Island A monster-filled world with no native civilization; its Gate is comparatively open to independent explorers who pay the required fees. 53
Martial World Gate beneath Ningdong Academy’s restricted Back Mountain Operated by the Yuan Cultivation Society; its Main World personnel pose as the Hundred Rivers Sect. 201
Utopia Controlled explorer access A lower-pollution industrializing world where Holy See personnel can remain for extended periods. 284
Heaven Gate on Heavenly Origin Island The smallest known Different World, with clearly defined boundaries; the island and Gate are heavily protected from public discovery. 378 650
Myth First Gate discovered by the Main World The world where explorers discovered the Mysterious Stone Tablet. 853
Game Reached through the recently discovered Thirteenth Door The Door remained visibly unstable even after Midnight stabilized it; those entering initially became trapped. 785
Paranormal Controlled explorer access Return facilities include isolation, disinfection, and scanning to prevent spirit bodies or other contaminants from entering the Main World. 564

Newly Formed Gates

A newly appearing Gate is a global crisis: it represents access to new resources and dangers, while unstable spatial turbulence can threaten the Main World itself. No new Gate had appeared for more than a century after the first wave of discoveries, making the later emergence of a new Gate especially significant. 548

Midnight stated that the Thirteenth Door’s formation had been destined, but a fault prevented it from stabilizing naturally. She used a spatial stabilization device she had left in the Main World to repair it. 548

Rules and Contamination

Every Different World operates under distinct rules. Technologies or abilities that function in one world may fail, weaken, or behave unexpectedly in another, including the Main World. 54 431

Main World creatures gradually become contaminated when exposed to another world’s rules. Prolonged exposure can cause mental collapse, mutation, loss of identity, or death. Those irreversibly altered are called Polluters. 54

  • Most Polluters were originally Main World explorers who remained in another world until their contamination became irreversible. 249
  • Polluter manifestations depend on the world that contaminated them: Wilderness and Wasteland Polluters may grow mutated tissue, Paranormal Polluters may become spirit-like, and Martial World Polluters may show no obvious physical change. 249
  • Otherworlders brought into the Main World are likewise gradually affected by Main World rules, changing at the spiritual and ideological level. 598
  • Organizations attempt to purify discovered Polluters; those who cannot be purified are eliminated. 54

Strategic Importance

The Main World’s control of the Doors prevents known Different Worlds from learning of its existence or mounting direct invasions. Because Gates are hidden from the other side and Otherworlders struggle to perceive the Main World, the possibility of interworld invasion is ordinarily minimal. 53 794

This protection is not absolute. Foreign Polluters, Chaos Creatures, unstable Gates, spirit entities, and beings capable of bypassing ordinary gate restrictions can all threaten the Main World. 460 564 798

The Main World’s relative safety also depends on its strongest Cultivators. Major events such as the Heavenly Origin Tournament can draw many top experts away to other worlds, temporarily reducing its available defensive strength. 650

Terminology

  • Main World is humanity’s modern name for its home world and the central bridge between connected realms. 15 794
  • God Forsaken Land is its ancient designation, reflecting its status as land outside the rule of any True God. 598
  • Visitors led by A Jiali call their own world the Main World and refer to the God Forsaken Land as the Land of Divine Birth, indicating that “Main World” is not necessarily a unique cosmic designation. 822
