The long-cherished wish of the El-Melloi lineage might be fulfilled in his hands.
Kischur Zelretch thought for a moment, then spoke.
"I plan to go ahead and scout out that countryside called Fuyuki City. During that time, you'll act as the provisional head of the El-Melloi family... Leinys is too young to command respect."
"Agreed."
Lin Zhen accepted without hesitation. Hearing Fuyuki City, he felt a flicker of doubt—the Fourth War in this world shouldn't start for a while yet. Could his teacher be planning to go early because of his own broadcast?
"Why go to such a small place?"
"To take part in a rural ritual called the Holy Grail War. I originally planned to go with your master's wife, Sola, but..."
Kischur tapped his temple. "This thing called the Myriad Worlds Live Broadcast appeared in my mind, and the only clue points to Fuyuki City. Something so elusive might be dangerous, so I'll leave her behind for now."
"You're certainly thorough in your deliberations."
Lin Zhen nodded. He wasn't afraid Kischur wouldn't return from Fuyuki City.
With the Illusion-Reality Dao Fruit, having already attained the Dao, he could simply deny the fact that Kischur ever went to Fuyuki City.
Letting his somewhat tsundere, old-fashioned teacher experience the malice of the Mage Killer might not be a bad choice.
People, after all, need to grow.
"Since you agree, that settles it. I'll go prepare. Leinys stays with you."
Kischur rose, hands clasped behind his back, and walked out the door. He suddenly felt that Lin Zhen's final gaze was a bit off.
It felt like... his father or his teacher.
A trick of the mind, probably.
He turned his attention to the broadcast in his consciousness.
Let's see what this "ordinary" Fuyuki City is really about.
Chapter 0005: A Day of Trash Picking at Fuyuki Dam (3K)
"I've landed, status good!"
Kazuma Satou, Hachiman Hikigaya, and Kurisu Makise touched down on the roof of a residential building.
"What do we do next?"
Kurisu asked. She'd barely even played games before, and this was her first time in a full-dive virtual reality game no one had ever achieved. She could only ask the two boys who'd already played the super closed beta.
"Hold on."
Kazuma, eager to show off in front of a woman of such beauty, quickly searched himself.
Aside from the standard-issue Magic Formal Wear, imitation Noble Phantasm, special bow, and Command Spell.
He found two more items.
A dark yellow booklet, and a tattered landscape painting.
Kazuma's first reaction upon finding something new wasn't to inspect it, but to post it in the group.
[Kazuma Satou: "Hohoho, bros, look what goodies I found."]
[Kurisu Makise: "She's right across from you, and you post in the group?"]
[Hachiman Hikigaya: "..."]
[Conan: "What's that?"]
Toyokawa: "What does it do?"
[Kazuma Satou: "See? That's a normal reaction."]
Too lazy to argue.
Kurisu found her own booklet. On the dark yellow, ancient cover were four unrecognizable characters, resembling Chinese.
But they weren't modern Chinese characters, nor ancient ones. What were they?
She reached out and touched the characters, and almost instantly, a panel appeared in her consciousness.
[Yu's Footprints Map (Imitation)] [Type: Special] [Grade: A] [Description: When Yu controlled the floods, he once surveyed the world on foot, knowing the water veins, earth veins, and spiritual veins, gathering the world's spiritual energy. The original could control the world's earth veins and manipulate water currents and tides with a single map.] [This is a standard version from Dao Tian Palace. It can display surrounding earth veins, spiritual veins, and the terrain and structures above them in real time.] [Note: This item is personally bound to the user's consciousness and soul. It will not drop upon death.]
"A map?"
Kurisu opened it. The entire terrain and buildings of Fuyuki City were displayed in perfect clarity, with gold and blue veins and green dots.
[Ryunosuke Uryu: "All that explanation for just a map? Sounds pretty boring."]
[Tokiomi Tohsaka: "Who is this clown? Doesn't he have even the basic common sense of a magus?"]
[Tokiomi Tohsaka: "Surveying and measuring ley lines and their nodes—if it were an ordinary magus family, it would take decades or even centuries to barely map them out. Yet with just one map, he can monitor in real time..."]
[Tokiomi Tohsaka: "A Magic Formal Wear of this level, and this person named Dao Tian Palace actually gives one to every member?"]
"Damn it."
Kazuma Satou watched the discussion on the bullet comments—his thunder had been stolen.
He had to "regain the spotlight."
It wasn't that he was truly upset; he just wanted to show off.
He opened another map.
[Rivers and Mountains Map (Imitation)]
[Type: Special]
[Grade: D]
[Description: Originally a saint's treasure, later bestowed upon the True Lord of Pure Source and Wonderful Dao to subdue the white ape who had attained Dao among the Seven Monsters of Meishan. It possesses infinite space, endless transformations, and the power to overturn heaven and earth.]
[This map is a D-grade imitation from Dao Tian Palace, possessing only spatial abilities. It can store tools, materials, treasures, and other items.]
[Note: Can be dropped. After dropping, it can only be picked up and viewed by members of Dao Tian Palace.]
"This is... a spatial backpack!"
Kazuma Satou glanced left and right. There was nothing for him to put inside. He could probably store the Magic Formal Wear he was wearing, but then he'd have no coat—that would be a bit awkward.
Forget it, he'd study the map first.
He opened his Yu's Footprints Map and looked at the green markers on it:
"Human-shaped green light dots should mark extraction points. The regular extraction point is... Fuyuki Church?"
Because he had played the original game, Kazuma Satou could roughly guess the corresponding content and explained it for the only pure newbie player.
Kurisu Makise asked:
"Regular extraction point?"
Hachiman Hikigaya explained:
"It means after we get what we want, we head there. We should find a place to be picked up and leave this city. Waiting ten seconds should let us extract."
Kazuma Satou buried his face back in the map:
"This square green light dot with an exclamation mark should be the switch point. There are two of them.
One is underground at Ryuudou Temple, east of the city.
The other is at the Einzbern Castle on the outskirts."
He scratched his head:
"Forget it, let's not worry about that for now. Let's go loot and see what we can get here."
"OK."
Hachiman Hikigaya and Kazuma Satou had played a few rounds of the original Delta.
The guy was genuinely good at the game—no denying it. Following his advice was almost always the right call.
Of course, that was assuming Kazuma Satou wasn't planning to intentionally go full troll and throw.
Hachiman Hikigaya glanced at the map:
"Which supply point first?"
"There are plenty of supply points. Let me see—Tohsaka Villa, Emiya Residence, Matou Insectarium, Einzbern Castle, Church Auditorium, Ecocole..."
Kurisu Makise cut off their conversation:
"I think we should go downstairs first."
"What's wrong?" "What happened?"
Kazuma Satou and Hachiman Hikigaya, who had been lying on the floor with their faces buried in the map, turned to look at her.
Kurisu Makise sighed and pointed downstairs:
"Why don't you take a look down there?"
Downstairs, a crowd of Fuyuki City citizens had gathered, with yakuza groups and Police Agency personnel rushing over from a distance.
Hachiman Hikigaya was a bit stunned and blurted out:
"Whoa, that many NPCs?"
Kazuma Satou looked at the white markers above their heads, signifying neutral creatures.
The modded Delta of Fate even added neutral units now.
He went along with Hachiman Hikigaya's remark:
"The NPCs aren't bad."
Kurisu Makise's expression completely cracked as she stared at the two clowns and said:
"What NPC? Let's get out of here already. Stop hanging around on some random person's rooftop."
She couldn't understand why those two treated this place like a game. It was no different from reality—aside from a few bizarre items, the sensations were still utterly real.
"Let's go... I'm off."
Kazuma Satou climbed down from the rooftop along a pipe, taking a fall midway. Luckily, he landed in a flowerbed—his dignity was bruised, but he wasn't hurt.
"Thud—"
Hachiman Hikigaya dropped straight down from the second floor. His left leg snapped on impact.
"Ow—damn it."
Kazuma Satou walked over, showing zero sympathy for his companion's injury, and tapped on the broken leg:
"What type is your Command Spell? Got any healing ones?"
"Tch—stop tapping."
Hachiman Hikigaya hissed, nearly jolted out of his skin, and threw a punch straight at Kazuma:
"I'm a survival-type Magic Formal Wear. My assigned Command Spell type is healing, mana recovery, and physical reinforcement."
Kazuma didn't dodge. He took the punch with a sly grin:
"Then use one. You're not walking anywhere without it."
Hachiman nodded. No choice. He raised his right hand and chanted:
"In the name of the Command Spell, heal my left leg."
A faint white light flickered, and the twisted leg slowly mended.
Hachiman Hikigaya shook out his old-cold leg and grinned.
