Background / History

Kazuma enters the Delta of Fate viewing it through the lens of a familiar tactical game, immediately asking Lin Zhen about the core operation cycle: scout, engage, search, and retreat. The prospect of a world of swords and magic excites him, but he quickly learns that its combat and consequences are far more real than an ordinary game. 3 12

Aqua provokes him into proposing a fight against Kirei Kotomine, but Kazuma tempers the impulsive challenge with practical planning. He forms an early team with Hachiman Hikigaya and Kurisu Makise, assigns their roles as tank, support, and strategist, and leads them toward Hagunihara Academy to gather resources before attempting any major battle. 7

After the team's initial operation, Kazuma becomes an official operative of Dao Tian Palace. The status grants conditional immortality and the ability to return his consciousness to his original world, establishing the Delta as more than a temporary game session. 17

Personality

Kazuma is loud, competitive, and unusually easy to provoke—particularly when Aqua insults him—but he is not truly reckless. Once a fight becomes real, he evaluates his team's equipment, accepts others' input, and favors leveling, reconnaissance, and preparation over charging into an unwinnable confrontation. 7

He approaches problems with a player's opportunism and a scout's patience. He studies enemy routines, exploits terrain and item systems, and treats unusual discoveries as resources to be tested rather than mysteries to fear. His adaptability extends to social situations; Hachiman refers to him as a “socialite otaku” because of how easily he navigates NPC interactions. 15 28

Despite his teasing, dishonest improvisation, and tendency to hold grudges against enemies, Kazuma is protective of vulnerable people. He refuses to abandon Illya when Heracles approaches, helps Shirou confront painful events from his past, and chooses to protect Sella and Lieselette rather than fight them. 76 178 187

Kazuma does not consider himself a hero of justice. He is willing to act for selfish, practical, or humorous reasons, but repeatedly puts himself at risk for teammates and civilians once he decides they are under his protection. 121 178

Abilities & Skills

Tactical Command and Scouting

Kazuma's primary value to a team is his ability to gather information, identify exploitable mechanics, and turn limited resources into workable plans.

  • Assigns combat roles and redirects his group away from an early confrontation with Kirei Kotomine until they have sufficient equipment. 7
  • Uses the Yu's Footprints Map to identify high-value resource zones and scouts enemy-filled buildings before committing the team. 12 192
  • Studies Souichirou Kuzuki's tea-drinking interval and office layout before attempting to replace his drink with Mahiro's Red Mead. 28
  • Coordinates the operation against Medusa by placing recorders as decoys, communicating with teammates, and creating an opening for Ryuguuin Seiya's sniper shot. 121 122
  • Reads battlefield conditions quickly, including Kirei's status as an illegitimate Master and the existence of Command Spells hidden on his other arm. 157 158

Archery

Kazuma fights with a bow and can remain useful at range even when stronger opponents force the group onto the defensive.

  • Defeats a Dragon Tooth Soldier with his bow, confirming that monsters leave loot boxes after defeat. 10
  • Wounds Souichirou Kuzuki with an arrow, though the attack is insufficient to defeat the assassin. 27
  • Uses repeated arrows and feigned resistance to stall Medea's side during the battle at Hagunihara Academy. 33 34

Command Spell Use

Kazuma has used functional Command Spells for infiltration, survival, and emergency support.

  • Uses Concealment Command Spells to scout the academy and infiltrate Kuzuki's office; the effect expires after its limited duration, exposing him. 12 28
  • Revives Mahiro Oyama with a Dao Tian Command Spell after Medea kills her. 32
  • Acquires special Command Spells formerly held by Kirei Kotomine, granting him control of Gilgamesh. 158

Exceptional Luck

Kazuma's luck is consistently treated as an abnormal advantage in exploration and item acquisition.

  • Obtains rare and high-quality loot, including gold-grade rewards from Medea's box. 36
  • Finds an advanced loot box in the ruins of an arcade and obtains the Vimana during a desperate evacuation. 92
  • Helps uncover the exceedingly rare Imitation Record of Boundary, an item stated to have a one-in-ten-million drop rate in normal Fuyuki City. 149
  • Possesses the Little Bird Immortal Legend, whose lore attributes temporary good fortune to those who encounter him. 145

Kazuma deliberately avoids gambling despite his luck. His parents warned him that relying on fortune for profit could eventually lead him into a trap. 177

Video Game Skill

Kazuma is an exceptionally skilled fighting-game player.

  • Defeats Gilgamesh repeatedly in Street Fighter, including a perfect victory against Gilgamesh's strongest character. 159
  • Holds back through most of their later matches and intentionally allows Gilgamesh to win the final round. 159

Fire Thief Remnant

Kazuma gains the legendary skill Fire Thief Remnant after the Extreme Evil Fuyuki Prototype settlement. Its specific effects are not yet disclosed. 198

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Delta Operations

Kazuma establishes his first team with Hachiman and Kurisu, leads its resource-gathering mission at Hagunihara Academy, and confirms the danger posed by Dragon Tooth Soldiers and high-intelligence NPCs. He later helps orchestrate the plan against Souichirou Kuzuki and Medea, using stealth, observation, archery, and Mahiro's Noble Phantasm rather than direct combat alone. 7 10 28 30 33

Illya and the Fuyuki Evacuation

While searching the New Capital, Kazuma encounters Illya and chooses to keep her safe despite Heracles' pursuit. When Hassan attacks, Kazuma withstands severe injuries to protect her long enough for Illya to summon Kiritsugu Emiya. He later finds the Vimana, giving the depleted group a route out of the area. 74 76 89 92

Red Archer and Medusa Operations

Kazuma participates in the conflict against Red Archer, contributes the True Origin Bullets to the group's strategy, and later scouts Medusa's position when Professor Lin Zhen is petrified. Archer-Class Development and Holy Grail War

Kazuma reveals the Little Bird Immortal Legend, receives Archer-class Heroic Spirit matches, and is assigned Command Spells for Gilgamesh after Kirei Kotomine's capture.
