Background / History
Lin Zhen transmigrated into the Type-Moon world and obtained the True-False Dao Fruit. After spending ten years researching himself, he developed Illusion-Reality Magic, a Dao-based power rather than conventional magecraft. His work centered on the relationship between truth, falsehood, consciousness, illusion, and existence. 1
Before his transmigration, Lin had completed a master’s degree and worked in a laboratory. This experience shaped his belief that research should be discussed and shared rather than hoarded. 1
Kischur Zelretch took Lin in after his arrival and became his mentor and adoptive father figure. Recognizing Lin as a “Grand Order” prodigy, Kischur concealed his exceptional potential from the Clock Tower and repeatedly sought to make him his research successor. Lin declined to abandon his own path, though he remained Kischur’s direct disciple. 1 4
To gain influence on a massive scale, Lin created Delta of Fate: a full-dive game combining the Holy Grail War with modified battle-royale mechanics. He later added the Myriad Realms Live Broadcast System and Dao Tian Palace as the game’s operational hub and reward system. Player experiences and audience reactions feed the growth of his Dao Fruit. 2 3 4 16
Appearance
Lin is a young black-haired man who commonly carries a cup, including a white porcelain cup decorated with a cartoon image. When teaching at the Clock Tower, he wears black formal wear woven with an extraordinary number of Magecraft circuits. 57 97
- Black hair 57
- Usually seen holding or drinking tea from a cup 57 58
- Uses a cane while participating in later Delta of Fate tests 116 137
- His false body, Su Ling, wears black robes as a Dao Tian Palace guide. 8
Personality
Lin is calm, analytical, and exceptionally self-assured without being needlessly domineering. He approaches even dangerous or unprecedented matters as research problems, often observing first, identifying the governing rules, and then making precise adjustments. 8 54 139
As a game creator, he prioritizes player enjoyment and fairness. He refuses to manipulate Kazuma Satou’s unusually fortunate item drops and prevents Kurisu Makise from using a personal “cheat” that other players could not access. 8 20
Despite his overwhelming power, Lin remains interested in people, their choices, and the experiences they produce. He routinely assists players with strategy and magecraft while respecting the game’s restrictions, and he ultimately values their experiences more than taking their rewards. 68 124 197
Abilities & Skills
Illusion-Reality Dao Fruit
Lin’s Dao Fruit allows him to turn falsehood into truth and illusion into reality. Within the scope of his consciousness and perception, he can define things as “false,” rendering outside interference unable to affect his internal cause. 1
- Creates physical phenomena by altering reality and existence rather than merely distorting space. 1
- Can negate a false body’s position and re-establish it elsewhere, allowing Su Ling to appear above Fuyuki City. 8
- Can create fictional time, space, conversations, and history, then make their contents real by canceling or adding negation. 55
- Creates false bodies that act separately from his original body. 8
- His constructions depend on his understanding of their subject; limited knowledge of Kirei Kotomine prevents him from making that NPC fully lifelike. 8
World and Game Creation
Lin created Delta of Fate, the Myriad Realms Live Broadcast System, and Dao Tian Palace as interconnected worlds and systems. His creation method focuses on adapting the world to human perception and player experience. 3 16 136
- Materializes game items, Craft Essences, systems, and NPCs. 3 8
- Records Dao Tian Palace operatives on its first heavenly layer, enabling revival through Fate Coins or allied assistance. 17
- Updates game rules and creates new functional modules after analyzing new information or phenomena. 139
- Refuses to grant exclusive mechanics that would undermine equal gameplay rules. 20
- Uses spectator accounts and alternate identities to gather genuine player feedback. 54 101
Magecraft and Ritual Analysis
Lin possesses broad mastery of magecraft, especially barriers, Formal Wear, mineralogy, Projection, and ritual theory. Kischur considers him the strongest among the few geniuses capable of seeing the essence of magecraft at a glance. 54
- Constructs workshop defenses that even Leinys and Kischur cannot bypass. 1 54
- Identifies the symbolic sequence and purpose of Kischur’s multilayered purification and sacred barrier ritual after observing it once. 54
- Improved Kischur’s Mystic Code, Moon Cell Soultaker/Trimurti, by upgrading its calculations, intelligence, functions, and mana efficiency. 54
- Developed the foundational technology for Magic Formal Wear by the age of six. 97
- Identified Arash Kaman’s Holy Relic by deducing that its golden crystal was formed from the hero’s disintegrated body. 99
- Interpreted an ancient Sanskrit operating system quickly enough to activate Vimana’s Golden Airship within thirty seconds. 93
Future Sight and Predictive Magic Eyes
During Delta of Fate tests, Lin uses predictive abilities to process information and direct allies. His standard set includes the D+ Imitation Noble Phantasm Future Gospel, which grants Future Sight. 106
- Uses Future Sight to guide Iori Kitahara and Kohei Imamura safely across traffic. 113
- Employs predictive calculation and spatial partitioning to estimate Medusa’s movement and maximum speed. 117
- Provides targeting information that allows Kohei’s magic bullets to repeatedly threaten Medusa. 117
- His game-character standard set lacks direct offensive capability. 113 116
Teaching and Mentorship
Lin is a feared but highly respected Clock Tower lecturer. His lessons are noted for being patient, clear, and unusually accessible despite the depth of his knowledge. 96 97
- Substitutes for Kischur’s Mineralogy class. 56 96
- Gives Waver Velvet a probationary discipleship, a Formal Wear research topic, and a valuable experimental device. 97
- Guides players through simplified magecraft when they attempt to reverse his petrification. 124
- Evaluates Noble Phantasms and standard sets with a focus on practical tactical use. 106
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- White porcelain cup — a childhood gift from Kischur, decorated with chibi versions of Lin and a younger Kischur. 55
- Prayer beads — used while Lin remains in his research room and controls the game world. 8
- Cane — carried during his later in-game participation. 116 137
- Black Magecraft Formal Wear — clothing densely woven with Magecraft circuits. 97
- Future Gospel — D+ Grade Imitation Noble Phantasm included in his reserve-magician standard set. 106
- Holy Relics — relics connected to Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, Karna, and Arash Kaman, entrusted to him by Kischur for Holy Grail War preparations. 99
Relationships
- Kischur Zelretch — Mentor, adoptive father figure, and head of the El-Melloi family. Kischur protects Lin from Clock Tower scrutiny, supports his research, and seeks to make him his successor. 4 5 55
- Leinys — Magecraft assistant and close associate. Lin assists her with tests, comforts her after failure, and entrusts her with sensitive information alongside Kischur. 1 55
- Waver Velvet — Probationary disciple. Lin recognizes Waver’s idea concerning Magic Formal Wear and values his derivation process even if his final result is wrong. 97
- Kazuma Satou — Player and frequent strategic collaborator. Kazuma’s advice persuades Lin to postpone confirming his Ultimate Proposition and experience life first. 58 147
- Iori Kitahara and Kohei Imamura — Players whom Lin supports as an information specialist during their battle with Medusa; they later help save him from petrification. 116 117 137
- God — Fellow creator with whom Lin exchanges methods of world creation, divine authority, and the risks of losing one’s selfhood through omnipotence. 136 147
- Shirou Emiya — Player whose soul Lin receives at Dao Tian Palace; Lin seals Shirou’s recent experiences and declines to claim the Holy Spirit reward attached to him. 57 197
Story Role / Major Arcs
Creation of *Delta of Fate*
Lin creates Delta of Fate to expand his influence and advance the Illusion-Reality Dao Fruit. He establishes Su Ling as a false-body guide, introduces players to Fuyuki City, and builds Dao Tian Palace as their headquarters and settlement area. 2 3 8 16
Clock Tower Research and Secrecy
While managing the game, Lin maintains a Clock Tower identity and carefully prevents the chat group from exposing his role as its creator. He reveals the Chat Group’s existence only to Kischur and Leinys under extensive magical isolation. 54 55
Professor and Spectator
Lin joins Delta of Fate tests as a spectator under his lecturer account. He advises players on resource allocation, NPC behavior, magecraft, relics, and tactical decisions while avoiding direct violations of the game’s rules. 57 58 68 101
Medusa Test and Petrification
Using his Predictive Magic Eye, Lin helps Iori and Kohei fight Medusa by calculating her movements and directing their attacks. He is later petrified by Medusa’s Mystic Eyes, forcing the other players to attempt a complex magecraft-based rescue before the test ends. 116 117 119 124 137
Exchange with God and Game Updates
After the closed beta, Lin meets God in Fuyuki City. Their discussion contrasts God’s world-first creation method with Lin’s human-centered design philosophy. Lin subsequently digests the knowledge gained from God and updates Delta of Fate with new systems and rules. 136 139
Pursuit of the Ultimate Proposition
Lin considers an Ultimate Proposition concerning his own identity and the danger of becoming “God Lin Zhen” rather than remaining himself. Kazuma’s advice leads him to delay a final answer and experience life before seeking proof. 147
Notable Quotes

Trivia
- Lin’s workshop defenses use Chinese characters from his original world as a core element, making their logic inaccessible to outsiders. 1
- He created Su Ling partly to protect his privacy while operating Dao Tian Palace in public. 3 8
- Lin’s childhood cup was originally an overpriced souvenir Kischur was tricked into buying for him. 55
- Although he is already effectively invincible, Lin regards omniscience—not merely immunity to harm—as the requirement for true omnipotence. 1
